Your right about that because in movies when you see the ghost too early it ruins it OK for jump scare but like anything you need to build suspense and fear in the mind of the viewers.
Oh and I also love how the script dispelled stereotypes - as usual she went to shady- looking neighbour seeking answers like maybe someone was murdered there BUT turns out the neighbour had problems of her own!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: As both an Industry Professional spanning 50 years, and a massive fan of all things Horror myself, I loved this film, as it managed to do something thousands of other Horror films have failed to do, and I have missed for years, and that was give me that chills feeling, in one of the spooky scenes, The Acting was perfect, the Sound Design so well done, the Script, Lighting, Set Design, Effects, Cinematography, Editing and Directing all combine to make a seriously good film, that any true fan of Ghost Story's should enjoy. Over the years my work and passion for Films has lead me to watched around 70,000 film titles, the vast majority being Horror, and I tend to appreciate a lot more in a film than the average movie fan might, far more than just the Acting and Story, so I give this film a very well deserved 9/10 and it will be a film I will be adding to my Private Film Collection for sure.

This movie was well done. Excellently written, eerily suspenseful, intelligently thought-provoking, & gripping from beginning to end. And that's how it should be watched. It's well worth it & I strongly recommend this one!

What the 'gift' of demonic possession? Of course I know the demons are from Holywood. But in real life if a person is told that behind that closed door the baby crawled across the ceiling and spoke in foreign tongues they would think you were trying to have them on and if the person seemed so menaced by the demonds as to be clearly suffering then they would more likely have her commited. So if you never saw anything your self-Would you believe all you were told? I think most people would not.
Dear lord, seven minutes in and that Overbearing Mother (TM) is oozing low-key abusiveness. No idea how the movie develops, but if she get's eaten, I'm giving it a thumbs up.
The feeling of despair when you have a serious problem and the people around you who are close to you do not want to share the problem and are completely incomprehensive. I deeply sympathize with her.

I lived in a (dark energy) haunted house too. You are a wise woman in moving out (I had no choice as I was a child at the time and my mum was apparently Ok with it, lol) but I have frequently found myself screaming at videos or films of paranormal activity... "Get in your car and drive away" or 'Just leave the house'. Nothing is worth your emotional or physiological wellbeing and people do not realise how, harmful the effect of exposure to these types of entities and energies can be or, that they can in fact, then attach to the person themselves... It's serious stuff☠️
When I was a little girl, I lived in a haunted house. I remember my mom packing us up in the middle of the night and literally running out the door. I can still feel the energy 50 years later.
But...I think it was her...the old guy asked her "what's stopping you from leaving" boom..and now he's dead. It wasn't the house..it was her. The house didn't follow her around to scare her..

I've worked in a little town like this, where THE STARERS gape at you, with those blank expressions......I called it "Witchy Town"......yes, I did leave, and felt a huge relief inside me. Always listen to that 6th sense.....it may well save you.
He was trying to help but in his own way.he didn't believe in ghosts but was trying to help her by sending her to a psychiatrist and which was right at the end .There was no ghosts just her strong desire to go to Chicago which caused all of it.

I have always been a fan and a staunch believer in ghost stories. Now, whether or not you believe in the supernatural I am here to tell you that there are spirits among us always. I have lived in numerous places in which the air was rife with ghostly footsteps, things moving, or even disappearing for hours or days before being returned with no earthly explanation. I have seen spirits in the most unlikely of places. For this reason. I highly recommend this picture. It was well done, the acting was superb and the camera angles mesmerizing . Films of this high caliber need to be watched by non-believers so that people like myself can share our experiences with actual hauntings. Those who have been lucky enough to experience things that go bump in the night (or worse), I would love to hear your stories. This movie is highly recommend. Feel free to reply. Oh, and no, I am not crazy.
I don’t believe in ghosts or spirits and a movie like this didn’t convince me. And if you weren’t crazy how would you know it? More people in the US believe in guardian angels than in evolution. The whole country is crazy!

Spoilers The ending should have been that the husband got hurt badly only and when he got better he was continually sorry and apologetic to her having realised she was right all along and _immediately_ decided to return to Chicago. In fact this is in my memory of what happened first time l watched _so this change is a Mandella!_
But, funny thing is that the scene cuts right from the Chiropractor's house to the husband's, after the Doc asks: what's stopping you? The husband is stopping her, that's why he dies! Her energy is triggered right away when the doc shoots the question. So crazyyyyyy ! I looooved it

Don't you just hate it when someone insults your intelligence ? It's like gas lighting and brainwashing all rolled into one. Husband, none supportive and selfish. Mother, an over assertive control freak. Cowardly ghost, no show just a lot of noisy drama. I hurt every time poor Jennifer fell, dragged around the house, thrown down the stairs, amazing she didn't miscarry her baby.
For once a horror movie that wasn’t far fetched and laughable. I enjoyed this movie as I believe in the paranormal and spirit world. Walter was right, some houses do have an energy. I also thought that Jennifer looked like Kate Winslet.

At first I thought it was going to be like Rosemary's baby. As it progressed it looked like Luke should have been married to the mother in law , what a jerk. It was a good movie but a strange ending.
Mom's wallpaper matches a bedspread and curtain set I used to have. I really loved that pattern. I love mixing animal prints and flowers with rich colors.

I watch a lot of horror. A LOT of horror. This is surprisingly good. Some of the performances don't gel and it's a bit long for my tastes, but if you're in the mood for a slow burn with a stellar performance from a leading lady, give this one a go.
I agree! I thought I was alone & losing my hearing! Lol! It's the speaking that's difficult to hear & make out so I had to turn it way up. But then when doors were shutting or people were knocking it was so loud it scared the begeezus outta me😳😬😆😆

Have you ever seen Lake Mungo? It is an Australian psychological horror. To me, this is one of the most scariest movies I've ever seen.

I don’t believe in ghosts or spirits and a movie like this didn’t convince me. And if you weren’t crazy how would you know it? More people in the US believe in guardian angels than in evolution. The whole country is crazy!
Great movie, it shows really well how lonely you can feel when surrounded by the people who patronise you and put you down.

Husband was more close to his mother in law.
Great acting, worth a watch, ending could have been less ambiguous but as i say, worth a watch definately.

The ending should have been that the husband got hurt badly only and when he got better he was continually sorry and apologetic to her having realised she was right all along and _immediately_ decided to return to Chicago.
In fact this is in my memory of what happened first time l watched _so this change is a Mandella!_
But, funny thing is that the scene cuts right from the Chiropractor's house to the husband's, after the Doc asks: what's stopping you?
The husband is stopping her, that's why he dies! Her energy is triggered right away when the doc shoots the question. So crazyyyyyy ! I looooved it

She saw him as an obstacle she hated him unconsciously for ruining her life baby moving etc she removed the obstacle it wasn't the house it was her..

Don't you just hate it when someone insults your intelligence ? It's like gas lighting and brainwashing all rolled into one. Husband, none supportive and selfish. Mother, an over assertive control freak. Cowardly ghost, no show just a lot of noisy drama. I hurt every time poor Jennifer fell, dragged around the house, thrown down the stairs, amazing she didn't miscarry her baby.

A good suspenseful free movie. Interesting and well worth watching.

There is always an explanation for everything, and sometimes the explanation is that the house is haunted.
Or gass sipping up from the ground and into the houses making people paranoid and seeing things like LSD.

For once a horror movie that wasn’t far fetched and laughable. I enjoyed this movie as I believe in the paranormal and spirit world. Walter was right, some houses do have an energy. I also thought that Jennifer looked like Kate Winslet.

@@TyMiller-md7jt As I said, I believe in the paranormal and this movie was a bit more authentic compared with most supernatural movies. There wasn’t anything special about it but I thought it was well made. I have also felt my late parent’s spiritual presence and believe the afterlife is real.

At first I thought it was going to be like Rosemary's baby. As it progressed it looked like Luke should have been married to the mother in law , what a jerk. It was a good movie but a strange ending.

I watch a lot of horror. A LOT of horror. This is surprisingly good. Some of the performances don't gel and it's a bit long for my tastes, but if you're in the mood for a slow burn with a stellar performance from a leading lady, give this one a go.
