I agree. When using unnecessary walnut, it should be everywhere lol, but breaking it up with maple 🍁 always looks nice. I like how it coincides well with the sapwood in the walnut panels. Great work so far, man.
Looks amazing! I love the magnetic trim around the safe. Very clever idea. For the upcoming closet hardware, I'd recommend electro magnetic locks with a keypad/keycard. No springs needed and it'll pop open once the code/card is used.
This is a SUPER-well executed project! It looks REALLY good. I've been hearing about this project on your podcast, and the reveal does not disappoint. My favorite feature is the custom switch cover.
Hey thanks man, I really appreciate it! I'm surprised how many people are loving the switch and outlet plates. I have that process recorded and it'll be part of the making and hanging trim video eventually.
*"Learned Something new"* @4:03 . I've never seen anyone else use a washer to create a straight line like that. Definitely something I'll be doing in the future and thank you for that simple tip!
I can’t wait to see you trim out your tool box. I’ve had the same thought about my red tool box in my workshop. It great, but the color just doesn’t fit my workshop.
I've YET to do step ONE in finishing our basement...we've been married for close to 20 years AND in this home for close to 15... bought in a terrible market and such is life...God IS good..bills sure suck! Haha! Nice work!
Beautiful work. My only suggestion is that the drawer fronts look a little dated. Maybe a solid front would look more modern. The nice thing about the size of the tv is that you could also use it as a giant monitor. Nicely done!
It’s looking awesome! I’m excited to see the project as it progresses! The magnetic trim around the safe is genius! Also, I vote that the super secret cabinet should be voice actuated, by the Arnold “EEEIIAAAHHH” sound...
Some 20 years ago I built a garage with an upstairs office behind my house. I had an 850lb gun safe brought up the stairs and bolted onto a 12 inch pedestal in a corner of the office. Then I built walls and a door around the safe. It looks like a closet, not a gun safe. The safe is never coming out again, obviously. Now I have far too many guns for any safe. I'm planning a new house in the mountains near here where most of the basement will be an armory, with an armored safe door, and maybe a little gunsmithing area inside.
Very cool. Did you consider veneering the whole save with walnut on magnets? Similar to how some homes "hide" the fridge to make it look like the surrounding cabinets? I could see how that might be too much, just curious, since you mentioned covering the tool box.
The only thing I would have changed is the paint walls. The color just does not compliment or fit in the pallet of all that wood finished the way that it is. A color that is more of an off white that was based on a yellow, brown, or even just a much lighter tone of the color chosen would look better. Maybe it is just how it looks on camera.
Everybody has different opinions on colors. I’ve been following Julian and Sons for years, and I picked the color based on one of the incredible rooms they made.
Thanks! I’m thinking a small recliner in the corner, possibly a massage chair. Then a few stools for the workstations. I have a link in the description to the stools I’m thinking I’ll buy.

Mine too. I hate the damn things, but it's a necessary evil. The place is so cold that I can't walk around without some sort of footwear, but a shoe or slipper makes my foot sweat.
Well what do you think? How's my Teddy Roosevelt room looking so far?
Looks amazing 👍

We will have to talk about that some more. I think I have my hardware picked out already, but I’m open to suggestions!
I finally understand how my wife feels when I explain to her future plans that I'm excited about...Haha! Lookin great so far!
Thanks Eric!

Beautifully done
Thank you so much 😀
I think my favorite part is the walnut switch and outlet covers!
I’m really happy with how those turned out!
You should be very proud, that room looks amazing! Can't wait to see all the work that went into it
Thanks man, I am quite proud.

Looks amazing! Definitely a room I'd want to hang out in.
The door is always open... if you can find it!
Wow that looks so cozy and great to hang out in. Nice job
Thank you! 🤗
Nice work, the switch panels are something else
I think so too!
Great video Mark and the room looks amazing! Looking forward to seeing more of this.
Thanks so much!
Great idea on the safe trim. Looks great!
Glad you like it!
Love the Walnut. Great idea with the magnet trim on the safe.I might try something similar. Great job.
Thanks 👍 I want to see a picture if you do it too!
Looks awesome brother can't wait for the other videos ... Keep it up brother
Thanks! Will do!
Looks awesome! Looking forward to the upcoming videos. Maybe do some special display of your mounts?
Thanks Robert!

Should be a bit of a challenge, but all kinds of fun to pull off!
Unnecessary walnut is more than necessary! Looks amazing.

4:01 I really like that washer trick for copying contours! I will steal that :)
It’s super handy! I wish it was my idea, but it’s been used forever.
Looks great Mark! Now I just need a walnut farm.
Man your giving me some really neat ideas for my future gun room/armory
Hey man, just wanted to say I love your channel and the projects you show. I’m sure you’ll get up to 500k subscribers before you know it!

You sir, are my here. And I would love to visit your armory some day to see the collection and swap stories.
Cut out a cubby behind the TV for the mount. Then you can flush the TV to the wall before you trim it out.
It is on an articulating mount so I can pull it out and aim it at the corner where I plan to put a comfy chair.
Great job!
Thanks!

Honestly that one didn’t occur to me. It’s definitely worth investigating though!
Looks great.
Need some leather chairs in there now! It's looking amazing!
Thanks! I’m already looking for just the right ones.
Looks great! I was wondering what happened to the progress reports on the man cave.
Life just keeps getting in the way!
😉Well done.looking forward to those next videos.👍🏼
Coming soon!
Hey, about the space over the safe... Why not some whisky and glasses?
That’s a good idea… especially based on last year, it’s going to be a long time before I get a pheasant that’s worth mounting.
This is so unnecessary…& I love it! Can’t wait for the next projects.
Me either!
May need to add small dehumidifier !
Possibly… I have a massive one that works for the full square footage of the basement. But if the door is always shut then it’ll need it’s own.
Next thing, walnut cover your car 😂
The safe cover is genius!
Good idea!!
Nice work
Thanks!

Man that is an outstanding quote! I completely agree.
What’s the size of the room
Need an overstuffed blackleather chair
That's the plan! Possibly even a massage chair.
What activities are you planning on doing in this room. It sure is fantastic looking so far. Oh yeah leave some walnut for the rest of us guys😊
No way. It’s all mine! Mwahhhaahaha.
Ok, this might have already been commented on but, did i see Crocs!?!
That just hurts my heart

safe door swings the wrong way.
Good eye. Hard to swap that around. Besides, this way it acts as a shield in the case of a shootout.
