- When you begin to detox your home and swap out products, eventually you get to a point where you’re looking into those bigger items in your home. Specifically, I’m talking about furniture. And the hunt for non-toxic furniture and a non-toxic couch can leave you at a dead end. It seems like if you want a truly safe and non toxic piece it will cost you a second mortgage on your house to get one.
This left me SO frustrated in the sense that I didn’t want to pollute my indoor environment by bringing in toxins with my furniture, but I also didn’t want to spend an exorbitant amount of money on a new non-toxic couch. This left me at a complete standstill on my hunt for non toxic furniture and I had to take a step back.
Frustrated and stuck, it took a mindset shift to get going again. I began to realize that this was just part of the process -- the research part of finding non-toxic products and home items was a part of the healthy lifestyle I wanted for my family. It’s also a part of every plan I write up for my clients. Just because this particular challenge was taking me longer, didn’t mean there weren’t plenty of options out there.
Today I’m excited to share with you some affordable non-toxic couch options and why it matters to your health and your family’s health.

These are all still so expensive…makes me want to just sit on the floor. Or..make my own floor couch out of cotton stuffing and linen fabric, considering all these couches cost around 2,000 at the LOW end
hostly that's what im planing. other cultures do it. I think a metal fouton frame and a organic cotton futon mattress sounds like a good idea in theory
Oh my gosh thanks so much for posting this. Years ago i had my eye on an organic couch but it was $5000. Yikes. Fast forward 10 or 15 years later we still don't have a sofa! We have made do burning through a few "less toxic" cotton futons but those did not hold up over time. But you are so right. I have been determined this year to finally get my sofas. Must have looked at sofas 1000 times. Ikea i love the styles and options and are tempting since they are so affordable. But drat, I cannot make myself go for them because they are made of so many toxic substances that I have strived to avoid since having kids. In the end I really want couches to last, need them to be durable (4 kids!) and comfort is key... But I really need to go non toxic for reals!
I completely agree! Couches that are built with high quality materials can get pricey -- but if they last forever and they're comfortable (and of course toxin free) -- they're worth it in my opinion . 😊
My uncle was an upholsterer for a living and now has Parkinson's. I often wonder. Thanks for posting these.

Thanks for sharing your insight. I appreciate it!
You are a wealth of information! I just purchased an organic mattress a few months ago. But I have t thought about nontoxic furniture til today from an Instagram post. Now I wanted to be more educated and found your video. Thank you so much!
thank you for these info!
I just purchased a new bedroom set from City Furniture....I know...not the highest quality furniture store around. Affordable yes and the design if the furniture looks great. Major issue....I have had the set an entire week now and I cannot even sleep in my bedroom. I am staying on the couch in the living room. The Fumes are horrible, I have a headache, watery eyes and sore throat. I spoke with the store and they told me that this is the first time they have ever heard of this??? (I certainly DON'T believe them ). I was hoping the off gassing would dissipate after a few days, but unfortunately doesn't seem so....I have called the store and they are scheduled to take it back...I am returning everything. BTW. its made in CHINA ....I should have known better. Thanks for the great videos....I just joined today...
That’s so frustrating 😕 Unfortunately this kind of thing happens all the time with home materials and products that appear “high quality”. Welcome! And let me know if you have questions along the way.
What an informative video! I'm only just finding out how many toxins are in couches and other furniture! Thank you for such a comprehensive list of what to look for! I think we're going with a maiden home sofa
.
I'm so glad it was helpful! Thanks for being here!!
What about leathers couches?
Just make sure they are a natural leather with no additional treatment that contains chemicals.
most leather is chrome tanned. the most natural way to use leather is to have something like undyed buckskin which is rare to have
The frustrating part is finding reviews on any of the furniture.
