Derrick Thompson is now in federal custody
The man accused of killing five young women in a horror Minneapolis car crash back in June of last year is now being held in federal custody.
Derrick John Thompson, son of the namesake former state representative John Derrick Thompson (DFL-St. Paul), was arraigned on December 18 on federal gun and drug charges arising from that same June crash.
Records show that he was released from Hennepin County jail on the morning of the 18th and appeared in federal court later that afternoon. He was arraigned on three counts that arose from a post-crash search of his rented Cadillac Escalade, that uncovered a Glock pistol and bags of fentanyl pills, among other items of interest.
He was taken into federal custody following his arraignment and is now being held in the Sherburne County jail. His latest mugshot

the speed that car was at while in the air screams 100mph at the start of the off ramp on i94....darwin tried to award them, pity it wasn't automatic.
