I think FSD in some form is unavoidable. Once it’s mature and out long enough to have multiple safety studies done, when regulators see how safe it is compared to human drivers I think it will become mandatory, at least on city streets and highways.
You could show people 30 years ago a microSD card and say it has 150 times more storage (1,500gb) despite being as small as a SIM card compared to their state of the art hard drive in the 90's (1gb) thats the size of a CD player.

It's doing so well lately. Me too! Just drove from Orlando to Fort Myers for the umpteenth time. Only difference is that I relaxed on the drive because the latest .3 version drove for me. Proves robotaxi is only a matter of time and not too far away either.
The passing behavior around people trying to parallel park is a bit sketchy. When you are parallel parking manually, you tend to focus your attention to the car in front and the curbside and may not notice if someone is trying to go around you that close. FSD needs to stop earlier and give people more room to maneuver. If it's safe to pass, FSD needs to give lots of extra room when going around so it doesn't potentially clip the other car's front/left corner if they happen to turn quickly. On a related note, I still find FSD cuts the turn-in too tight when passing parked cars when it doesn't need to.
Just test drove a Model 3 with FSD(supervised) for the first time today. It was only half an hour, but I was impressed. BTW there doesn't seem to be a note of the version you were using for this drive in the title or description. Thanks for continuing to show us your experiences with this!
I’m STILL stuck on v12.3.6! I really hope I get the update soon. I’ve been using FSD for every drive > 5 minutes/2 miles and I’d really love to get some updates.
Me too. I just took a 3,000 mile trip and used it --mostly on the interstates, but also through a congested and complicated part in NYC to navigate across the G. Washington bridge and through a bunch of traffic circles. It did pretty well, but not perfect. The navigation needs to improve b/c at a couple of junctures it put me on the wrong path and had to reroute my trip. But it definitely did help to have. Wish they'd push the update out.
This is based on the Initial D anime series where the main character’s father has a Tofu delivery business. He makes Takumi drive with a cup of water up the mountains of Japan to prevent damaging the tofu en route. It turns out this was an excuse to train his son to become the best drift racer ever.
I use my self driving system to work every morning to work and home. 15-20 min drive taking the streets each way. Game changer no doubt! Just put a lid on your coffee haha
hey, would you think its a good idea if above "Attention Monitoring Active" It did a green tint color, much like the blue color for put hands on the wheel. That way we get a nice easy visual cue, when attention is working?
Assuming Tesla adjusts navigation on FSD (blacklists problematic areas and intersections, do not enter etc) - do you think it's ready for unsupervised/robotaxi? I think it's VERY close if not already there (based on my own drives too)🥳
"No turn on red" not always working right. Also try bus lanes when the car has to cross it for its next turn. Mine just tried to travel in that lane for way over .5 mile. We need to test more difficult scenarios and show where we need improvements. Personally, I could not care less about how smooth it is as long as it doesnt make big mistakes.
😎🤙 What a great drive! Was funny when you were waiting for the Black SUV chatting away. It was one of those moments where you go 'If this was a Limo would I care?'.
Love your channel and all the examples of FSD. However, I have a model Y and I have FSD and this morning I was driving and it was around 5 o’clock in the morning, so it was dark and FSD did not work at all for me. But after I had stopped off someplace, and it was daylight outside , then FSD worked fine. So I think it’s a thing about not being able to see in the dark.
PLEASE fix the speed control. 12.5.x is almost perfect EXCEPT for having to adjust the speed back up every 30 sec to keep from causing traffic disruption. At least fix when we turn off Auto Max, let it go back to follow our manual speed setting AND HOLD IT. Thx
Entertaining with the cups, but in reality, anyone who thinks an open cup is a safe and relaxing way to have coffee is living on the edge. lol. I have had coffee in regular ceramic coffee cups when rushed leaving in the morning, but likewise, my expectations for not spilling are low, and so my cup would hover over the center console to avoid spilling on me. I saw some pretty good stops and acceleration for FSD with the cups, so that's valuable info.
I would like to see FSD use as much of the road as possible when passing cyclists - it’s still too close for (my) comfort. I go into the oncoming lane if there are no cars coming to give a wide berth.
I have not been driving for the last two weeks! Close to 1000 miles perfect FSD keeps getting better! OK there’s a little glitches. It’s still unable to see merging Chevron’s lines at intersections a drive ride on it every single time it looks like there’s two lane of turning left, but in reality it’s only one that is the only issue that I have experience! Other than driving under the speed limit, kind of annoying
4:30 hope you complained with the city about the bumps ;D "I spilled my coffee, which I had in a cup without a lid" is surely convincing them to fix it.
Why is the Y axis on the stats graph capped at 50 miles? The bars for 12.3 and especially 12.5 would be much higher if the Y axis showed allowed us to see their full height. Great video as always!
I think we need a fair baseline for comparison with the cup. So I would argue you need to drive the car while your wife is in the passenger seat with the cup. Then we can see who spills more on the same route: you or FSD!
These latest versions are very good but for me, 12.5.1.3 is a bit of a regression. It seems to pull out right in front of traffic going 60 MPH while old versions would wait. And the speed control is getting worse, not better. I've tried auto offset and manual and have positive offsets set and it almost always goes under the speed limit. Press the accelerator to get it a few MPH above the speed limit and it'll decay over several minutes to eventually go under the limit again. I expect it to honor my settings... but it isn't. So I'm always intervening with the accelerator.
13:24 Same road you were on earlier, but opposite direction. Tesla detects 30 mph going this way? But 25 mph the other way? Regardless, it is way too fast with all these houses nearby.
I can't wait until FSD will navigate me to my destination and go find a parking spot on its own vice stopping close to the destination like it likes to do at times

Yeah - I don't see what holding a cup of water is supposed to prove. The road bumps are spilling more than FSD turns & stops.
