    I've seen a lot of comments hating on this book. Playing with this degree of musicality, a book that complements the front ensemble, and is piss clean is superior to a line just ramming notes. It's not a competition to see who can play the most notes the fastest, especially if it impacts the quality and cleanliness of the sound. This was a well deserved win for the Cavies.

      I like that they're bringing more of the old DCI back instead of straight WGI on the field

      Putting it that way reminds me of Cadets 88; high perc performance score at Finals with a 14.9 and a very musically subtle book.

    This is like reincarnating the early 2000’s line to play again, with a modern clean focus, on modern equipment. Such a fabulous breath of fresh air.

      Man, i feel what you're saying. But damn. They might even be cleaner than the 2000 line. Vid quality from then makes it hard to tell, though. The writing, however, feels like some throwback to the 80s, to me. Either way, not a criticism from me. Those Kuhn books are mind bending, even by today's standards. This writing feels very meat and potatoes, and I love it. So musical.

    People do not realize how difficult this book actually is with the musicality and amount of open space. Piss clean. Great writing. Glad judges can hear a difference between books that just sound like noise and ones like this that serve a musical purpose.

    • @marklower007
      @marklower007 10 місяців тому +5

      It's really not. Compare this book to Boston's book it's not even in the same league. You are correct it is difficult to play things with odd spacing etc but this isn't that. This is lots of space with easy notes. Drum break is nice but eighty percent of the book is easier than most top five lines excersise routine

    • @tigbittiesmcgee3284
      @tigbittiesmcgee3284 10 місяців тому +1

      No body gives a shit about how hard the book if it just sounds like noise and is not musical. There is a reason they do not win. It is not clean on the move and does not add to the show. Its difficult just to be difficult, without a musical purpose. Judges know better. Hence why SCV smokes them every year. @@marklower007

      I've been saying this for years. I'm tired of books that are cluttered with notes and have no sense of groove or direction. White noise chops rams. This book was tasty and had beef, groove, and impacts in all the right spots. Spot-on, Cavies and congratulations!

    All those double stops at the end, and how mfn clean/blended they are, is why they got that trophy. Seriously difficult stuff in this book in all subs, but that last 15 seconds of nothing but double stops (with accent taps, zone changes, shots, etc.) is ridiculous. Props to everyone involved with Cavies Percussion this year. Well deserved.

    The age old debate on a piss clean easy book vs some gray areas on a significantly harder book. The debate was really settled in the late 90s when judges awarded high drums over and over to lines with less density of notes and better clarity. Cannot be surprised to see the cavies win with this strategy. All in all, every line in the top 3-4 was great in their own right.

    DCI established long ago that an easier book that’s really clean will out score a hard book that’s pretty much clean. Cavs were definitely the cleanest line this year so congrats to them. I prefer Boston, BD and Bloo over Cavs any day but they have to do their thing better than the other group does theirs. Didn’t happen this year. Cavs deserved the trophy.

    • @WeMissDimebag
      @WeMissDimebag 10 місяців тому

      See my issue here is what the hell is the point of having separate scores for content and achievement if a book that is clearly less difficult than a couple others is going to win straight 1sts in content?
      Why is the distinction there if it’s not going to be represented in scores?
      And don’t get me wrong, I’m super happy they won, it’s incredible, I love that they got credit for it despite their overall placement, I wish that happened more often. But I’ve also had several people who are more qualified than me say similar things, that this book is not particularly difficult.
      So either they’re wrong, the judges were wrong, or the scoring system is broken, I don’t know.
