Left hand finger weight is a revelation! I’ve been playing almost a year now and intonation is driving me crazy. I’ve played piano for many many years and not being able to get the pitch I expect from the violin is frustrating. I’ll keep working on it! Thank you!
Forcing myself to play without the thumb touching the violin neck has done wonders. It sounds awfully bad for the l longest but it can transform your playing and sound. Tension in either hand are tone killers
Only one question, do you know what means to play in tune? Maybe one more, if you have 4 notes GDAE with fixed places, how do you think about other notes? Fixed or variable places??? And to finish, how you decide which temperament to use if you tune your violin with perfect just fifths?!
Thank you so much for your videos!! I have small hands... short fingers... and thus, it makes my span reach very difficult. I am an older adult (57yrs old) just beginning the violin... any direction you can give me for practice in strength building of my left hand with correct intonation is much appreciated! Blessings !

Thank you Eric. I am a relatively new violin player and I constantly have to work on my intonation. I really do appreciate all of your valuable videos that you put out. You are a great communicator of helpful information. Why tune in 441? This is the first time I have ever heard anyone tune in this frequency. Do orchestras where you live tune in 441 including the pianos?
I don't see you posting any videos on intonation to provide valuable advice. You do not raise yourself by stepping on others who are trying to help beginners. Prove me wrong.
Thanks for watching! What intonation problems do you face in the practice room?

Thank you, Eric, I'm struggling a lot with my hold, maybe it will make the Franco-Belgium hold easier!
You can do it! Best of luck. 🙌🏻

Boston Symphony tunes to 441, it’s pretty common in this region but once you leave New England it’s either 440 or 442.
I’m glad you find the information useful! :-)
My issue is different. When tuning the G string, it never sounds in tune. The sound always goes up a quarter tone at the end. 😐
Why does the clip have 10min if its a 60sec trick?
Why 441?
That being said, A 440 is arbitrary and there are those who insist that A 432 is "sweeter"
Boston Symphony plays in 441 and mostly everyone in that area plays in 441
@@erictheviolinistThen??? Is it a valuable reference or you give a wrong exemple?!
I tune mine to 440hz.
sorry bad this advice is gererally wrong...

Well it's one thing saying if one video is helpful or not and another if you want to make a video of your own. I do teach...
