Can you imagine facing, what the rookie officer probably only heard about in his training as a possible worse case scenario, on his fourth day as an officer. Didn't flinch once. @@joannsmith3589 that's just plain ignorant. When you serve on the frontline, you don't get to choose when the action comes to you. You don't hold back new troopers or cops because they are new. As a combat veteran and security contractor, there is nothing in the world that will prepare you for your first firefight. I went to Iraq right out of OSUT and was thrown into the Battle for Ramadi. My third day in sector we got blown up and engaged in a firefight by AQI.
Also, pay attention. He did help the situation. His presence diverted fire, allowing the other officer the chance to take the kill shot. It's sad that he paid a heavy price for that, but that was the role that he took on. Had he not been there, the shooter may have retreated into the building to kill more innocent people, or may have had the chance to kill the other officer. Don't trivialize this young man's sacrifice with ignorance.

The person who uses a gun to kill an innocent person has mental problems and society is ignoring it. Mental problems are sometimes not easy to spot because those close to them hate to talk about it to medical personnel because it is a stigma or a sign of shame on the family. @truth advocacy a person who has mental issues as an adult can stop taking medication or treatment at any time they have the power to do. These individuals are sometimes very smart and can easily deceive or evade those around them when cornered and questioned about their treatment unless someone is with them 24/7 keeping tabs making sure they are taking their medicine . That is the reason behind so many are waking around in communities capable of snapping at any time without warning.

I am hoping with him being very educated that he must have been talking about phycological help. This guy got his gun legally through a licensed FFL and he passed the background check so universal background checks would have done nothing nor Biden's safe storage. "Doing nothing isn't working"? There are plenty of laws on the books already and none of these murderers have followed any of them! Notice how this is yet another shooting at a place where people are not allowed to take firearms? Ever wonder why these mass shootings don't happen at gun ranges where AR-15s and even more dangerous rifles are plentiful?
Disarming honest people costs lives by creating buildings full of defenseless people! These heroic officers ended the threat quickly all things considered, but it was still 9 minutes that those people had no means of defending themselves against this monster!

The gun isn't the problem, its mental health. Honestly a company should invest in giving terminated employees a mental health check free of charge. Thats the only thing I can think of that may help stop this crap some. Taking everybody's guns away isn't the answer, the bad people will still keep theirs thats why they are called criminals. The massive wave of violent crime that would sweep this nation if the populace is disarmed would be staggering but the government doesn't want people to know that or think about that possible outcome.

I'm not from US, but in most parts of the world, when an emergency happens (be it police, ambulances, fire-fighter) those nearest to the situation will be dispatched to have the fastest response. In severe situations, not just the nearest team, but multiple/all teams near enough will be dispatched too... Nobody on frontline duty gets to choose when & where things happen... In this case the first team to arrive happened to be Officer Galloway (senior) & Officer Wilt (junior). The senior actually took the more dangerous position of being the lead, while the junior as back--up followinh behind. (Also the shooter likely planned to shoot the leader first, but ended up the shot landed on the one behind.)
