Believe it or not I learned about the Arette brand from watching Moonshiners. One of the guys went to Mexico to learn about Tequila and Mezcal. And the first stop was the El Llano distillery in the town of Tequila. I still have yet to try the one mentioned in this video but it’s definitely worth trying.
Hello gentlemen, is it just me or.... does cimarron taste wierd ? Upon my first sip i was hit with this earthy flavor i couldnt describe. It was different from any tequila iv ever tasted. It has a higher score on tequila match maker than arette. However i didnt like the flavor. I put it down for a few weeks but ran out of other things and came back to it. Upon trying it again the flavor was strange but the more i drank it, the earthy notes started tasting like floral notes almost like this tequila called LALO but more pungent with the cimmaron. I have mixed feelings about this one. Drank this room temp sipping or in shots.
Totally agree on Arrete. It's absolutely delicious. And for $5 more, you can grab a nice bottle of Cascahuin blanco (not the tahona one). It is superb.
Just finished my first bottle of arette blanco the other day, went back and bought their blanco and reposado to add to my home bar. Great tequila, everyone loves it in my drinks. Found a local liquor store that carries fortaleza so thats hopefully next.
Oh awesome ! Happy you enjoyed Arette. And honestly I'd run not walk to that store and stock up on Fortaleza before it's gone. Demand for it is insane right now and from what I've heard most places can't keep it in stock long enough
Arette has been my go to for awhile now. I like it better than more expensive quality brands. Question for you... What's your personal preference for and orange liqueur with Arette for margaritas? I've tried Clément Créole Shrubb, Cointreau, and Grand Marnier. I found that the first two create a bit of a sharp edge with Arette and prefer Grand Marnier with it. I think it's darker tone smooths out the mix better... I also have a blend of Grand Marnier and Clément that works pretty well. What do you prefer?
Lui! I’m heading down to Mazatlan in November and would like to know if you know where to pick up some great bottles and which ones would you recommend that are difficult to find here in the states? I’m a huge fan of Fortaleza and Tequila Ocho and Mezcal in general. Thank you!
I get Altos Reposado for $19.95 in a small liquor store in San Diego and it is amazing for the price. I prefer it to casa amigoes and clase Azul. Another great sippin tequila is Centenario Anejo. $26.00 in Costo (on special).
COA is a hidden gem, its under $20!! Its from Los Altos, Jalisco... Its my favorite sipping tequila for the amazing price point... It has a masculine approach with a nice peppery pineapple finish😋😍
Hey Lui, I love your videos, seriously thank you for providing the knowledge. Can you recommend a tequila to make good Paloma ( grapefruit soda and tequila)drink but also use the same tequila to take a shot every so often. Thanks in advance
@@Lui_Fern Thanks for the advice, went out and bought a couple bottles of Tesoro, tequila Ocho, Arette and a bottle of Fortaleza and a Tequileño repo, keep it the good work!!
I tried all the tequilas you recomended. After awhile all of them start tasting the same and your splitting hairs unless its the first drink of the day. Arrette was smoothest but i had a different lot which was a bit more earthy.Meaning the flavors change between lots? $25 1L. Olmeca altos was 26.99 750ml i like this after arette. This tequila also has the nicest cap. The arrete bottle cap is so bad it doesnt stay tight and free spins, leading me to drink more of it faster. The el tequileno was ok but had a bit more alcohol notes and not as smooth at the other two. $20 750ml. Not bad tho. The cimmaron 1L $26. This one is interesting it had the earthiest taste. You will either gag or learn to embrace that earthy flavor. It tastes like a floral note after awhile. This tequila was the most memorable for me, its flavor profile was the most distinguishable. These were all rated 80+ on tequila match maker. Another one i drank before was lunazul $34 1.75L . Its rated high 70s on tmm its not as nice as the others above but if your drinking alot on the cheap it works. Plus you only appreciate the first few shots and after while one might stop caring what things taste like. I didnt particularly like the cimarron so i blended it with some other tequila in small amounts and it created some interesting blends. I think one could mimic a nicer tequila if you blend the right amount of cimarron to arette. Hint would be just a splash of cimmaron bc its very over powering
Hey boss have you ever had real De penjamo? I've never been able to find it here in the states but my mother is from a little Pueblo bordering tequila Jalisco so I she brings me back a bottle or 2 a few times a year when she visits. Also here in Texas I can only get the arette that's like $160 I can't seem to find the bottle snowed in your videos but I'm on the lookout.
hey mate, new to tequila here...and hard to get all the brands that you featured here...only JC, Espolon, Heradura, Don Julio, 1800, Codigo & Patron. My question is which one is the best and should I go for blanco first, anejo or reposado? Will be mainly consumed sips or shots..
Out of the options you gave me there, there isn't anything amazing. Tho Patron and Código are additive free. I'd probably go with Código out of those options. And I'd go with Blanco or Repo for sipping. But that also depends
@@Lui_Fern Thanks for the reply. I shortlisted to Espolon Blanco / Reposado or Codigo Blanco / Reposado. Still have no idea which best for both sipping and shots for the money.
I stumbled onto Olmeca at Meijer years ago and can comfirm its VERY good. Unfortunately I can't find it there anymore, just like my local Kroger stopped carrying cane-sugar-based grenadine syrup (I'll have to make my own since I have too much self respect to use Rose's with HFCS and fake flavors). As soon as Kroger finds out you like something, they immediately stop carrying it and replace it with a really cheap substitute
Funny, I was watching the video and thinking of dropping a comment how Cimmaron is another one that is worth checking out. It's a bit more expensive but it's 1 liter bottles, not 700 ml, so per volume it's a pretty good deal. And it's great, 100% agave and all. Cheers!
Idk about the reposado but the espolon blanco wasnt very good. Id get the olmeca altos. The espolon had a more alcohol burn to it. A bartender told me to get espolon but something tells me she doesnt even appreciate tequila, she probably justs drinks vodka.
@Lui_Fern did you try rooster rojo? Curious what you think. As Im new to tequila, bought it, it has similar rating to olmeca altos, but i cant say i liked it. Thinking to buy Olmeca altos reposado next, hoping to feel difference. But any thoughts would be helpful

You’re not wrong, but truthfully you can most likely tell if a tequila is additive free by just tasting it. This guy has a lot of experience with tequila so it’s up to you wether you trust his palate or not… also if you pour some tequila on your hand and rub it in like when you’re washing your hands, if your hands become dry afterwards and the tequila maintains it’s consistency it’s most likely additive free, however if your hands become sticky and the tequila starts to feel like syrup, there is most likely additves
