Wow! Hello everyone! Thanks for watching! Here's another custom I worked on while I work on my next video: ua-cam.com/users/shortsiFaZkEeydIw
A little dish soap in the mix helps work like a flow aid.
Good job!
Consider looking at oil washes. They're very good for slapping on a ton and wiping away
For larger figures like this, an oil wash would make more sense than acrylic. You get more time to work with it and it really gets into these recesses. Added a light metallic drybrush to the edges would really complete the weathered look
Thanks for the tips!
@@SuedeTsunami in addition, going over it with a piece of finer sandpaper in a few spots in random directions would also offer more of a sticking point to the oil. gives off a more worn look as opposed to just dirty, really comes in handy for larger figures in metal armor like this
I'm too scared to put any acrylic paint on my figures, it always chipped off of my painted Bionicle parts as a kid.
@@lemmingscanfly5 I’m guessing that’s because you likely didn’t add any primer, since acrylic paint doesn’t like to stick on smooth plastic at all. Trust me, I understand that pain.
I was about to comment this lmao. Alternatively you could use flow improver
He went through Blood Gulch teleporter
What is this black sh*t anyway?!
LMAO
outstanding response
“The jeep followed me back in time!”

Should’ve just sent him through the teleporter , tucker would approve 😅

Hey, do you ever wonder why we are *still* here?
@@anyderrosek9272 that’s one of life’s great mysteries, isn’t it?
@@Rocco049Why are we here? I mean, are we the product of some cosmic coincidence, or is there really a God watching everything?
@@caboosesms1257 no, I mean why are we here on UA-cam, when we could be somewhere else?
You should buy a bunch of those and Re-paint them to look like the blood gulch crew from red vs blue
OMG YES
Yes
This is what we need, the only thing that could improve it from there is actually having the blood gulch map
RvB was a better halo show than the halo show
exactly what i was thinking. i need to know where to get this i just finished wash i just need caboose
Master Chief you mind telling me what you are doing on that vídeo
Sir getting more drip
I did this with an optimus prime figure i had, i just used the Citadel Paint Nuln Oil. Works like a charm
It goes from being a dollar store figure to a Walmart figure instantly
These are the same garbage ones from walmart... I doubt they'll ever be as good as the Halo Reach ones back in the day
@@Osegis I miss those so much man. I remember I got a sick Jorge one as a kid.
@@Osegisi thought i was the only asking “where the hell are the reach figures”. I still have a grunt ultra from 10+ years ago that i found in a box yesterday. I also had the elite minor, emile, kat, noble 6 and even the damn warthog but those are lost. These new figures have NOTHING on the reach figures
1- buy figure
2-???
3- apply black wash
4-profit
Use shades. Citadel Nuln Iron, Army Painter Dark Tone, etc.
10 drops of thinner to 1 drop of paint makes a nice wash. That was WAY too thick.
If you make the wash thinner, you won't have to do all that wiping
Thanks for the tip! Yeah, it got to be way thicker than I intended. 😅
@@SuedeTsunami honestly I've been thinking about wiping and the that seems to be the best way to add black to recesses (that I do NOT want to paint over. I've been eyeballing this space ship I have)
Definitely makes it look more battle scarred than before.
I think after wiping away the excess it looks too clean. Try using some Citadel Paints Nuln Oil, specifically old recipe in the large pot.
You could use citadel paints nuln oil, you don't have to rub anything off
I think i have been using paint wrong ever since i was told not to lick the brush in kindergarten...
As he said big green skittle I pulled out a green skittle out my bag of random skittles
You let the paint dry too much. Work in sections, and remove the paint while its still wet.
Try using a little less black in your wash- and when removing the excess, try a Magic Eraser instead of a paper towel. You should also try a wash of burnt umber on the boots, knees and elbows for a more "dirt" look.
You can mix some flocking into the mix for the boots to get a bit of grass and organic debris on them -particularly near the soles.
I think your Chief looks good- smart idea to mask the visor.
Danm liberels always black washing every character
While not similar, yet related. I do black washing for custom Gunpla kits, and one I did for recently is the (while its not a custom)"GM Spartan" which is a bit ironic for this instance. Being the the GM Spartan is green like MC
The design (for the model at least) takes a few design ques from MC.
@@megatron8449 it's quite the opposite though, cause the GM Spartan is much older in design. 1989, then to 2005 with a Resin kit basically updating the blocky design of 1989. Then finally an 2022 official kit. Personally, as someone with the model, I don't really see the MC inspiration. Besides the obvious green and the Spartan naming, design not so much. Maybe the head piece? But that's about it to me, though a stretch
@@soksocks the 2022 kit, iirc, it has gold visor, though I'm probably wrong on that.
@@megatron8449 it's blue. Other than that, there really isn't MC inspiration imo. Though, you most likely saw a conversion kit, custom model, and/or other GM models(GM Sniper Custom has gold). Which others can have golden visors, the standard look for the Spartan is, again, blue. Even then, GM by design is was before MC, and way before the Microsoft 1999 look. Gundam all the way in 79'
@@megatron8449not malicious, but you're wrong. The 22' GM spartan really only has a blue visor. Nothing about it correlates with Halo than by name. Regardless, Gundam as whole, which the GM's come from, are older by 2 decades. As the poster said, they pretty much go back to 79'. Which also means Bungie, if anything, would've taken inspiration from older media. Gundam perhaps is one. But we know that the 99' MC doesn't look remotely like GM's till maybe the 01' iteration. Though saying that is a reach. Also to say that Gundam took inspiration from Halo is wrong, since years don't line up right. The 05' Resin kit and the 22' model already has been derived back in 89'
Lol, I did something kinda similar to this. But with the Noble 6 and 5 HaloLoot Crates. They were too grey and not enough detailed. So I used a black fine sharpie to get into paint the lines in their amor.
Too bad it’s the 10 year anniversary version and not a faithful look.
I hate how no one uses the original design. The CE remaster didn't only ruin the art style and atmosphere of the entire game, but now this is how people think of his armor even though it's objectively inferior to the old version. Just look at how blocky and weird the new helmet is
I always love this Technique for Prop making! Especially warhammer 40,000 props, In the bizz, We call it a "Mega wash!"
For anyone who cares in 3d modeling you can use substance painter to texture 3d models and get the same effect he has here by using a dirt generator on a black mask ☺️
Ruined it in my opinion. But hey, your money, your choice what to do with it.
When you make a wash your self you should realllllly add a flow aid like a drop of dish soap youll thank me later
“Sir I have obtained the ability to say the n word”
Big green skittle is the best possible description lol
I actually highly recommend letting the paint get into the visor, brings out the Line work and prevents the visor from sticking out too much. Really improved my linda!
i want that figure so bad, id be so happy with it, sadly i dont have one
Looks like you colored him with a sharpy
Ehhhhh you should have used a darker green and put it directly into the recesses. Or panel lined
I’m such loose fan of halo all I see is delta from rvb
No he looks like he works at Jiffy Lube
Silver up the edges and yer done
Lol “big green skittle”
Oh did he go through a teleporter
Very nice video but PLEASE SAY IT right stop calling it halo 1 its HALO COMBAT EVOLVED 👌
Where can I buy this?
He went through the teleporter
That’s almost flawless m8
Considering you have the option to put a lot of money into Spartan cosmetics Halo 5’s revive would have been a much better feature instead of my silly little AI floating around like 👁️👄👁️
That’s a thick wash try cotton swab with tiny alcohol gently. Idk I guess it looks good enough.
It looks like he came out of a comic!!! I love it!
Not bad, i'd consider using an oil wash or thinning the wash down a bit more. If you wanted to make it pop you could drybrush certain edges with a light gray.
My favorite part of the old mega blocks figures was the blackwash.
I thought you were going to make it all black like ce anniversary cover….
His guns are wrong
After I do a black wash I like to add brown around the feet and leg area. Maybe find a random spots here and there depending on the look I'm going for. Fighting aliens in strange places is dirty work.
I guess I'm the only person who just really doesn't like it. Cool idea, though.
i get its for cost but i always never liked when they make figures like halo, star wars, and any other franchise about action with armor and battlefields and never paint the dirt, paint chipping, and ash marks from the armor, clothes, and even the shoes of a character is spotless.
Oof. Wipe off? You're talking about oil washes now.
Thanks so much I want to do this with my mega Construx figures
Hey! Thats pretty good
Jizzware figure are absolutely trash. I wish Mattel or McFarland still had the rights 😑
Amazing work man. Wish they’d hire you to work for Jazware. You might teach them something.
I think it should be given a slight shine to the armor to replicate how it looked in the original game.
My drybrush senses are tingling…
Otherwise, gj! Goes to show you that good ol’ Dunc is right: a little work goes a long way in model painting.
Looks delicious
Uhh. That’s an odd way to wash.
Needs to be far more watered down. And usually washes are ink based I believe.
Should only really go into the recesses, and usually not need to be wiped off afterwards.
I think you’re just creating extra steps for yourself.
I would have gone with an oil wash for a figure of this scale. A black wash is something I use on my minis.
I'd recommend using Tamiya Panel Liner. It emphasizes depth on armor really well without tarnishing. For tarnishing there's better resources for battle wear and dirt.
While I like the idea of what you wanted to do, I think your "wash" wasnt a watered down enough. That was way to thicc. Try out Army Painter's Strong Tone, or Dark Tone Washes. They are a lot thinner and dont really need to be "wiped away" so much as just let it dry. It tends to unify the entire color pallet of the underlying paint job, while adding panel line details and brings the raised surfaces pop more.
Also, dont forget to add highlights afterwards,
I had a friend get me the CE and Infinite figures as a gift a year or so ago. Really nice thought but the toy/product itself is just terribly made. Only one limb has any range of motion and the head is completely stuck in place. Impossible to pose the figures in any position other that the default standing position the come in in the box. And that position they can't even stand upright on their own. Real shame.
I can't stand how low quality these figures are. Cheap plastic and no detail. Unbelievable.
Halfway through the process it looks like Master Chief was fighting the ink from Bendy and the Ink Machine
Remember kids, never fuck with the blood gulch teleporters. You'll get black shit all over your armor.
At first I saw you doing black wash, I was like okok.. that's nice
Then I see you mess up on the visor...
Ik it's supposed to be wiped off but with how black it looks I reminds me of the moments of Red Vs Blue (season 1) where they went into the teleporter and got covered in black stuff on their armor. 😂
You know you could have tried a panel lining marker if you haven’t already. I do this to all my gunpla kits.
There was a word i was trying to figure out to call it
Skittle is perfect 👍
You’re waiting too long after applying the wash. It’s drying up before you can wipe it off.
If you wipe when it’s wet it’ll give a streakier look with more transition between dark and light.
Now its a sht covered skittle
lmao
Use alcohol mixed with acrylic, it flows better, dries faster, and you can reactivate with more alcohol wash, rendering better results.
Remastered
I'd recommend doing your washes differently. Don't let it dry at all. Take it off as soon as you put it on. Use something soft like a rag that can conform to the curves better. Put a number of layers on that will build up in the crevices. You don't want dirt on the flats and high areas because those naturally take wear. You should hit those areas with silver instead.
Master skittle, you mind telling me what you’re doing on that ship?
Sir, tasting the rainbow
I am not an expert by any means, but one way I have done acrylic black washes that might give you a little better result (not that yours is bad 😉) water it down a bit more or use black ink watered down a bit more with a drop or 2 of dishwasher rinse aid.
Your paint job looks great either way though.
They also black wash Keyes and his daughter in the TV show but that’s a different type of black washing….
Halo ce still has the best magazine capacity for the assault rifle
You should get another one and keep the black paint on it so he looks like the halo anniversary chief
I’d try a Citadel paint like Nuln Oil. Then you don’t have to try and wipe away everything with a paper towel, and it’ll probably end up cleaner
Maybe spend some time watching 40k painting videos so you can learn how to use washes. Use a small brush next time and paint directly into thw details with the wash and then you won't have to use the paper towel. It also won't leave residue everywhere.
Great customization technique, makes the figure even more awesome.
You don't have to wipe it off if you water the paint down more. If it looks like blackish water that's normally good
I loved doing washes on my Transformers. I just wish I could get it all in the line details without leaving residue elsewhere.
Use games workshop, army painter or Vallejo paints and washes for the absolute best results. I used to make washes but after using any of these brands…damn
It would be way better if it had KingAssrippwer in the background audii
Pro tip: There's this stuff called "nuln oil" from citadel which give the same affect + the time saved on not wiping the paint of
I wonder if using some mid grade sandpaper on stuff like the gloves and the visor would give them a better plastic/cloth appearance
It looks like someone's child painted over a figurine and they cleaned it as best as they could. It always does.
I paint modes. Either go by some real wash which more than just paint and water or add more water to your you got too much pigment remaining, it shouldn't have that much coverage it should be more translucent
wow
Looks great! A little more dry brushing with the metallic paint would do it Justice
Agrax earthshade or nuln oil from citadel paints is a wash that gets into every crack and recess. It's reslly thin so as long as you apply a thin layer you don't have to worry about removing it
Sometimes before black washing, ill take a razor or sand paper band add scrapes and scuffs different parts of the armor, and they pop out
I wanna paint it blue so badly
If y'all don't get the reference, ya missed out on the golden age of Red VS Blue
Ive been painting halo figs since halo 3 to have the colours i uses to use in multiplayer the amount of extra visable detail you get with a pinch of blackwash honestly is surprising
He looks like he just got done with the mission 343 guilty spark. It looks pretty cool fr
