One girl broke her pelvis and a boy broke his leg and the others suffered non life treathening injuries. Its sad how this happened but i love that the second the bus crashed the students were helping each other escape
The boy broke his femur.....the most painful bone if broken.....can't imagine the pain he felt.

@@ventaliq funny story about Burquens and how they are: Two boys were standing at a bus stop leaning towards the road. They saw me heading towards them on a one-way street. They looked the other way (i dont know why since its a one-way street), then looked at me, then looked the other way again and right when i was a few feet of them, they ran onto the road. I slammed my breaks. (and caused damaged) The closest boy's eyes widened then his face wrinkled up like an old man accepting his fate. My car stopped about 10 feet from him, he snapped out of it and judt trotted of with his friend like nothing happened....that's the typical mindset of a Burque....maybe too much sun, 4700 feet elevation causing lack of oxygen to the brain, under aged drinking and drug taking, and while pregnant. A good mixer of all that. 🤷♂️

Thankfully, the majority of them were sitting down when it happened, and the car didn't manage to breach into the bus and landed on any of them.
They may not have seat belts, but buses can take a hit. Definitely should still have seat belts, though.

The girl in the third to last row saw what was coming first. I can’t imagine her feeling seeing the vehicle speed towards them while everyone didn’t notice until it was too late. I’m so sorry they had to go through this.

I didn't see the vehicle that hit the vehicle mom and I were in I had my eyes closed the whole time the major casualty was the vehicle that hit us literally tore his car up to the radiator and made us do a 180 to the other side of the road a blind spot because of the stupid idiots who put cones not far enough away that you could see either way literally trucks could barely see over and around them so imagine what a low to the ground vehicle was like though honestly he should have gotten the ticket as he hit the backside of our vehicle it ended up with a broken axle as for human casualty mom had a cracked collarbone or sternum can't remember I walked away with bruises and soreness for a few weeks after that took about 2 months for me to stop having bad headaches my sinuses didn't like that I had breathe in the stuff from the airbag my face was literally covered in also a piece of the airbag hit me in the check I learned quickly when that started burning to put ice to forehead and it or else migraine like headaches couldn't walk for a few days afterwards because felt like someone was pinching the tops of my feet so hard deep bruising on both feet and caused a reaction to where I had broke my foot the other driver I have no clue but he apparently hurt his hand

This is why school busses should have seatbelts
One of the reasons why they don’t is because of accidents like this in the bus caught fire before and kids could not get out of the seatbelt. That is why the rule is sitting in your seat staying in your seat. It really sucks. Majority of the school buses across the United States are made where I live and we have asked the same question. Majority of those that make the school buses are family members or neighbors and friends so we know they will put care into the buses when it comes to fire. That’s a whole Nother subject.
Totally agree. I'm tired of hearing the old arguments of whatabout fire, whatabout water, etc. These are the exact same arguments people made before seat belts were required in cars.
The fact is that with the ludicrously high speed limits compared to 30-40 years ago, children unbuckled in slow moving busses are in greater danger than ever from 70+ mph traffic around them. The risk of serious injury due to physical trauma is far greater than the off chance of a fire or submersion in water.

@@hotsoup1001 Pretty sure at that velocity and from that angle, more of the impact would be absorbed into their bodies furthering injury with a seat belt. Without it the remaining force from the impact is able to continue beyond their body and thus reduce internal damage even if their bodies fly off a bit

The one kid shattered their pelvis. Thats one of the most painful injuries you can sustain... and it's a long and difficult recovery. I'd rather break both legs than break my pelvis..I partially dislocated my hip while hiking.. I can't even describe the pain. It took my breath away and I couldn't scream. I hike and climb A LOT.. so I've had injuries.. it's just part of the game.. but that pain in my pelvis was indescribable.. like nothing else I've ever been through

My friend was on that bus, she told me it was a miracle she saw the glass shatter about to hit her temple of her head, luckily it didn’t but she got injured and I’m thankful everyone is safe.

as someone who rides the school buss this has always been a horrible fear of mine and its almost happened before. Our school buss has seatbelts but the students have absolutely no care in the world and don't put them on not caring about their own safety even though I use the seatbelts but I get made fun of for it.
I’m 26 now but I used to get made fun of for wearing them in high school my mom was an assistant on a special needs bus the things they don’t tell/show you is audio on the school busses one time she was working and a call came over the radio of a bus crash you could hear the kids screaming because the bus flipped upside down
That seatbelt will keep you in place during a crash instead of you becoming a trajectory
My mom also lost 11 friends in 5 years (almost an average of two a year) from reckless driving and not wearing seatbelts

Actually not true, the construction of busses has been safe further back than the seventies. One big safety improvement was the addition of a cage around the fuel tanks. There are built in roll bars in the passenger compartment and it has corrugated steel siding that the "Jaws of Life" have a difficult time removing. The school bus still remains one of the safest vehicles on the road. I've driven a bus for decades and have taken rescue company courses in the fire department, they are awesome vehicles.

My bus at one point had to have 3 kids per seat, most of us sitting thigh to thigh in an aisle. Living where the drivers are awful all i was thinking about was that if we crashed, we would be in serious trouble.

I’m scared every time I ride the school bus. Last year, my bus driver drove very aggressively. He frequently honked at other drivers, and changed lanes, with the bus swerving around. One time he almost missed a stop sign and slammed on the brakes really hard. Had neck pain after that. I take the car to school now, never the bus.

I have asked this many times, why don’t school buses have seat belts? Greyhound buses do/ air planes do/ it’s required for every other automobile to have them so why not school buses?

After that, the bus driver and 7 students were sent to the hospital for their injuries. 2 of the children required surgery 1 for the injuries to their legs and 1 with a pelvic fracture.
