Tiffany said "Essential" collection, she probably meant the ongoing "Epic Collection" stuff (which I love and think is a great way to collect any fave Marvel-thing between 60's-late 90's) If wrong no bother 😀
Sal is my favorite host of any “show” on UA-cam, but Tiffany thankfully is just as entertaining and extremely knowledgeable about the content. Her enthusiasm for the material is also insanely high.
The only version of Shamballa I know is the one from Uncharted 2… so this will be interesting. EDIT- 27:06: What Tiff said right there, that was a plot-point in Uncharted 2. During WWII, the Nazis attempted to find Shambhala looking for the Cintamani Stone, a mystical amber deposit that produced a liquid resin that would give people healing powers and super strength. But they failed. Many years later… Nathan Drake stops another madman and his army from using the power of Shambhala to take over the world. Awesome game.
I love the discussion at the end. Theorizing what the journey Strange was one actually means, whether it's literal or a personal spiritual journey, and the idea of trusting in oneself as opposed to relying on predecessors and authority figures. It's definitely a story that makes you think.
I’m surprised y’all haven’t talked about this one already, considering Tiffany's very outspoken love for this book lol. Still tho, nice to see her host another ep!
We were battling the algorithm for so long that it felt like it would be swallowed up. But post MCU Strange and being able to tie it into the Essentials volume...it just seemed like the right time!
@@RobotDecoy2 Kevin Feige was actually at a comic shop and almost picked up a copy but a be-hatted, stylish redhead ripped it from his hands. She whispered "I must have two", bought it, and left.
What a magical episode! I love when Tiff covers Doctor Strange. Her passion for the character lead me to read some really great stories about him. I can’t wait to read this one too.
Ok, I'm still watching at this moment, but when Tiff mentioned Kali Yuga and the new age for mankind, it reminded me of something else with Dr Strange, also written by DeMatteis. In "Tales of the Marvel Universe" published right after Onslaught, Doc reflects that the current events signal maybe the coming of that age prophesized in the graphic novel. Check it out! Besides that, there are other neat one shot stories in there.
Tiffany I’ve been hoping and praying to the Vishanti that you would cover more Doctor Strange, let alone INTO SHAMBALLA!!! Thank you for being the cherry on top to Deadpool and Wolverine week!!!
50:18 For those curious about the Ophalos, it was supposedly at Delphi. There was a big stone there that they believed Zeus personally placed there to make the place as sacred. Dephi is, famously, the site where the Pythia, Apollo's sacred Oracle, also delivered her prophecies. As for the church on it, there's a common theme of (especially early) Christian churches being built on the sites of ancient religious signifiance. Often they would appropriate existing Greco-Roman temples, but beyond that they'd go to places considered "sacred," often because of augury (that is, analysis of the flight patterns of birds). Since bird behavior is often influenced by the earth's magnetic field, there's an interesting parallel between supposed points of leyline confluence and points of irregularity in the field lines of the magnetic field.
Hi there from Brazil! Panini, the italian company, is the distributer of Marvel here in Brazil as well, so I have a hardcover of Shamballa, and I also bought a treasure edition they released here for my brother in law who's american. The treasure ed is huge and beautiful, I looked for it for a while in USA and then came to the conclusion you guys just don't have it.
This was amazing! I read the word apotheosis first in a Dan Brown novel. Perfect introductory explanation of all the Hindu myths/philosophy. This truly was a perfect Doctor Strange book and I am glad you did this.
You recommended this in a previous episode long ago, I picked it up immediately for a pretty killer deal. SO excited to see you now doing an ep. on what's become one of my all-time favorites! Thanks CP!
Ran into a vertigo book from JMD "Mercy" and this is just his bag. Damn ! I truly enjoy this man's art. That input from JMD was awesome thank you for the hard work to include that. ❤
I feel it's time for Tiffany to have her own back issues show in the comic pop universe at this point like bat issues but with magic comics as a whole not just dc or marvel. I love her takes on magic/fantasy comics in general. Call it Magic-Pop.
I love that Tiffany’s description of how unique this story is assembled and made, an “illustrated story” is just a Light Novel. Don’t get me wrong, this is indeed unique and special for western media, but it is essentially just a light novel.
Great video! And Tiffany’s back! 🎉 I love the art in the graphic novel, btw. I never would have made the connection between this art style and that of treasure planet. I always learn something new with these vids!
Some of the Marvel Graphic Novels are on Unlimited, but they have apparently have a rule that they don't scan books for digital releases until they're reprinted physically. Pretty lame, I know.
I really like the password scene let me explain why in a too long coment. Shamballa is all the things Tiff said plus the name of a #3 hit song based on the term by the band Three Dog Night but, originally recorded by B.W. Stevenson. It is the exact scenario Strange bashed the surgeon on in the opening. "Having him ask what is this?" Reflects that he does not know everything which we just saw with the Ancient One scene. Or at least that's what I thought not knowing it was the name of one of Doc's premire stories, now that is probally an unintentional coincedence.
I think it would be fun if Tiffany hosted and Sal is in either spot of Ben or Ethan. Don't know if that has happened before but I think it would be cool
In France they only do hardcovers actually (for the most part). Still a lot of the hardcovers themselves are not very aesthetic at all compared to American collected editions
Pre-Order the Marvel Masterworks including Into Shamballa! amzn.to/4d1kPnJ

I first learned what apotheosis meant as a kid, reading 'The Gunslinger' by Stephen King.
I have NEVER known how to pronounce it.
Thank you😂.
"Making the mother of all omelettes here, Stephen. Can't fret over every egg!"
"My source is that I made it the fuck up!" That's all I can think of becuase I can't remember anything other than Nanomachines son😂😂
"Don't fuck with this senator!"

That single page of Strange saying “Yes” is so powerful it convinced me in wanting to pick this up
Love when Tiffany hosts because it will almost ALWAYS be a really thoughtful and artistic comic
In Italy Jean Marc DeMatteis is very respected, especially for his Spider-Man run.
Hooray it’s been a while since Tiff was hosting, always glad to have her!
Should have known that Tiff would host this episode as soon as I read “Dr Strange” in the title.

Hell yes! A Tiff episode! My first one that I've actually been able to see isn't an old one. I'm glad to see it's my favorite hero, too.
Ethan got fn deep man. Damn...
Doc splitting himself into 12 to be with more women is the most bro moment I've seen in Marvel. It's perfect for the MCU and they would NEVER do it.
They totally would/ will as soon as they read this reprint.
