One of my big goals is to have MOSTLY low toxin furniture in my home. It's one of those goals that for a long time has seemed a bit overwhelming to me -- there's just SO much furniture in my house -- where do you even start?
Plus I'm really in the camp of using things until they absolutely HAVE to be thrown out, which means I'm likely not about to rid my home of perfectly good furniture.
BUT, that doesn't mean that when I'm ready to upgrade that I'll buy just anything. Nope! I have two criteria -- low toxin and a buy-it-for life purchase. I not only want to avoid bringing in as many toxins as possible, but I also recognize that by purchasing something that is higher quality, I can actually avoid the WHOLE process repeating itself again and again.
One of the ways you can actually benefit your healthy home AND take care of the environment is to just buy less stuff. Pretty unpopular, right? But it really is the truth. The less you buy, the less resources are used, the smaller your carbon footprint is (hello, shipping!) and the fewer potential toxins you'll be bringing into your home.
And so while I plan ahead for my future furniture purchases I thought I'd share what I'll be looking for when the time comes.
