I really love everything they are doing with Tifa in the new games. Sephiroth is truly threatened by her because he knows she's the only one who can save Cloud and break his hold over him.
That being said, I feel Sephiroth could have killed her but he missed deliberately. I suppose at this point he needs Cloud and the others to retrieve the Black Materia so he can't kill them too early.
I have feeling sepirtoh is trying to guide them to something (new final boss) who can destroy not only world but timeline and sepiroth will on our side at the end
I'm glad sephiroth is finally seeing Tifa as the threat she is regarding his control of Cloud. He completely overlooked her in the og, the very key to helping restore Cloud's identity, allowing him to break free from Sephiroth's hold and defeat him.
Yeah, Tifa was who helped Cloud to retrieves his true memories, making that this put an end to the control of Sephiroth on him. Thus making Tifa the real reason to that Cloud could become a true threat for Sephiroth.

So we're just glossing over the fact in the remake timeline Cloud knows who he is already and has remembered Zack? The one main pillar of Tifa and Clouds connection removed just like that. Sephiroth is controlling cloud through the Jenova cells in his body. Nothing to do with his identity.
Tifa has always been the biggest threat when it comes to sephiroth's grip on Cloud, Tifa is the one who frees Cloud and helps him rebuild himself. Without her, Cloud goes off the deep end, with her he defeats sephiroth.
And for that, Sephiroth is causing a notable discord between them, because even if Cloud won't manage to kill Tifa, this incidents will certainly causes a notable strain in their relationship, leading to that Tifa become afraid from Cloud, and Cloud start to be distrusting from Tifa, avoiding that she can help Cloud to regains his true memories, thus securing his victory.
That’s why her firstname is “Lockheart”. In the original game, she was the only one who knew who Cloud really was as a person and what happened to their homeland’s destruction, but she never told him the truth out of concern of what would happen to his already fragile mind, so she kept it locked in her heart.
I love how much more character tifa is giving in the remake trilogy. Especially since sephiroth is now realizing how much of a threat she is and clouds true feelings for her
And the planet... Also knows how important she is. There is a reason the weapon took her here and showed her these lost memories and why the white whispers protected her- to restore her faith in Cloud after he attacked her.
I like how you mentioned the whispers "restoring her faith in Cloud." When I first played through this, I wondered why Tifa is so forgiving of Cloud. Rewatching it makes it very clear Tifa knows Sephiroth is trying to "take" Cloud and that Cloud has always been there for her when he's in his right mind.@@OldManSakaki
Can we please talk about the music in this sequence? It is amazing. This melancholic arrangement of Tifa's theme mixed to the Lifestream theme (?) is so ethereal. I felt like I was floating there being Tifa. At some points, it starts sounding a bit like Interrupted by fireworks, another dreamy masterpiece that had a perfect arrangement in Rebirth
It is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! Everything about this scene is haunting me, the floating memories, the green hues of the lifestream, the organ sound of the Lifestream theme mixed with Tifa’s. Ethereal is the best word to describe it. It’s so, so good!
I went through this sequence for the first time last night and I was blown away by the music and atmosphere. It’s a masterpiece of interactive storytelling.
Anyone noticed the way cloud attacks tifa is the same way Sephiroth does back on Mt Nibel. The same cut on the same location on her body and she even falls the same. A true mirror of Sephiroth.
You know it hadn’t occurred to me until seeing the emphasis put on how Jenova could appear as anyone in the remake, but I bet those stories about how dead people appeared on Mount Nibel were people seeing Jenova’s illusions. The story Tifa was following to try to find her mother’s soul was meant to warn the villagers not to go near the reactor where Jenova was being stored because she would try to manipulate them.
At this point I'll be a little disappointed if we don't see Jenova in more fully fuckery glory, even if its of a limited extent on 'main world' or in full extent in 'another world'.

@@FateTearsStudios I don't super care if Sephiroth is the final boss, but I'd appreciate if enough bigger stuff is happening right off the most main plot that we could let other things shine. Especially if (and its a pretty big if) the devs intend on trying to continue this sub-series in the 2030s. We do have to move past Sephiroth, so investing in a few other stories to feel strong enough on their own. Part of that is very Gaia centric things, but it could also mean things about Jenova that aren't so entirely tied with Seph. We'll have a Jenova boss anyway, but it'd be cool if its not as throwaway but very strong in story on its own.
JENOVA, in its practical functions, is like the X-parasite from Metroid but if it was both Sentient and Malevolent. This horrifies the holy shite out of me.

I mean *come the fuck on* I don't care what people try to say by this point, TIFA AND CLOUD ARE MEANT FOR EACH OTHER. Even Sephiroth knows this and understands that Tifa has to be killed, even before Aerith. They are meant for each other and I hope that in the conclusion, it ends with them actually being a proper couple and starting a family proper, not just what we saw in Advent Children
The point of this seqeunce wasn't even romance dude, it was abt playing with Cloud's mind, basically how easy it is for Sephiroth to influence him. Also Sephiroth didn't kill her while he could, so living her alive doesn't seem to bother him that much, compared to letting Aerith alive, who's someone one directly interfer with his plans
The way Cloud called out her name (first when he saw her in danger and second after he realized what he did) shows just how much he cares for her. I just got to this part of the game and I liked this scene because most of the game Cloud is so aloof and here we see him really let out his desperation and emotions
At first, I never thought I would literally tear up on these scene, but the moment she went search for her dead mom and then her dead dad appeared to courahe her got me so bad 😢
I will say, seeing Sephiroth fully in the life stream and taking out the Weapon in 2 shots was amazing. They really went all out and made it as cinematic as possible along with the choreography. Genuinely went, “OH SHIT,” when Tifa barely dodged the blade.
Sephiroth is up there with my fave villains of all time. Hooowever, he didn't ¨take out¨ the Weapon, he managed to hurt it, yes but after that it just went by with its business. He ain't pull that W on this one.(aside from looking badass ofcourse.) In fact, the scene goes out of its way to tell us this is one Sephiroth struggles with.

Zack gave the order for Cloud to finish off Sephiroth. Genesis, Angeal, all of the characters from Ever Crisis never did it. But he did...and only 3 people saw that happened. The others who work on testimony wouldn't believe it especially Hojo who even saw Cloud as a failed experiment. Heck, Hojo doesn't even acknowledge sephiroth defeat by Cloud if it was ever stated and believed Zack did it since he was the same class as Sephiroth. To the upper brass, they believe Zack killed sephiroth and wanted him dead at all cost while believing Cloud to just be the assist. Among the 3 people remaining, Zack is dead. Sephiroth is an eternal malevolent being who will never forget this. ...and we have Cloud who was experimented and last memories active prior to coma was everyone dead as he lay dying from fighting sephiroth.
Gongaga has the best storytelling of any FF game. That was an insane ride from the start of the reactor sequence with the boys all the way to the Tifa scene in the village.
I haven’t beaten the game yet, and actually just got to Cosmo Canyon so take what I say next with a grain of salt: the Weapons here look like larval forms in comparison to how unique each one was in the OG. What shocked me most about this was that it actually took Sephiroth TWO hits to injure this one. Literally everything else he has come across his sword just slides through. But this time his sword got stuck in the Weapon. He had to use more effort just to injure it. So either Sephiroth is getting weaker, or these Weapons are far stronger
Is it me or does the weapon that brings Tifa back looks a lot like Sin from FFX. I also know FF7 and FF10 take place in the same universe (different times/planet which is confirmed by Nomura in an interview). There’s no way it can’t be a coincidence for the appearance of weapon looking similar to Sin.
Probably few ppl have really understood what happened here....There are TWO Sephiroth...the one controlled by Jenova,and an other one,the one beyond Advent Children,from the future...And this one is the one who act inside the pool of mako.The weapons don't save Tifa,Tifa could save by herself,swimming...The weapons make her do a travel to regain some important memories...but then,the black whispers attack them and slow this teavel...at this point,Tifa is in danger,because she's going to have a deadly intoxication from mako,and the black whispers can steal her previous memories..And in this situation,the Sephiroth beyond Advent Children spawns..He"s a lot different..human,under pressure,concerned..look closely at him.He helps the weapon to get rid of the black whispers inside it,cutting its skin,then force the weapon to emerge and release Tifa...in this way saves Tifa and her memories.Indeed,later Tifa will uses such memories to help Cloud and make him feel once more whole and worthy

The first Sephiroth is an illusion created with Jenova pieces, and the second one is the real body; the one who Cloud chucked into the reactor´s core in Nibelheim and is now masterminding the whole plot from the lifestream. But let´s face it: in true Nomura´s fashion, the only one who knows for sure what´s happening it´s him.

i dont understand why poeple disagree with cloud and tifa being lovers even the fact that the game creator confirmed that they are. its pretty obvious too. Its too soon. The next game is going to be insane because Cloud is going to have a mental breakdown and give the Black Materia to Sephrioth. Its too soon to see him lose it just yet. I'm looking forward to seeing the party lose Cloud then travelling around the world to find him, which will be the act 1 of the next game.

No. Earlier, I think you can see the new weapon, eating or getting rid of the black whispers, which represent the corrupted force Sephiroth is commanding. When he cuts open the creature, the black whispers are freed and swarm around him. My guess is that he’s currently in a stalemate between the planets, white whispers, and his own black whispers.

Not sure. I think the white ones are on our party's side and the black ones are on Sephiroph's side though. So theoretically weapon wasn't trying to hurt her (she only starts drowning once Sephiroph pierces the orb and lifestream is leaking in). Weapon brings her back to the surface immediately after so it seems like it was trying to help. Confusing, though.

These are not the same Weapons you see come out of the Northern Crater, these Weapons we see here are more likely in their larval states. The ones we see like Ultimate, Ruby, Emerald etc, those are adult Weapons, those who gained individual aspects while growing up.
Sigh... Cloud NEVER made any threatening move on tifa in the original save maybe the train station scene in that one flashback. This isnt quite luke skywalker over ben solos bed out of character, but in the ballpark.
However, it's Sephiroth's manipulation, so not technically Cloud being "in character"... Aside from the fact that Sephiroth being able to manipulate Cloud is part of his character at this point.

I think they are gona set it up so that cloud gets with tifa in the end. The original timeline cloud pines over aerith even in advent children and that only makes him more depressed. Aerith says it herself in rebirth that there’s liking someone and then there’s LIKING liking someone. He will still like aerith but LIKE like tifa.

If he gives his blessing like he did at the end of part 2 he'll be the catalyst for when Aerith rejoins the party. Zack's the perfect bro for this. He'll give Cloud the confidence he's been so lacking in. Besides, he has Cissnei waiting for him. All of this buildup in both part 1 and 2. All of the dates and romantic implications for Cloud to 180 and run to Tifa is a little strange to me but will be a choice for players. But honestly, watch Aerith's body language. She struggles to get her words out, plays with her fingers, looks down... She's a nervous wreck which is unusual for her. She's definitely telling Cloud she loves him but she doesn't have the time or composure so she shuts up and holds him tightly instead. That's the thing about Cloud and Aerith, 80% of it us body language.

one of the best cut scenes in the game. it was a perfect set up for the Cloud and Tifa lifestream event later on. Now we know how she guided him
You know it hadn’t occurred to me until seeing the emphasis put on how Jenova could appear as anyone in the remake, but I bet those stories about how dead people appeared on Mount Nibel were people seeing Jenova’s illusions. The story Tifa was following to try to find her mother’s soul was meant to warn the villagers not to go near the reactor where Jenova was being stored because she would try to manipulate them.
At this point I'll be a little disappointed if we don't see Jenova in more fully fuckery glory, even if its of a limited extent on 'main world' or in full extent in 'another world'.

@@FateTearsStudios I don't super care if Sephiroth is the final boss, but I'd appreciate if enough bigger stuff is happening right off the most main plot that we could let other things shine. Especially if (and its a pretty big if) the devs intend on trying to continue this sub-series in the 2030s. We do have to move past Sephiroth, so investing in a few other stories to feel strong enough on their own. Part of that is very Gaia centric things, but it could also mean things about Jenova that aren't so entirely tied with Seph.
We'll have a Jenova boss anyway, but it'd be cool if its not as throwaway but very strong in story on its own.
JENOVA, in its practical functions, is like the X-parasite from Metroid but if it was both Sentient and Malevolent.

Absolutely. Gongaga is easily the best chapter in the game just purely based on these Cloud and Tifa moments near the end. Unbelievable storytelling.
This chapter Is the Key to understand many things as well as the direction the game Is taking,and must be handled carefully Because there's a lot more than we can immediately catch....And about the final boss,it's not Just a case that the devs are already spending all the bosses we used to confront in the final stages of the OG....Is quite clear that the ending boss Will be a totally new one

The point of this seqeunce wasn't even romance dude, it was abt playing with Cloud's mind, basically how easy it is for Sephiroth to influence him. Also Sephiroth didn't kill her while he could, so living her alive doesn't seem to bother him that much, compared to letting Aerith alive, who's someone one directly interfer with his plans

I just got to this part of the game and I liked this scene because most of the game Cloud is so aloof and here we see him really let out his desperation and emotions

I will say, seeing Sephiroth fully in the life stream and taking out the Weapon in 2 shots was amazing.
They really went all out and made it as cinematic as possible along with the choreography. Genuinely went, “OH SHIT,” when Tifa barely dodged the blade.
Sephiroth is up there with my fave villains of all time. Hooowever, he didn't ¨take out¨ the Weapon, he managed to hurt it, yes but after that it just went by with its business. He ain't pull that W on this one.(aside from looking badass ofcourse.) In fact, the scene goes out of its way to tell us this is one Sephiroth struggles with.

Genesis, Angeal, all of the characters from Ever Crisis never did it.
But he did...and only 3 people saw that happened. The others who work on testimony wouldn't believe it especially Hojo who even saw Cloud as a failed experiment. Heck, Hojo doesn't even acknowledge sephiroth defeat by Cloud if it was ever stated and believed Zack did it since he was the same class as Sephiroth.
To the upper brass, they believe Zack killed sephiroth and wanted him dead at all cost while believing Cloud to just be the assist.
Among the 3 people remaining, Zack is dead. Sephiroth is an eternal malevolent being who will never forget this.
...and we have Cloud who was experimented and last memories active prior to coma was everyone dead as he lay dying from fighting sephiroth.

Gongaga has the best storytelling of any FF game. That was an insane ride from the start of the reactor sequence with the boys all the way to the Tifa scene in the village.

I haven’t beaten the game yet, and actually just got to Cosmo Canyon so take what I say next with a grain of salt: the Weapons here look like larval forms in comparison to how unique each one was in the OG. What shocked me most about this was that it actually took Sephiroth TWO hits to injure this one. Literally everything else he has come across his sword just slides through. But this time his sword got stuck in the Weapon. He had to use more effort just to injure it. So either Sephiroth is getting weaker, or these Weapons are far stronger

I also know FF7 and FF10 take place in the same universe (different times/planet which is confirmed by Nomura in an interview). There’s no way it can’t be a coincidence for the appearance of weapon looking similar to Sin.
Probably few ppl have really understood what happened here....There are TWO Sephiroth...the one controlled by Jenova,and an other one,the one beyond Advent Children,from the future...And this one is the one who act inside the pool of mako.The weapons don't save Tifa,Tifa could save by herself,swimming...The weapons make her do a travel to regain some important memories...but then,the black whispers attack them and slow this teavel...at this point,Tifa is in danger,because she's going to have a deadly intoxication from mako,and the black whispers can steal her previous memories..And in this situation,the Sephiroth beyond Advent Children spawns..He"s a lot different..human,under pressure,concerned..look closely at him.He helps the weapon to get rid of the black whispers inside it,cutting its skin,then force the weapon to emerge and release Tifa...in this way saves Tifa and her memories.Indeed,later Tifa will uses such memories to help Cloud and make him feel once more whole and worthy

Not likely. It´s probably just like in the original game. The first Sephiroth is an illusion created with Jenova pieces, and the second one is the real body; the one who Cloud chucked into the reactor´s core in Nibelheim and is now masterminding the whole plot from the lifestream.
But let´s face it: in true Nomura´s fashion, the only one who knows for sure what´s happening it´s him.

i dont understand why poeple disagree with cloud and tifa being lovers even the fact that the game creator confirmed that they are. its pretty obvious too. No. Earlier, I think you can see the new weapon, eating or getting rid of the black whispers, which represent the corrupted force Sephiroth is commanding. When he cuts open the creature, the black whispers are freed and swarm around him.
My guess is that he’s currently in a stalemate between the planets, white whispers, and his own black whispers.

Not sure. I think the white ones are on our party's side and the black ones are on Sephiroph's side though. So theoretically weapon wasn't trying to hurt her (she only starts drowning once Sephiroph pierces the orb and lifestream is leaking in). Weapon brings her back to the surface immediately after so it seems like it was trying to help.

Well Sephiroth does talk to her so he did know that she was in the lifestream. As much as she was needed to save Cloud, Sephiroth couldn't break him without her. Without Tifa, Cloud won't believe the truth.@@Charliestrife01

He only leaves because he thinks the lifestream will drown her. The Weapons and white whispers protect Tifa and take her to her forgotten memories to restore her faith in Cloud after he attacked her.

These are not the same Weapons you see come out of the Northern Crater, these Weapons we see here are more likely in their larval states. The ones we see like Ultimate, Ruby, Emerald etc, those are adult Weapons, those who gained individual aspects while growing up.
Sigh... Cloud NEVER made any threatening move on tifa in the original save maybe the train station scene in that one flashback. This isnt quite luke skywalker over ben solos bed out of character, but in the ballpark.
However, it's Sephiroth's manipulation, so not technically Cloud being "in character"... Aside from the fact that Sephiroth being able to manipulate Cloud is part of his character at this point.

I think they are gona set it up so that cloud gets with tifa in the end. The original timeline cloud pines over aerith even in advent children and that only makes him more depressed. I’ll bet they will change it so in part 3 cloud and tifa are a couple and while he still likes aerith tifa will be his true love.
Aerith says it herself in rebirth that there’s liking someone and then there’s LIKING liking someone. He will still like aerith but LIKE like tifa.

All of this buildup in both part 1 and 2. All of the dates and romantic implications for Cloud to 180 and run to Tifa is a little strange to me but will be a choice for players.
But honestly, watch Aerith's body language. She struggles to get her words out, plays with her fingers, looks down... She's a nervous wreck which is unusual for her. She's definitely telling Cloud she loves him but she doesn't have the time or composure so she shuts up and holds him tightly instead. That's the thing about Cloud and Aerith, 80% of it us body language.
