I was really interested listening to your book club discussion. However, I really enjoyed “West with Giraffes” and didn’t necessarily expect to. I thought it would be fine, but I fell in love with Woody and the Old Man. I enjoyed the addition of Red, and mostly-I absolutely loved the giraffes! A little side note-The girl wasn’t Woody’s daughter. It stated that he had never been with a woman when Red was already pregnant. But I saw it that Woody did end up with a family in a way-his family became all the people back at the San Diego Zoo after the war who knew all about him from The Old Man. And of course, the giraffes. That’s where he made his home, and those were his people. My book club meets tomorrow, and I’ll be interested to see what everyone else thought. Maybe they’ll all feel the way y’all did. But it made me realize I need to read more coming-of-age books which include journeys where all sorts of situations and characters are encountered. “This Tender Land” by William Kent Krueger was one I absolutely loved along these same lines set in the same time period. If y’all haven’t read this, you might like it better than WWG. Thanks for sharing your discussion. I’ll be looking for more!❤️
Hi Julie, love your comment! 😃 Thank you so much for listening and sharing your point of view! A few Cove members absolutely adored THIS TENDER LAND, Monica being one of them!
