If that's too hard for you, here's a simple tip: ask yourself who is dumber, the man who is following someone (even if he considers him as some sort of a god) because of his ideas, arguments or objective points, or the man who will find more rational thinking in the subjective convictions, persuasive sophism and irrational insults addressed to the guy the first man is following.
Not saying Peterson is perfect or that all his detractors are silly, but if you're in the second category of people, maybe you should consider buying yourself a functioning brain...

I've seen a few interviews done with him, in addition to reading a few articles on his scholarship, and he is a reasonably intelligent fellow. I don't agree with everything he says; there isn't anyone with whom I agree 100%. I've never NOT thought for myself, and my intellectual autonomy is something I never intend to surrender. I completed my MBA with Distinction as well as having won an academic prize, I have studied three fields since leaving high school and moved my way up in organisations to the level of a senior manager, which has helped me elevate our family from being relatively poor to somewhat middle class with our own home.

While I do agree soy & BPA plastic to some extent mimics estrogen, the real culprit in lowering testosterone is modern dairy pumped full of chemicals to keep the cows pregnant. Considering it is animal and not plant based it is much easier to badly effect humans.

Yes certainly in his lectures and interviews he's fairly inaccessible to a 'dumb' person. The vocabulary, the pace, the nuance, all objectively high level by established reading/listening standardards. Her arguments are an example of the Dunning Kruger effect.

I agree with your fact. The problem is people think that not allowing words to be used against someone is the same as the government legislating the words you use. Not being allowed to use a word and telling someone to use certain words is a very important point here.

Peterson has done a lot of research on human nature, and has reached many interesting conclusions, a number of which are true and important. But that doesn't mean that he knows everything, or that his own basis for comparison isn't narrowly based on his own cultural background. Some things he says, he's right about, particularly when it comes to study data and clinical experience. But like any intellectual, he tries to figure out conditions that are hard to define, and his speculations are certainly up for debate. And one big point of debate is for people to rethink and test their own arguments, to see if someone else knows something better.
That's one of his 12 Rules for Life: "Assume the person you're talking to knows something you don't."
SupernalOne he admits when he isn’t sure about things though, he knows he doesn’t know everything and also researches other cultures to try to widen his understanding, it just so happens that all cultures have some things in common And he build those things up.
Peterson never did any research at all. That's the reason all of his claims are plain dead wrong and in contrast to the scientific consensus. He is just bragging without any substance to scam the idiots for their money.

I didn't focus on it for a long time. Then I listened to JP who started pointing out the overwhelming ways that IQ predicts many life outcomes. I compared that to the research. Turns out IQ is some of the most robust social science there is. Then I realized there was a group of politically motivated people who try to distort, or give a new definition to, facts and truth. You've fallen into that trap if you think JP's claims aren't the ones scientifically grounded. Other top intellectuals like Haidt, Pinker, Harris and so on are all on the same train: the one actually in the real world. Consider getting aboard.
Reality check: at least 9 of 10 claims Peterson made are blatantly false and completely made up. Peterson is a social-darwinist fascist pulling stupid claims out of his arse all the time. Even his claims about IQ are half-truths blown out of proportion to further his extremist agenda. There is a weak correlation between IQ and income. The term "life outcomes" is plain old snake oil. There is no such a thing. Cause and effect are bound to specific contexts, and they don 't add up to global parameters like "life outcomes". Peterson's claims are extremely stupid. He can't even grasp the concept of specific contexts. His stupid ideas are grounded on Carl Jung's quackery, and rejected by the scientific consensus.

From her description of Peterson's lectures, she probably isn't smart enough to understand - he often speaks about non-trivial things and you have to pay attention.

I implore you to listen to a couple of Dr. Petersons extended interviews rather then rely on a synopsis written by his detractors who cherry pick the odd sentence here and there that are taken far out of context with malicious intent!!! After all racism and sexism is no joke, its a heavy label that should be reserved only for those who propagate it...dont confuse Peterson with that lot...especially without listening to his words with your own ears and deciding for yourself.
I dont know about this sargon character or that styx fellow, im unfamiliar with those 2 - but Peterson himself does not pedal hate speech. But dont take it from me - dont take it from Matt Christiansen - dont use 2nd hand information as the basis to label a person anything, take the time to do your own research and come up with your own conclusions...Peterson has valid points and while I dont agree with everything he says I can say without hesitation he does not spread hate ...or even the undertones of anything that resembles homophobia, racisim and the rest of it....its just not present in his messege and this is coming from an immigrant of the trans community...
Peterson has a messege worth listening to for those willing to hear him out - skip the middlemen/spindoctors hearsay - go listen for yourself and make up your own conclusions...
Sorry, I hope you didn't get the wrong impression! I'm familiar with Jordan B. Peterson and his body of work. I've watched many of his lectures on UA-cam. Thank you though. I appreciate the advice, it's always good to hear, and I would definitely agree that someone should always try to form their own opinions on a subject, rather than develop an understanding through second or even third-hand sources. I'd implore anyone reading this to take it on board, as it really is something important in our modern age, where most of the news you hear is distorted through biased lenses. Critical thinking goes a long way!
My comment was mainly referring to the fact that through Matt I became aware of these hit pieces, and I was praising his level-headed approach to examining them.
I agree with your comments about racism and sexism as well. These terms are being diluted by their constant and uninhibited use, and the fact that people use them to describe someone like Jordan B. Peterson is a great example of that.

@orlando pelletier That is the actual fundamental problem with Peterson what makes him the smart person for idiots he doesn't make actual points. He makes statements but he never actually makes a cogent point with a position. That is the reason why to get to his actual points his actual position you need to combine multiple separate instances of him talking about a subject and build a long term trend of implications.
And whenever you do he can just claim he didn't say that because to be honest he didn't but he also never really taken a stance on anything while still using it to put down a ideological base. A base he as such has never actually defended and expect you to create in your mind from your already existing biases so when you try and attack it you end up attacking a ghost.
The few times he does say things in a real sense they tend to be obviously wrong like how he often misrepresents the concept of jing and jang to fit in his own broken concept of order and chaos.
He is most akin to woo peddlers that never really tell you the things their products or based on and when they do it's obvious that it's bullshit but they spend a lot of time making it sound good.

It's important to note that these journalists, especially ones that only make the rounds online, are hacks. Most them don't even know the bare minimum about ethical practices in journalism and eschew real news for op ed pieces that allow them to write slanted, impassioned, invective that's wonderful for clickbait and pop-corn entertainment but woefully bereft of anything useful. There is a particularly loathsome sort that wants all the trappings, prestige, and recognition of a hard-hitting investigative journalist but when challenge on their apparent lack of ethics or even writing ability will hunker down behind "I'm a blogger, not a journalist" to absolve themselves of any shoddy "reporting" or obvious hit pieces. They are, without a doubt, some of the most middling, self-loathing, creatures and living monuments to mediocrity. I have no idea what mantra they have to repeat to themselves each day to keep the curtain drawn on the realization that they are completely irrelevant, but maybe they should direct some of their energy towards writing self-help books that allow others to be successful enough to self-publish their own self-help book.

Sargon is actually much less of a critical thinker than one might think. The way he constructs strawman arguments against religion and his outright refusal to learn about it and engage it nullifies his intelligence in other areas. I refuse to listen to him anymore, because anyone that is that intellectually dishonest and lazy about one subject, will be about others as well.

Jordan Peterson's videos basically ripped me out of my EGO and launched me from drone status to artist last year. He helps overly kind people pleaser to understand that they have to have teeth.. In short, he is a Christ like figure - way overly celebrated even if hes got a few interesting things to state or question, his voice has become your minds moral centre. To me that shows you are still misguided under the notion you need guidance to overcome your apparent lack of self worth, which you diagnose to yourself as because youre one of the people in which 'being a toothless people pleaser' in life generally was your bain, which he has apparently saved you from being. But your gratifying pleasure at sending a famous professor your money is you pleasing him which is your business, but see it only adds a new dimension to the people pleasing that is directly making you feel more worthy as a human being as a result. You only changed the feedback to give you an instant hit of making a difference, by the acceptance of: this is who validates you and so im helping him be there to give that validation every time a new video comes on UA-cam. Its textbook psych 101 in addicting somebody willingly, almost. He isnt my contention, but unquestionable following to achieve validation is is never a good thing en masse. Ironically many of his fans wll be non religious and regard him as some principal moral beacon of absoloute truth. Not only is that dumb but tragically sad as the very man in his videos clearly has a theme in his approach that he fundamentally wont deal in absoloutes because they hinder free thought and full conceptual freedom of the individual. The moral Messiah he is not. Hes a thinker, yes, but thats all. You dont need validation, thats an act of submission. Submitting is you entering a hierarchical established group, in your case, and please forgive me, 'The Validated by Peterson' and it is such a trap, and a self imposed one. That is my contention. I also love how Tabitha believes the back of a women’s fashion magazine has the same value as a comprehensive psychological exam and analysis of your personality based on the big five traits split into 10 subsets...I know the two are no where near comparable and I’m in high school Psych. I actually want to take the test as well since it really shows what social traits you give off and you can begin to find better fits in career and in relationships by understanding yourself better and where you are driving people off or over valuing things. The best a magazine can do is entertain you on subjective fashion sense or arbitrary mannerisms that do nothing to reflect your personality.

Honestly, I would highly recommend taking it, it was well worth the ten bucks for me. Especially if you're interested in psychology. It helped me a lot, much better than any other personality test I've ever taken.
