Freddie wasn't operatically trained, in fact his only musical training was as a child on piano. Everything he did, he learned as he went along. Makes this partnership with a renowned opera singer even more amazing!
Freddie could sing the telephone book and I'd happily listen to it. This song was recorded in the late 80's and was used for the Barcelona Olympics in 92 and achieved chart success that year but Freddie passed in 91 so he wasnt able to perform at the games as hoped.
Love that- sing the phone book...sad he had passed prior to the games:(
He wrote for her an entire album
That particular song was used for the Olympics games in 92 , that took place in Barcelona
Montserrat was one of the greatest opera singers ever to exist and Freddie's personal favorite
Legendary Man ❤
This song was for the 92 Olympics unfortunately Freddie wasn't with us anymore. Monty is a Spanish diva. RIP to 2 legends. You should check out How can I go on. Same album
“Monty”?
Yes Montserrat
wrong, not for the Olympics, read the history, was recorded even before Barcelona was picked
@@rogerw-interested Yes, the album was released in 1988. But Barcelona had then already been picked as the location for the '92 Summer Olympics (they do this years in advance because it takes a country years to prepare for it). Freddy was asked to write a song for the occasion. He had been a fan of Caballé and wanted a duet with her. Since the admiration was mutual they then decided to record an album together. So yes, this song was specifically written for the '92 Olympics in Barcelona. Dates alone don't always tell the whole story.
He once did a Spanish interview mentioning his admiration for the famous opera singer, somehow word got back to her and she requested a meeting. Close friends of Freddie's said he was never as nervous in his life as he was meeting her. They became close and Freddie wrote an entire album for her. She was echoing his lyrics in Spanish though he did sing a verse in Spanish, paying homage to his beloved friend Monseratte. Written for the Olympics in 92, sadly Freddie never made it and passed away in 91. She performed the song alone accompanied by a recording of Freddie's voice.
So beautiful. Always brings a tear. Freddie seemed especially proud of his work with “Montsy”.
Freddie could do anything musically! Montsie was fantastic. I never, I mean never, was into opera. But with Freddie combined with this opera singer was absolutely incredible. They have several other collab's that are fantastic. The Golden Boy and How Can I Go On are just a few. Thanks for the listen!
Great Reaction guys! Probably already mentioned in comments, but Freddie and Montsy (it’s what he called her) truly loved each other. If you choose to watch more of them together - especially How Can I Go On.. you’ll see how towards the end of the video they start holding hands, and Montsy said during an interview that she could see tears in Freddie’s eyes and so she decided to just hold on..
They recorded an whole album together ... if you want to see them perform live with a gospel choir, check out "The Golden Boy". Thank me later! XD
The Golden Boy and How can I go on are beautiful as well. I love the 2 of them together 💙💙💙
This was Freddies dream! He always wanted to sing Opera and he got the chance! Later she said that it was the most wonderful time singing with Freddie cause of his octave range! He also later sand with another opera singer who said he could have been the best!
RIP to 2 legendary voices! Great reaction this.
I need just 2 words to describe this song. Musical PERFECTION!!
Uma dupla tão incrível! Montserrat Caballé é simplesmente a maior cantora soprano de ópera do mundo, essa música foi composta para os jogos olímpicos de Barcelona
Freddie enjoyed both opera and ballet not trained in either, so unsure where you got this from, he wrote an album for the two of them and this was first released in around 1987 and used for the Barcelona Olympics in 1992 which he never lived too see, these two became great friends in around 1983-ish when he saw her in Opera Covent Garden London. There were a number of people at this concert from all musical backgrounds, it wasn't just these two
I love Freddie, i love Queen and this is my most favorite song of them. Always on 101% volume!!
Freddy was a big Opera fan. He respected the control of and the beauty operatic vocalists. That several opera stars performed with him on stage spoke of mutual admiration
The first vinyl I ever purchased with my own pocket money - at seven years old! This was HUGE in 92, glad my mum took me to Ourprice to buy it 😄
I've never read that Freddie Mercury had any vocal training at all. He was self-taught. In later years, as he was looking for 'solo' projects, he was in Spain and mentioned in an interview his favorite singer was Spanish Opera star, Montserrat. She learned of this and this came to him via Montserrat Caballe requesting of him to write a song for submission to the 1992 Olympics at Barcelona (her home town). Freddie obliged. He wrote this & they recorded it along with an entire album of just the two of them. It's wonderful. My favorite of his 'solo' things. Also, he & Montserrat became friends. Their voices blend wonderfully.
Well, now…wasn’t that interesting?! Thanks guys - that was awesome!
The "chem trails" airplanes leave in the sky are water left over from burning jet fuel. Also this song was made for the 92 olympics in barcelona where montserrat was from.
Morning guys! That was beautiful! It actually kinda gave me the chills a little. Love freddy and her voice is so smooth and powerful! Thanks for sharing this guys
There is ZERO trash to be said about Freddie. He is simply a legend. I love to revisit this song on occasion.
I was able to see him life in 1986 in my hometown Mannheim, Germany. I'm still thankful and proud for that.
Freddie realized his dream when he and the soprano diva Montserrat Caballe' met and collaborated to give us their Album, Barcelona. Hopefully you two will react to several songs from that well-received album. BTW, Freddie was not operatically trained. This was a wonderful experience, watching with you. Thank You.
Sooo happy now, nobody will ever compare to Freddie EVER!!!!!!
God damn, Smokey! Broke one off on the 6 🤣👊
Always blown away by their performances no matter how any times seen and heard!
Two beautiful queens 😍
As a 12 year old with 3 months of summer vacations...this was the best olympics to watch 😁especially the basketball dream team...what beautiful memories...the torch at the stadium was lit with an arrow at the opening ceremony...
Freddie didn’t discriminate, as stories go. He f’d anyone he desired and they accepted his Freddie. Love him
Freddie had been a long-time fan of opera, especially favoring Montserrat Caballé, the Spanish Opera Soprano. In 1986, he mentioned on Spanish television that he would be glad to see her in person.
Later, when Barcelona was chosen for the 1992 Summer Olympics, Caballé, a native of the city, was asked to help with producing a song for the games (her brother was in charge of organizing the open ceremony). She summoned Mercury for the task (it turned out that she was a Queen fan).
They first met in 1987 in the lobby of the former Ritz Carlton in Barcelona. Freddie was so nervous about meeting her that he was early (Freddie was notorious for being at least 15 minutes late to every meeting.). He had brought a pianist with him and began to perform a song of tones he had written for her called "Exercises in Free Love" - ua-cam.com/video/ZWCY34ibtgk/v-deo.html. (This is Freddie in falsetto)
Montserrat loved the song so much that she asked if she could perform it at a concert she had scheduled for the weekend at Covent Gardens. Of course, Freddie agreed. She then took the song and added words to it, renaming it "Ensueno". She and Freddie recorded it for the Barcelona album as the song "Ensueno" - ua-cam.com/video/DOySL4GYaDY/v-deo.html.
Freddie and Montserrat wrote the song “Barcelona” and it was selected for the 1992 Olympic theme. The recording was complicated by the tight schedule of Caballé. Thus to spare her time, Freddie would record the song, also singing her part in falsetto. He would then send a tape to Caballé to prepare her for the joint studio sessions.
Freddie and Montserrat (or Montsy as he called her) became good friends. It turned out that Montsy was a big rock and roll fanatic and there were several stories of Montsy and Freddie's drunken antics.
The sad ending of the story is Freddie passed away on November 24, 1991, before the 1992 Olympic games in Barcelona. Because he knew he was dying, Freddie and Montserrat produced this video of them singing "Barcelona" and it was used in the opening ceremony.
FYI - Tsetse is pronounced ˈ(t)setsē', the first "T'" is silent.
For the Olympic games. My brother moved to Barcelona from Sweden a few years ago and I might join him soon.
wrong, not for the Olympics, read the history, was recorded even before Barcelona was picked
Now both Freddie and Monserrat sing solos in a heavenly choir. Being friends like they had been for a long time until Freddie's demise.
I'm only 19 but I'm sooo in love with Freddie.
Freddie absolutely adored Montserrat and always dreamed of singing with her. She was one of the few people in whom he confided about his illness.
Quite possibly the best vocal duo performance you’ll ever hear in your lives lads.
As always you give honest and fun reactions, different but fresh and friendly.
Montserrat Caballé is one of the best opera singers in the world, a true Diva that Mercuri deeply admired.
In Catalonia (Spain), whose capital is Barcelona, there are mythical mountains due to their shapes and because there is a sanctuary that houses a black virgin and is the patron saint of the country. These mountains are called Montserrat which means toothed mountain, so Montserrat is a very common female name. La Caballé was from Barcelona.
I am from Barcelona and very proud of this fantastic city. The event was the presentation of the 1992 Olympic games.
So Keep on rocking guys !!!
Come to visit us !!!
Ok this should be Epic😂😂Enjoy this guy's.❤❤😂

😂😂omg Hollywood😂😂only medicine in her is she about blow your eardrums with her vocal capabilities😂😂😂❤❤
The entire album is wonderful. My favorite is Golden Boy.
Two awesome artists in one , whats not to like ! This song is awesome ! Never get tired off listening to it , so beautiful
This is a link to Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballe. She is a well-known and revered Italian opera singer. He was in Spain when he mentioned in an interview how he felt about monsey, her nickname . he had said she was the best voice in Opera he had ever heard . So word got back to Monsy and she contacted Freddy for this collaboration for the song for the 92 Olympics in Barcelona ( usually people do Barcelona first but you can do it in any order. I'm just adding this so that the comment applies to your reaction.) This song is actually about the first time Freddy met Montserrat . They ended up doing a full album titled Barcelona . I recently read in a comment that after her work with Freddy she had been approached by quite a number of Pop/rock singers to collaborate with and she said no that was reserved for Freddy and I won't do it with anybody else . Freddie was a long time fan of Opera. In particular he felt Montserrat had the best singing voice of any opera star. She was from Barcelona. The song had to be completed by 1988 to be considered for the opening ceremonies of the 1992 Barcelona Summer Olympics. Freddie told her 2 two years prior to his death that he would not be there to sing it with her because he had AIDS. From what I have pieced together she was the first person that he told even though his bandmates were seeing
This is the link to their performance of Golden Boy.

You should react to "Golden boy" by Freddie and Montserrat.
They have an entire album together, and Freddie wrote it.
Great combo. Freddie wrote an opera album and it's great. Ensueno is my favorite on the album. No Freddie never had vocal training at all, he sang in a school choir that's it.
Her last 30 secs just amazing
R. I. P to both.
believe it or not their whole album is just as fantastic and the fallen priest is my favourite track .
I got this CD in a 12 pack of Coke. I heard this and instantly tears started flowing. I'm a huge Queen fan and this has been a favorite since I first heard it. Thanks for reacting to this one! 🤘
I tear up with this song and how much talent the world has lost.
One of the best songs ever!!!
You should experience standing in the rain in Barcelona in Spain 🇪🇸 listening to this song fire off at their lit up fountains that run in time and colours to the music. Now that is epic and wet.
FREDDIE CANTA TUDO❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤NEVER FORGET ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I’ve been a fan of both for years! As a potter I sometimes put on an opera to throw clay on my wheel with. Never underestimate the power of operatic music nor its menagerie of fans lol and Freddy…well, no need to say anymore there. Loved this! Wtg guys!
Just found your channel and just love your reactions and enthusiastic responses. Also love Home Free so talented and Rob is operatic trained. ❤🇬🇧
🙏🙏🙏
Hey guys,I haven't heard this in the longest time,it's sooo fkn awesome 👍 Just my opinion, Freddie Mercury is fkn magical, not only could he sing anything, but damn what a performer!!!
for all those posting how the song was made for the '92 Olympics, your wrong. it was a song describing their first meeting and was recorded even before Barcelona was picked for the Olympics. listen to the lyrics "It was the first time that we met,
Barcelona! How can I forget, The moment that you stepped in the room, You took my breath away"
You guys are simply cool. I like all the reaction vids and your passion.
Thx from Germany.
🙏🙏🙏
While opera is not a favorite genre of music to me, I will listen to anything Freddie Mercury sings. It will always be great! ❤ Thank you.😊
9:22 love the way Freddie just casually drops into Italian..🥰🥰🥰
Smokeys face watching this!
Thanks, Boys! They were an amazing collaboration.. and very much in love! lol they had an entire album together.. I hope you listen to more!
Fredddy wrote this song for the Olympics in Barcelona in 1992.So Monserrat, who is born there sang the song alone at the opening of the Olympic
wrong, not for the Olympics, read the history, was recorded even before Barcelona was picked
@@rogerw-interested Barcelona was choosen in October 1986.The song was recorded in 1987 and Caballe was tasked with producing a theme song for the Games by the city of Barcelona. So she sang the song alone at the opening ceremonie.
A rock star that can sing opera. Amazing performance! ❤He can sing anything he wants with full of emotion. Thank you for your great reaction. Hope you can also react How can I go on. Thank you. #Love Freddie forever
"Freddy can do anything!" Totally loved your priceless reactions!
Me encantó vuestra reacción!
Great reaction, and by the way pasta are an Italian dish, lol
In case you were wondering and also just simply for your information:
Freddie Mercury had been approached by the International Olympic Committee for to write a song for the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games.
Those who know about Freddie Mercury know that he very much loved Opera music and as such was a great admirer of Monserrat Caballe who funnily enough is actually from the Spanish city of Barcelona.
I gather that both Monserrat and her daughter travelled to London once or twice to work with Freddie at his home.
But in case you had been wondering about the sense of occasion, and just how majestic a performance it was, hopefully this explanation will help to fill in some blanks.
Love this song and watching you guy’s reactions to this magical song was a treat. Thank you guy’s
Honestly Freddie Mercury could burp into a mic for 4 minutes and I would still have good things to say about him ❤❤❤❤
I have to say, I have watched MANY reactions to this song. Your reaction was the absolute best.
You definitely need to read the story that goes with this collaboration
The rapper sat on the left got the correct pronunciation of her name - she was a very much admired Spanish opera singer and someone who Freddie had a huge amount of admiration for.
She is Spanish, from
Barcelona, and she was mostly singing translations. He was obsessed with her and wrote an album for her. He always loved opera, which inspired Bohemian Rhapsody. He was not classically trained but he knew his voice was capable of singing opera.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤FANTASTICO❤❤❤❤❤❤
A Day to Remember, Downfall of Us All
it is the best song dedicated to a city . The people of Barcelona must be very proud.
I hardly understand why people says "they love music" without listening classical music.
Great reaction guys! Actually Freddie wasn’t classically trained. He wasn’t trained at all in voice. Can you react to Queen singing “now I’m here” live at wembley 1986. Have a wonderful new year’s 🥳🥂🍾
you should listen to "manowar" nessun dorma. that was something special too
In my opinion the best song for the Olimpic Games in my Europe. I have 40 y & after sooo manny years since the first time i heard this song on t.v us a kid i have goosbumps every time ..this is a song that will stay in history for years & years to come after we are gone for sure❤❤r.i p to both legends 😢
I love seeing your absolute joy when Barcelona dropped the second time!
BTW… Freddie was NOT operatically trained; he was completely SELF taught!
Freddie was NOT operatically trained. Who told you that ???
💛💛💛
Bro got this right when he was talking about newly weds. They met and "fell in love" in Barcelona. Besides Olympic music this is the story of their first meeting in a hotel room with a piano. Crazy but you can hear the tapes on UA-cam and they're funny AF
Freddie was not operatically trained.
He had no voice training at all.
UNCW has a water machine in Dobo Hall. Pressurized tank holding hydrogen, pressurized tank holding oxygen that leads to a third tank, with the valves set an exact 2 to 1 ratio
The best song on the Barcelona album, in my opinion, is The Golden Boy. You'll love it!!!!
I love watching you make the funniest mistakes in your interpretations and in your pronunciations of names. Consider doing a "corrections" style segment after some of the funniest mistakes. This one was so full.
Oh and the T in tse tse fly is silent 🤫
From the comments I've read so far most has been said about this song. I do want to add though that pasta in Spain isn't really a thing. Do they use pasta? Yes. Is it something common? No.
This song became my favorite when it was launched long before the Barcelona Olympics, usually at the close of the previous Olympics there would be a theme song for the next Olympics, around 1988 I first heard this song. However, it was your reaction that made me even more fascinated to hear it again... thank you for your reaction
Composed for Barcelona Olympics
LA CIUDAD MÁ HERMOSA DEL PLANETA...BARÇELONA, DOS AMIGOS QUE SE AMABAN, SE RESPETABAN, SE ADORABAN Y ERAN DOS DIOSES DE LA MÚSICA...GRANDIOSA CANCION A LA CIUDAD MAS HERMOSA
Simply beautiful.
Monistat...im dyin😂😂
This was Barcerlona Olympics 1992
Watch Golden Boy. Another song with Montserrat.
The conductor with the light saber is Brian May (if this has already been stated I apologize)
Recorded as the official song for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.
