I work in a big liquor store. These brands are not very popular, while bad celebrity tequila sells like crazy. Sad. The staff buys these bottles all the time.

That's marketing, you're paying for the name and whatever else that brings along with it's status. To be honest, I feel like MOST people aren't even remotely close to being in the know about Tequila, much less anything else that's advertised to them in any realm of any product. lol That's the entire point about marketing, if you aren't passionate about a product you'll always likely try the first thing that pops out at you.

I have Cimarron blanco and love it one of the best under $30 bottles you can have. I think it captures the wonderful Agave taste very well. My go to right now is LALO not for drinks as it's $50 but such a great tequila.

I just finished a bottle of Lalo, so good! I’m currently using tapatio for cocktails which I also highly recommend! Thanks for watching!

I’ve been using Cimarron at work for a while. Does the job since the only thing I use it for is mixing. Will check out the Altos on the next run. Cheers Pete!

Uncle Pete doing all the hard detective work so we don't have it. Great battle series concept. Thanks for sharing good mixing options.
I live in SoCal so we have access to many Tequila brands. I like both of the brands in your head-to-head in mixing specs. Cimmaron is well priced. Sale prices on Olmeca Altos get really attractive ($14 pre-inflation). I also mix with Pueblo Viejo, Arette (not the high priced line) and Espolon (another "big company" brand that you will find on sale, $14 pre-inflation).
In tequila forward cocktails I like to mix with Tapatio made by Carlos Camarena (El Tesoro & Ocho). Clean agave flavor, great juice, Mexican heritage, great value. A little tougher to find, but merits a try if you can get your hands on it. It use to come in 1L bottle which made it an unbelievable buy, cut down to 750ml for the same price recently.

Have you been to Old Town Tequila in San Diego? Supposed to be epic.
Ocho and El Tesoro are great, I have not had Tapatio in a while but I should try to get some because that sounds perfect for stirred drinks. Thanks for the tip! I will take a look for it,.
I never really liked Pueblo Viejo for whatever reason but I LOVE Arette,
Thanks for watching and Commenting! Cheers!

@@UnclePete Old Town Tequila - the mecca of tequila in the US. Lot of hard-to-find quality bottles. Make sure you empty out your trunk when you visit. And stop off at Hi-Times if you drive by Costa Mesa.

+1 for Tapatio! Recently upgraded from Cimarron when I finished that bottle and agree with al s.' assessment. $35 for 750ml here in NYC (Astor). Also picked up a bottle of Arette Blanco which is surprisingly good for the price ($25/750ml, also at Astor) -- great value mixer. (PS PETE, great vid, floating bottles AND explosions, love it)

Great video Pete!! Hey for mixing there is no need for a higher end Tequila. Like Rob, Espolon is a common Tequila that I purchase. It's available and easy to find and not bad. For sipping and for a Tequila Martini I love Teremana - really lovely. Right now I am on a Mezcal kick. I wish Vancouver had more of selection of both spirits. Some private spirit stores have a pretty decent selection. Love the drinks you tried and the comparisons!! Great work!! Cheers!! :-)

Espolon is not bad, Campari makes it, nothing amazing, but a good mixer, kinda like the Altos in that way. Cheers!

Nice battle! Dulce Vida and El Jimador are my go-to blanco tequilas for making margaritas. I looked them both up on Tequila Matchmaker and they seem to like the Dulce Vida a lot more. I may have to do my own battle between them to see if I can tell a difference. I'm no tequila connoisseur.
Nice to see a couple more affordable brands to try if I see them.

    • @UnclePete
      @UnclePete  2 роки тому

I believe El Jimador is made with a diffuser, which is considered to be bad. Do a battle!

    1. Nice shirt! Is the cat letting everyone know it's the biggest book store there is?
    2. Digging the two label types on the super lime bottle.
    3. My go to budget tequila is lunazul.

      1. The cat says "I'm your father" LOL
      2. ha I made super lemon the week before, but didn't want to make a new label. I'm lazy!
      3. I've never tried that one, but I looked it up, it is high pressure autoclave, and roller mill, in a stainless still, so a pretty industrial one. Not super highly rated either, so you might consider a battle of your own!
      Cheers Ryan!!

Love the Olmeca and Cimarron. One of the only reasons I go with cimarron is because it’s a liter at the same price the Olmeca is for a 750ML. Can’t beat it but outside of that I love both blancos. Especially for cocktails. Both make for phenomenal Palomas.
