That is one of the moments were I am happy that I'm in my middle 40th and old enough that I can say that I had the great honor to hear Montserrat Caballé live in two concerts. That woman was amazing.
Freddie wrote this for her (home town) He thought she had the most beautiful voice he had ever heard. They did an whole album together. This was in 87 they did a limited tour together cause he was getting sick. She absolutely loved Freddie. She died a couple yrs ago. There are other songs you should check out. 🔥
I so love your reactions ❤️ you get it. LOVE this song, so happy it was captured. They'll never be another Freddie Mercury. He lived out a dream of singing opera with, what he considered, the most beautiful voice in the world. Thank you for sharing ❤️
Freddie was so sick when he sang this. He nearly collapsed and needed a transfusion after this. They are both now gone but forever adored and so missed!
Montsy (her nickname that she asked Freddie to call her) sang all the high soprano notes. Freddie sang in his natural baritone range which Montsy loved and requested of him. They both recognized that their natural tones blended so well together. I wish I could hit the like button 20 times!!
This can make a person cry. Just to know what Freddie was capable of creating, even after all the beauty he wrote, composed & recorded under the Rock genres of Queen. What more would he have done? We shall never know. And it breaks my heart.
I firmly believe Freddie will never, never, ever, ever will stop being played, enjoyed and blowing away new fans for decades to come.........HE IS LEGEND........
They were amazing together. His PA Peter described how in awe he was of her voice and the control she had over it. In the studio she could turn down the volume/softness of her voice at will whereas Freddie would have to step further and further away from the mic to get the same effect. And as someone else mentioned, he was worried that he would overshadow her with his stage moves but he forgot how theatrical an opera diva is and they ended up having a veritable “arm waving” competition 😄
I think she sang "pianissimo" more beautifully than anyone, that high, pure, soft note that seemed to float in the air and go on forever. No wonder she took his breath away.
This was a dream come true for Freddie....he loved opera. It was Montserrat generally doing the high notes as she was soprano. Freddie wrote this for her but was shocked when she wanted to do a whole album....so he “had to put his money where his mouth is” as he said....and it’s a lovely album, especially Golden boy, guide me home & how can I go on. Apparently Freddie was first choice to play the phantom in phantom of the opera...for obvious reasons he couldn’t do it.
I had read that. I read it was the movie and Hollywood were desperate for him to agree. As you said he couldn't but I bet he would have loved to and it would have been spectacular.
I never heard that about Phantom. I think my head just exploded! As much as I adore Michael Crawford, Freddie's voice and energy would have taken that role to another level. Wow.

Freddie Mercury is the greatest of all time and there isn't anything the man cannot play or sing. ❤❤❤❤ Freddie Mercury and the soprano have this ultimate chemistry and he had one day to write this album for her. It was so funny watching his UA-cam video because he had no idea what she liked & yet he pulled it off. She wanted him to sing in his natural baritone voice and they have the best chemistry together, just ask Queen have awesome chemistry. Each queen band member did solo work and Roger had another band with the cross but none of their solo work was half as good as the band together. Queen's performance at Live Aid in 1985 proved to the band and to the people around the world that Queen was one of the best bands in the entire world even though they were together fifteen years by then.
HAP3 i’m so glad you got to hear this beautiful song. I think this is my favorite reaction you’ve done so far. It gives me chills and puts a smile on my face every time I hear it.I hope they’re together singing this in heaven.❤️😃👍🌼✌️Love and peace
This entire album is fantastic. The Golden Boy is another great one....has a gospel bit in it. And my favorite, Guide Me Home/How Can I Go On, all with Montserrat.
Wonderful to see all emotions shining on your face while watching this, it' s like a tidal wave, just hits you, right? Freddie was restraining himself from making his famous rock'n roll moves here :-) Montserrat herself Said on one interview that she was insecure about performing with him as being "too old" and Freddie told her: "My Dear, Music has no Age" (and, If I may add, no boundries, language barriers or, as he has proved, no genre limitations) If you liked this song, please listen to How Can I Go On or The Golden Boy, both from their Live in La Nit concert. Keep up with your Great reactions!
I don't normally listen to females opera singers, I just prefer male singers, but her voice is so light and lovely, every song they did together is amazing. How Can I Go Wrong is neck and neck with Barcelona as my favorite. There are so many places on the web where people pit singers against each other to decide who is the best. I don't bother with any of that. I agree with you, Freddie Mercury is just in a league of his own. A one-off. Putting in a plug for your Queen Playlist here - just keeps playing one video after another in my corner of the office today. Barcelona is a great addition.

Also from the Barcelona album is La Japonaise, a beautiful song partly in Japanese, that Freddie wrote in honor of his Japanese fans. He loved the country and its culture and traveled there many times. He flew a translater to England to help him with the lyrics. He and Montserrat became great friends..each was in awe of the other's work.
No it wasn't Freddie singing the high note - it was Montsy. That's most wonderful about this collaboration - the remarkable merging of these two excelling in performing their genre...two outstanding artists beautifully and artistically true entertainers. Thanks for reacting.
I'm pretty sure the high note you mentioned was her. He just had his mouth open. They were lipsyncing here. Unforrunately none of their performances together was actually live but it's still amazing. Goosebumps ❤
This video was so well-done, so masterfully put together, one would never have guessed that all of the songs on the albums were recorded in the studio & never performed live or with a full orchestra. The great Spanish tenor Jose Carreras sang Freddie's part for the '92 Olympics. There is one rather puzzling song on the Barcelona albums, The Fallen Priest, that I've never seen anyone react to or even mention. I would be curious to hear someone's take on it.
The really high notes are Montsy. This was a dream come true for Freddie. Such a moving experience to see this the first time...and...it turns out...every other time too.
Hi didn´t write Barcelona for the Olympic Games. He just wanted to compose a song for her and dedicate it to her. Barcelona later on choose the song for the games.
I still remember vividly how I mentioned Barcelona on your “Crazy little thing called love “ video- secretly wanting you to listen to it and it happened! It is so magical because it is a product of mutual admiration of two similar souls passionately in love with music and its creation and development. They didn’t care about how it will be received, how the world will react- they were blinded by each other, supported and lead each other. They sang for each other and created a wonder that never ceases to amaze!
The bells at the beginning do provide this christmas feeling. This is the groundwork to every crossover between rock/pop and classical/opera music. This whole album is maybe the work Freddie was most proud of.
I understand this is the first duet of it’s kind. Along with his great vocal abilities, what a great composer (along with his friend and collaborator Mike Moran). Great reaction!
Absolutely my favorite reaction channel to Queen and my beloved Freddie Mercury. I always say that if Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballe aren't there at the pearly gates to greet me with Barcelona then there's simply no reason to enter.
I've listened to this so many times but it still always leaves me speechless. Not only is it so beautiful but it's even more special knowing what it meant to Freddie. I'm sure someone else told you in the comments already, but doing this was a dream for him. He loved opera, and even more, he love Montserrat. He saw her perform once and was jumping up and down giddy saying he had just heard the best voice in the world. He wanted to work with her but, according to his assistant, was so nervous he almost left before he even got to meet her lol. Our unflappable Freddie was a fanboy! Singing and creating an album with her was beyond huge for him.
Hey, Dimash is not an opera singer, even if he has vocal abilities is far from what a Montserrat Caballé or Luciano Pavarotti (I mention him intentionally because Freddie Mercury also sang with him here, for example in "Nessun Dorma" an opera masterpiece ua-cam.com/video/qSGGuhJ6gLw/v-deo.html ) have proven and accomplished in front of the most severe opera's public at the Scala of Milan (I wish him not to try unless perfectly be prepared because they don't hesitate to throw rotten eggs or ultra-ripe tomatoes into the face if the notes are not perfectly placed!!!) or elsewhere: both have the ability to place with an extreme precision (today you can measure it with electronic devices the quality of a voice towards the wave of the note and its frequency) the notes and with a crystal clear voice/sound and Freddie was not outdone: things that Dimash have yet to prove, but you can dream, of course. 😉
Dios mío!!!!!! No hay palabras que expresen tanta hermosura, tanto poderío. Que gloriosa interpretación!!!! Que lujo, que triste a la vez. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I have seen you surprised and excited, you have reasons for it, it is one of the greatest performances of Freddie. Now imagine this scene: 1987, your favorite singer, a rock legend writes and dedicates a song to your city, Barcelona; One of the best sopranos in the world, by the way is also from Barcelona. This cocktail came together, my head and my heart exploded. Yes, I assure you that I went and I am very lucky. By the way reacts to "How Can I Go On" is crazy!
I would like to make a request: Jesus written by Freddie. It’s quite different from their usual sound (if there is such a thing for Queen) and it’s annoyingly catchy.
Absolutely epic! Two legends performing together with such ease and effortlessly. When you close your eyes listening to this it's like entering another dimension. Simply unmatched. They had so much fun together, their collaboration brought Freddie so much joy in his last years, and it took his mind off his illness. There are so many more beautiful songs on the album, but there are two songs among my faves called "Guide Me Home/How Can I Go On. There's a video here where the two songs go over from one to the other. I have to say, even being a fan for decades watching you going through the songs for the first time with your enthusiasm, eye for detail and emotional response it's like I'm listening to them for the first time again as well. Thank you for this!
She’s the one he wrote and sang Exercises in Free Love for to let her hear his range. She was “The” Soprano diva at the time. No rock singer had ever sang with an Opera singer before. Just another first for Freddie!!!! The Golden Boy collab is excellent!!! BTW, he was very ill at this time but you sure couldn’t tell yet. She wanted to do an entire album with him so Freddie with Mike Moran wrote all the songs, except for Golden Boy, who Freddie asked Tim Rice to write after giving him the backing track. Great reaction and love the mustache! Lol
Dude! I can’t even explain how much I enjoyed your reaction to this! You absolutely made my day. I have to say I believe you felt that in your soul. I was never a huge fan of opera. I think you either love it, or can respect it, but this and the rest of the Barcelona album made me a lover of it. I remember showing this to my son’s girlfriend for the first time and she was so moved, she was sobbing. Yes Freddie loved opera and the first time he saw Montserrat sing he was in love with her and her voice. According to his personal assistant Peter Freestone, Freddie was blown away by her and word got out to her and she wanted to meet Freddie. They were both so nervous when they met Montserrat said that he was “cold in his hands” and she was too. On their first meeting they stayed up until early in the morning singing and playing the piano. She asked him how many songs were usually on an album and he said 10, so she said, then write 10 songs. Lol! Barcelona was written about their first meeting and what an amazingly beautiful song it is. I loved the way you noticed that Freddie still even in performing opera was still his powerful, animated self. His producer, Mike Moran who played the piano for him and was the director for this performance said that Freddie was afraid of being himself with all of his arm movements and his style of performance with her on stage. Mike told him, “Freddie, you are performing with an Operatic Diva, I think it will be fine. Have you seen her perform?” It was definitely a match made in Heaven. Freddie and Montsy, as he called her became wonderful friends and shared a love for each other that was beautiful. Sadly she passed away about 2 years ago, but I believe that they are now in Heaven together and can you imagine how much sweeter Heaven sounds with the two of them there together. Your face throughout as you were witnessing this was great, but the expression you had at the very last part brought tears to my eyes. Again I believe you felt it in your soul. Bravo! Oh I also laughed out loud when you said you were going to have to mute what you wanted to say! I get it trust me. I feel the same way. Keep the great reactions coming friend. You are on a roll and I love it!♥️
@ HAP3SPEAKZ, great reaction to yet another classic song by Freddie. I've been a Queen fan since 1974, when Killer Queen was in the charts., and it's great to see them being appreciated. I would love to see you react to one of their later tracks. You Don't Fool Me from the Made In Heaven album springs to mind. Keep up the good work.

This is a later version with re-recorded full orchestra released in 2012 for the 25th anniversary of it's original release. As others have suggested, try The Golden Boy. Opera mixed with Gospel & Freddies style! Also Ensueno which is another duet with Montserrat to the tune of Exercises in free Love that you've already reacted to.
This Song was about Freddie meeting Montserrat :D. So the lyrics is basically Freddie's dream to meet his Guide and Inspiration which was Montserrat. And the chorus was '' BARCELONA it was the first time that we met, Barcelona, how can I forget? The moment that you stepped Into the room you took my breath away'' and so on... In this Music Video Brian was the conductor. 12:18 there is no reason for Freddie to do Soprano notes next to Montserrat. So all the high high notes are only by Montserrat. Great Reaction. :)
@@HAP3SPEAKZ Yes, sadly he is gone but also he is *not* gone because of his Music. I hope his Statue in Montreux will stay there forever so people of new generations will get to his Music in a way. But really it is hard for me to find words to not repeat myself. I know that saying good is an understatement but I'm always saying ''amazing, fantastic, good and great'' like my Vocabulary on praising isn't that much 😂😂 English is my second language that's why I have problem with some things. But it still works out pretty well don't it? But yes this song was... even more than _Fantastic._
Info about official song of 1992 Olympics: www.songfacts.com/facts/freddie-mercury/barcelona. If Freddie had lived it would've been the official song. Mike Moran and Freddie wrote all the songs on the Barcelona album. 💜👑
Great reaction! This wasn't actually Freddie singing opera he was going more with his usual style here, although he used less distortion. Freddie did the harmonies, but he mostly stuck to his full chest voice here. Your full chest is always a bit lower then your falsetto voice. falsetto is often used on harmonies. The chest voice is your most powerful and loudest voice, it is the strongest part of your voice. Opera singers tries to sing mostly in chest voice, because they have sing without microphones, their voices have to be heard over a large audience and the full orchestra. But it is impossible for tenors to actually use their full chest voice on high notes, the voice naturally switches over into mixed voice or head voice, which is softer and less powerful. Mixed voice is a combination of chest voice resonance and nasal falsetto resonance. Falsetto is complete nasal or head resonance, an it is softer. The chest voice wants to switch over into mixed voice from E4 - F4 for a baritone, and around G4 to A4 for a tenor. Freddie generally loved belting out in his full chest voice, he often resisted going into head or mixed voice. He is doing it in Barcelona as well, he uses very little head voice, but sings up to E5 in chest voice. The song where he really goes for the opera voice is Ensueno ua-cam.com/video/vZ7OLCPsiiE/v-deo.html. This was a tricky album to make at the time, no one had ever combined opera and contemporary music. Freddie tried to stick to his own style and Montserrat was obviously doing opera. But Montserrat convinced him to try one opera song (there is also a bit of a more opera style on The Golden Boy). Opera is a very elitist world, even Pavarotti had lots of critique about this album beforehand. Opera singers are trained for years, Freddie never had a vocal lesson in his life. (There are some rumours that Montserrat Caballe gave him some breathing techniques, after this album his vocal technique improved and he sang even higher, when he was dying). I do think Freddie was a bit appreciative about actually trying opera. Montserrat Cabelle was one of the biggest opera sopranos alongside Maria Callas in the last 50 years or so. In the end Pavarotti did say that Freddie had one of the best voices he has heard, and Pavarotti actually did a similar project like this with contemporary singers about 10 years after this album. In truth Freddie would have hated being a real opera singer, opera singers don't compose arias and they have to sing the pieces exactly as it was designed. Freddie was way to spontaneous in order to do something like this full time, he sang the same song differently every time. Montserrat Caballe loved the freedom of this project, she even provided the lyrics for Ensueno. So both of them got something out of it. If you want to see Freddie show off the high notes then you have to watch an Impromptu like Rock In Rio Blues 1985 ua-cam.com/video/j--af9kt3RM/v-deo.html. The whole Barcelona album is pretty good another amazing song and performance from Freddie on this album, is the alternative version of Guide Me Home/ How Can I go On ua-cam.com/video/9A-aITCcrdk/v-deo.html. Or The Golden Boy ua-cam.com/video/OPizyP4x30I/v-deo.html.

I doesn't matter how many time I listen to this song I get emotional. It is a masterpiece.
Wish Freddie was still with us 😔 imagine a duet with dimash would be the greatest duet of all-time 👏👏👏👏👏👌👍(loving this duet)great reaction.
Imagine that!!!! 💜

Barcelona was used as the theme song for the 1992 Olympic Games. Freddie wasn't alive to sing it with her then, they got another artist.
How very sad. I miss him too.

Helen Clarke Montserrat sang "Amigos para siempre " (friends forever) with spanish tenor Jose Carreras, "Barcelona" was played on video.
Dios mío!!!!!! No hay palabras que expresen tanta hermosura, tanto poderío. Que gloriosa interpretación!!!!
Que lujo, que triste a la vez.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Breathe Hap- breathe honey!!♥️
Passionate always
I love your reaction. 💙
Lol
So glad you reacted to this song, as one of my favorites. I still get tears. By the way I am a huge AJ fan and your not done there yet. : )
This was his greatest legacy song 🎵
Saw at the olimpics Freddie was shown on a giant screen when she sang this song
Ha ha, you at the end Hap 'speechless', laughed. Loved that, fantastic song, the DRAMA was huge and the reaction was wonderful and funny with it.
And this is probably listen number 5! Thanks!
I have never listened to this without getting goosebumps Freddie was AMAZING
Every he does durned to gold!!
100% pure gold

Golden Boy is a BLAST ....KABOOM
Just epic!
It's Montserrat that does that ascending to a high note bit you were wondering about.
oh, i love montsy! heard her live ... what a voice! amazing! and i met her ... never saw a woman laughing so much! :-) still got that signed poster on my wall ... love her! and i know why freddie loved her! amazing woman! very amazing! fits perfect with freddie! ♥ hashtag: truelove ^^+gg
Freddie put a Brian May wig on the conductor hahahaha
It's not Brian though (I think).
This Song was about Freddie meeting Montserrat :D. So the lyrics is basically Freddie's dream to meet his Guide and Inspiration which was Montserrat. And the chorus was '' BARCELONA it was the first time that we met,
Barcelona, how can I forget? The moment that you stepped Into the room you took my breath away'' and so on... In this Music Video Brian was the conductor. 12:18 there is no reason for Freddie to do Soprano notes next to Montserrat. So all the high high notes are only by Montserrat. Great Reaction. :)
Cheers benben! I did not want to be all like "OH is that Brian... blah blah" this time the music GOT a hold of me, and it was too good. (Copyrighted HAP3SPEAKZ) ©️
@@HAP3SPEAKZ Yea it's alright this song is really good :D
Good is an understatement 🙂 amazing Freddie Mercury. Let's be real. A real legend we lost. Very proud to have his and Queens content on this channel.

Gets me every time. 🎶
They played this at the Olympics I forget which one it was in 19 some thing thank u for sharing this...
Freddie he can sing everything because he was so unike wonderful performer and singer the best ever in historie. Missed him.
Info about official song of 1992 Olympics: www.songfacts.com/facts/freddie-mercury/barcelona. If Freddie had lived it would've been the official song. Mike Moran and Freddie wrote all the songs on the Barcelona album. 💜👑
For me I consider as the best duet in the history of music😍
Oh, I love Rock In Rio Blues! I hope to see a reaction to it soon.
