- The big(ger) brother is here: The Wacom Cintiq 22! I will unbox and review the new tablet system and also review it’s included stand! You will see the setup process as well as a comparison to it's smaller counterpart, which is the Wacom Cintiq 16.
As a professional creative that works in the motion design industry, I am used to be working on multiple Intuos Pro and Cintiq Pro systems. So how does this compare to the Pro lineup and the smaller Cintiq 16? Let’s find out!
(Disclaimer: This is not a paid or sponsored video. I did receive a review unit (which is going back). However I’ve been a Wacom tablet user for over 20 years and I do work with Wacom on creative projects. All the opinions you will hear and see in this video are my own and are made to help.)

Not a big believer in getting started with anything. So I get started with a $1,200 entry level then move up to a $2,000 4K screen. So now I have $3,200 invested for a $2,000 display. For that kind of money I could of had a 32” 4K display. Don’t do entry level anything if this is your business. Buy what you need from the beginning and save lots of money.
Every animator who already has the 22 HD should buy this tablet
4k resolution at this price point would be entirely possible. But it would also eliminate any real 'perks' to the more expensive models. As a professional concept artist of 10 years, I moved to this tablet from the 24hd and I do not miss the higher resolution at all. In fact this is much more convenient. I do not know why anyone would want 4k res on a 22inch monitor, but to each their own. I'm glad wacom finally has a product you can buy without paying an outrageous 'admission fee' into the 'wacom premium', but it really is the only company (thus far) that makes monitor tablets I've found convenient to work with.
I also use an iPad, but that is not without its issues, or outrageous 'admission fees' either, so the cintiq 22 gets a 10/10 considering current state of the monitor tablet market from me.
@@JeroKane I don't really see the need for 2k res on this 22in screen. I'd probably end up upscaling so the UI features are more easily accessible and visible. To each their own though. For me, 2k is something I only use if a monitor is at least 27in, especially if i'm planning on doing work on it. I don't wanna have to squint every time I need to check some UI or text :D
So question here, If I got a monitor that's 4K and seperate from my 22 inch would that change anything? So getting the 24 and up models would be pointless then correct? Or am I still going to have the color gamut issue?
Hello. For sculpting in Zbrush, which is better to take Wacom Cintiq 22 or Wacom Cintiq 16? Now I work on Intuos pro M and 4k monitor. There is also an iPad pro on m2 12.9 inches. I'm concerned about full HD resolution
I feel wacom will release 22 pro so I better wait or maybe saving more money to get 24 pro
I just returned mine to Wacom. The low resolution was too blurry for me. I guess my eyes have become accustomed to 4K resolution. Also, the build quality felt flimsy and flexed during repositioning.
LatinMessiah Can fully understand your point. I feel the same but then again I’m pretty spoiled with the hardware I’m used to.
But one should not forget that there are many artists that either cannot (or will not) afford a higher level and more pricey model or are just happy and don’t need more resolution.
I don’t agree about the build quality though - not as high quality as the Pro versions but still very good.
I returned my 16 and got this one... I’ll probably return it if it seems too blurry... idk why they didn’t at least make this one 1440p
Scragg How’s it working for you right now? I’ve been teetering on the idea of getting either the 16 or 22, but seeing how both are 1080p, and have no laminated display, I’m probably just going to stick to using a desk tablet. Because at least my primary monitor is 4K, and laminated, _and_ has more color space compared to the paltry 72% NTSC Wacom offers.
Beta Sword 22 is great, though I would still go with a 32 if I had the money for it. 1080p seems fine for sketching and animating. But painting can get a bit too blurry to see textures. So I just use my iPad for painting
Beta Sword I feel like if you already have a 4K screen it would be better to go with a pro or a desk tablet however
you can upscaled 2k (for not so much disort)or 4k in nvidia setting custom resolution kinda like 720p tv to 1080p back in the days
Great very detailed video, although I wanted to know if there is any difference in screen behavior, I mean if it feels better parallax wise and lag wise.
what if my laptop does not have a HDMI cable? How can I connect my cintiq 22 to my laptop?
I just got it and I wish the screen wasn’t so blurry my eyes have a hard time adjusting to it tbh
The Best and fast review in UA-cam for Cintiq 22 2019 ever... TY, U help me a Loot!!!
Kirilov Art thank you very much! Very kind of you to reach out and letting me know! Happy new year
"but I guess at this price point it's not possible" what price point though? I don't think you mentionned the price
I hope there will be an ergo stand too
Hankyu Thanks! I do mention it, but I’m saying the € price, which is 999,99€ For US it is $ 1199
@@RobertHranitzky oh my bad, thanks for the answer
Does it has less parallax than its predecessor (cintiq 22 hd)? If it does, i am going to buy it
On point review. Could have discussed pen quality(great), no side screen hotkey clutter (yay), etc.
anzatzi thank you! You’re right, I could have mentioned that indeed. Thank you for your feedback.
Hi , Thank you for the wonderful review! XP-Pen is another brand that has tablets very similar in specs and price to Wacom .
Unlike wacom Cintiq 22 , XP-Pen Artist 22R Pro has hot keys and a touch wheel that can be used with various modes. I personally would go the Artist 22R Pro- it's cheaper, has more functions, and I personally wouldn't invest too much into grand screens.
The 22" is ok if you don't have a very high-res monitor to begin with. I tried the 22", but compared to my 5K mac screen, the Cintiq's detail-to-size level is ridiculous. Swapped it for a 24" pro, that matches my Mac-screen way better. Perfect fit, but t the pro pen 2 doesn't feel so reliable.
whats the difference with the 22hd?
some sources say response time is 22ms some say 25ms. Which is the correct response time?
I’m not sure to be honest, sorry
@Robert Hranitzky: How much difference the parallax between this Cintiq 22 and those laminated display of cintiq alternatives (like the new Huion Kamvas Pro 22 2019 version for example)?
It is difficult to describe in actual numbers or distance. I would say it is noticeably different to the Pro models, but frankly nothing that would keep an artist from doing great work on these. I guess there has to be a difference between this entry level models and the more expensive pro models. Unfortunately I can't compare it to the Huion models as I don't have or use any of these. Hope this helps.
Wacom said it got almost no parallax
baracuda deepsea where does it say that? I only know of reduced parallax.
@@RobertHranitzky i asked them they said it's parallax free or maybe i misunderstood them how accurate is it anyway?
@@RobertHranitzky is it exactly like the wacom 16 or a bit off?
Does it work with an iPad?
Does it work for laptops?
Hi i wonder that can i use only wacom for design or using with a computer is necesserry
All Wacom tablets and displays REQUIRE a computer to work. Wacom tablets are NOT standalone products.
How many out of 10 do you want to give cintiq 22?
Nice review but seriously - the audio levels of voice and music are completely different. I found myself adjusting the volume several times watching this video.
Wacom Cintiq pro 2021 🙏
u diden't answer the question of the title
parcel it and send it to my home😪
Another one who didnt mention the biggest let down: no laminated screen. Doing research must be really hard these days...
Thank you for pointing it out here! You are right, it is not laminated, which results in a larger parallax compared to the Pro models (or to competitor's products that have laminated screens). My initial thought was to talk about parallax instead of screen lamination as this is more techy then talking about the actual distance which probably is more crucial to most of the artists that are interested in this category of tablets. Thanks again for pointing it out!
parallax seems the weak point
go XP-PEN Artist22R Pro Pen Display
How? Wacom have better pen
In terms of price yes, for the rest no.
Voice like olaf a bit
I‘m melting :)
Robert Hranitzky 😂🤗
Your review is mediocre, Looks suspicious
AinaAvata Sorry to hear you don’t like it. What do you find suspicious and what is it you do not like? Thanks for your feedback!
I appreciate you showed how to switch the pen tips! I
Thank you!
