As Triton owner of the last three generations with not an issue, they are a great reliable truck. I drop my oil myself every 6 months and dealer does it at 12 months for warranty purposes regardless of klms money in the bank with Castrol 5w30 C3. Bullet proof drive train. Money was not my issue when buying a ute it was knowing what i was getting.
I'm surprised by some of the negative comments but it's true if you don't take care of any vehicle it's gonna have issues, and as for design, it's subjective because different people like different things. Triton has been around since the 1970's and for good reason, it's really tough, it's reliable and has an excellent and unique 4WD system. I know of someone who's owned the past four generations of Triton and he's about to upgrade to the all new generation and that tells me a lot. Also my son owns this shown model, and for the past two years he's not had any issues at all, not even with multimedia system, not yet anyway. Our personal experiences have been very good and the same can be said for our local Mitsubishi dealership. Those that are threatened are haters, so haters are gonna hate. Nothing frightens a ( humble ) Triton Nothing pretentious here, no tarted up Rangers, or overpriced and very old Hilux's either.
I work at a dealership that sell Toyota and Mitsubishi! They sell more Mitsubishi due to the fact that they are much cheaper than the Toyota equivalent but are still a great car/ute and are very capable off road. Their warranties are better than Toyota also. Same goes for Mitsubishis smaller cars, the dealership sells more ASX and Outlander than what Toyota sells Yaris and Corolla! Mitsubishi has always been a good brand.
Finally, thanks for saying what I and most smart unbadged people have known all along. 4x4 ute are these days, mostly very good and yes still some crappy things to deal with. All are capable. I am sick to death of toyota fanboys/girls talking horseshite. Mitsubishi has always made a very good product.
Interesting to hear the issues of cracked heads etc - I work in mining and we started switching to Tritons about 18 months ago as our existing Toyotas have needed replacing, mainly because it was taking much longer and costing too much to get hold of Toyotas (LCs and Prados), while the Triton could be sourced and fitted out to mine spec pretty quickly and cost effectively. Because we operate in a hyper aggressive environment (heat, tropical, mud, coastal, extreme terrain) we don't keep LVs all that long (accelerated corrosion the big killer). So far the reports on the Triton have been solid but will be watching to see if we get any premature mechanical issues emerging before they reach their expected hours cut-off.
I have the MR glx for my work vehicle. Absolute amazing vehicle for the price, highly recommended for the value price point. Just don't tow heavy things unless you plan on getting a tune done. I replaced the brakes as the factory ones where too squealy. Also grab a throttle controller and upgrade the cooler hoses to silicone ones
Had my 22 GLS since new. I absolutely love it, it’s traction control system is fantastic off road and it’s a nimble mountain goat on the tough tracks. Only negatives are the headlights are definitely shit and it’s a bit laggy down low. It’s solid on road but more impressive off road. I’ve driven most 4x4 Utes and the triton is definitely no disappointment.
I also have a 22 GSR, now with about 60,000km. I have experienced some of the issues highlighted. My sunglass holder has already been replaced under warranty. The paint is not too bad but it does scratch easily. I tow a caravan on road trips. My caravan has a GVM of 2.5t but it was weighed at 2.3t with all our gear in it. The Triton weighed 2.5t with 2 adults on board and all the gear. It tows okay but i wouldn't tow anything heavier despite the 3.1t tow rating. The rear shocks had to be replaced at 45,000km and I am about to fit stronger rear spring despite being well under weight specs. Mechanically, it has been very reliable and Mitsubishi have been great to us. We also have a 2010 Pajero with 370,000km with no issues. We have owned it since new and my wife won't let it go. Hopefully, the Triton will last as long as the Pajero.
You should test cars on the freeway to talk about overtaking ability and suspension comfort at high speeds, as that is a different thing compared to around town.
As an Ex mitsubishi tech. Yeah the infotainment is shit but if you think the SDA2 (as shown) is bad the covid fitted Mi-Display is worse, the sunglasses holder is usually covered by warranty for premature failure and the auto locking can be disabled with a standard scan tool but just ask the dealer nicely. My pick of Tritons is anything post October 2020 when they had the 10/10 warranty, just make sure services have been done on time and mileage by a dealer.
I drove one as a work car, wasnt terrible however i found the brakes to be really squeaky and the phone connectivity with a cord was really hit and miss. The air conditioning in south australias summer, is boderline non existant and the interior space could easilly be used by dominos to bake pizzas for the 45 minutes it takes for the AC to cool the vehicle on 40+ degree day. The headlights, i swear to god the low beams on a MR triton are the equivalent of the parkers on my BA falcon, just useless, and in the country / rural areas, downright dangerous. You will need spotties added that have a low/high mode, and at least 4 of them. Do not tow anything over 1.5 tonnes. Their "towing ability" is grossly exaggerated. My car trailer with a car on it, can barely be pulled down a flat 50 zone street with an MR. My Ba falcon will tow it at 90kmh effortlessly (proper big power motor in the falcon, unlike the MRs matchbox 4 cyl with a turbo small enough for a chainsaws engine)
A mate bought one new. He'd had two L200's and a Hilux prior, I'd had three. They were good. His new one had the trans fail, replaced under warranty. He lost faith in Mitsi after that and now has...a Gladiator of all things. RIP Nissubishinault, it was great while it lasted.
I have a 22 GSR and love it. A close friend of mine also bought one at the same time. Love them. I'll agree about the paint and headlights, a bit poor. I disagree about the head unit though, never had a problem. I love the ride. For work (a tradie) in the last 12 months I've had a D max (hated it, and the head unit was so bad I actually backed into something because the screen was so dim I couldn't see behind me), a new Triton (yep. Loved it just like my own), and recently I've started a new job that has given me a Hilux, and I don't hate it, but I'm not really fussed with it either. It's just a ute. But again, the head unit is pretty crap.
I have had my MR for just two years now from new, I do love it. Is it perfect?...most definitely not. The only real issue I have is the seats, I have the VRX and on a long journey the seats kinda killed my back a bit. I have actually been thinking about trying to retrofit some Pajero sport front seats as they are way more plush, comfortable and seem more "luxurious". Do I Recommend this ute, undeniably yes!👍👍
I was looking at these at a dealer the other week for around 39-40k for a 2022 with 40xxkms seemed nice but i spotted a 2021 Dmax with 69xxkms for 40k as well and went with the Dmax Base SX dmax dual cab has all the features + headunit system is awesome, it even came with long range fuel tank, spotties, steelbar, 6 speed auto, UHF i either got lucky or there is something wrong with it! but after a week of hwy driving its going bloody awesome
So out of the Navara and the Triton which would you choose for a daily drive/family car Bear in mind the thing I like about the Triton is the super select as launching a boat on a slippery boat ramp at load tide all four wheels would help
Mitsubishi Triton is the best value because it is beauty futuristic advance Technology no challenge by rivals Utes in rally off-road competition championship Mitsubishi always number One winner
Mitsubushi no longer trade here in the UK, shame because the L200 and shogun/Pajero were well regarded work horses. Do you get the Ssang Yong (KGM) Musso or Rexton in Oz, likely worth a review? These seem good value, and a lot of the few owners in the UK seem to like them, although parts cost can be high with long lead times. They are not common here due to badge snobbery and lack of awareness. Ssang Yong or KGM as they are known now can take the place of Mitsubushi here if they are wise with marketing.
Had one of these for 3 years. Great money for the price, definitely very.... agricultural feel to them. Had intake manifold gasket and intercooler o-rings replaced, but then it cracked a head at 73k. Sold it a short time after.
Across the ditch here, My old man had one of these bought for him by his Last job before retiring. So it was his towing vehicle for moving portable rooms/cabins. It was "Ok" - but he Hated the infotainment (but boomer, so take that with a grain of salt) the headlights sucked, and the ac wasn't great on hot days.
Mine fogs up the windscreen unless I run the AC at all times. The infotainment doesn't work right. Mitsubishi want me to film it intermittently failing while I drive somehow.
You need to have the rear AC roof vents wide open, and the rear fans on max for the general AC to not be terrible, it will still take 45 minutes to get anywhere on a hot day
Had a 2022 GSR. Nimble to drive. Good cornering too. The 4wd system is excellent. However it’s too puny compared the rest. Thinner sheet metal, thin paint, thinner mechanical component(lighter too). In general the cheaper price is reflected by the materials they used. However like I said, the engine and driveline is top notch. Just not the rest.
Back in 2007 I purchased an ML Triton, basing my decision on price and specifications. I drove all the other brands and the short list was Triton and Hilux. I went with the Triton because I considered it to be almost as good as the Hilux for 75% of the cost. I purchased and fully kitted out my Triton with bar work front and back, canopy, roof rack, suspension and tyres for the same price as purchasing a SR5 Hilux. I Had the Triton for 10 years and had no problems. The ML had the shorter tub so it had much less rear overhang and this was the only reason I never replaced it with another MQ or MR Triton….the wheelbase just looks too short for the tub. The only thing I didn’t like about my ML was steering wheel kickback on rough roads.
Different vehicles for different uses some reviewers seem to forget that.Just buy a Pajero Sport if you want a more comfortable ride. As for customer service I can't fault them they found 2 minor issues and fixed them and then advised me on pick up.
I used to buy a new Ute every 2 years but since buying my MR Triton I’ve had it for 5 years and don’t plan on selling it anytime. I also paid 39k for it (GLS) the same Ute or equivalent Ute these days is around 55k 😢
Had a 2006 GLX-R V6 petrol...had it for 18 years did 190000 kms in it.never missed a beat but I was all over the servicing. appears same issues still round though...paint was crap,, (fading) sunglass holder was crap. Front seats were uncomfortable (flat) and no leg room in the rear...but loved it and miss it.
Ranger drivers just follow the sheep (and think they’re driving American F150’s lol), Hilux drivers have more money than sense, Navara the pretty townie putting a toe in the staunch market….triton always been the underdog but dosent hide it, and ya gotta kinda love it for that. Me….i drive the only Ute more hated than anything the Chinese could ever do, a X350. Cue the shit throwing lol PS…how about a review of the W126 in the background of the workshop
I've been selling these utes since... well, since inception. The head units aren't nearly as bad as you make out. Don't get me wrong, they have a high failure rate and could definately be better, but suggesting you'll just have to replace it regardless is a bit harsh.
Curvature on vehicle roofs and hence on the tops of A-pillars, which flow into the roof, are there for structural strength. Not to mention the fact that a sharp angled join from the A-pillar into the roof will probably look like crap, à la that cyber truck thing.
I was sitting in the back seat of a ranger the other day, I am short my knees were touching the front seat. Also my Triton is 4 years old sunglasses case is fine
Quite an informative video today guys and plenty of laughs to be had as well. You forgot to add that that "tan" colour is also found on fictional chocolate workers and criminal politicians 😂. In all honesty out of all the utes you've reviewed so far guys the Mahindra is the one that really grab my attention and looked like value for money. The safety features overview today would cure insomnia lol 😂. Good work as always guys and look forward to Sunday's video as per usual 👍.

We have a 22 GLS. We like the car, but not the service department. This is going to be a long comment. The car is generally fine, suits our needs of moderate off-road, towing a 2.5t van cross country most of the time. Good value for money is the main reason we bought one, then no wait time during COVID the second, super select II 4X4 the third, 10yr warranty is AMAZING (you will see). The performance is a bit down on other Utes, but like I said "it meets our needs most of time". Then there was one time it did not. We had a trip to Jindabyne last summer towing our 2.5t van departed from Melbourne. It struggled going up steep hill towing our 2.5t van, not that there wasn't enough power to pull, but rather the factory cooling system is not adequate to handle prolonged higher revs (3000rpm) at lower speed (40km/h) in hot weather (30C+). You really need to keep an eye on the temp and prepare to pull over and stop at a suitable spot. The temp will go up soon, and once it reads just one notch below the overheating red zone, you need to pull over immediately, at that point the coolant is already at boiling point. We did stop once to let the engine cool down then continued without further problems. To be fair, it is not the car's fault, just it is not designed to continue prolonged heavy usage in harsh conditions. In term of quality, a bit hit and miss, some electrical issues with parking sensors and cameras, they still work, just a bit temperamental some times. In term of dealer service, SHXXXT, that's all I can say (Yep, I'm going to start). We had two annual services so far, done at a dealer in the western subs of Melbourne. First time, leaked diesel over half the engine bay (yes, the diesel filter was changed, but still it shouldn't have diesel over almost half the engine bay, even on the engine cover and firewall, especially the filter is easy to access at top left corner), then I found a forgotten screw driver left next to the engine (0_0), last the service report stated brake flush with new brake fluid which I highly doubted because all four bleeding screw caps appeared to be untouched, still covered in dust and road grime (maybe there is another way of bleeding brakes without touching the bleeding screws?????). Second time, service was ok, but we had a warranty repair on those intercooler hoses (leaking !!!!!! Yeah!) which went bananas. Right after getting car back from dealer, we went for an overnight trip, as I accelerated down a freeway entry ramp, a loud fan blowing noise suddenly appeared. Then car lost power, engine would not accelerate past 1500rpm, put foot down accelerator, big wind blowing noise, engine cut back to idle when hit 1500rpm. Luckly there was an exit not far, and it was down hill, I made a split second decision to get off freeway, cut cross in front of a police bike to get off, limp home (engine could not go pass 1500rpm, can slowly accelerate to about 50km/h). Once home, opened bonnet , straightaway, I can see the post intercooler hose had popped off (0_0), it was not tightened properly. It is scary even to look back at those few seconds. We could had a serious accident, basically we were a sitting duck in 80km/h traffic going down hill. Called dealer to complain, only offered a few hundred dollars store credit (Seriously Mitsubishi? Offer rejected). Now I'm seriously considering to never step inside a Mitsubishi Service centre again. Forget the 10yr warranty, I might not last longer than that if they keep stuffing up.
Auto stop? Driver monitoring? Not sure what you mean here. I have a 23 XTreme and there is no auto stop nor any driver monitoring. Lane assist and collision warnings are passive, not active and can be turned off. You sure you not thinking of the new model just released?
You get what you pay for - ranger is good, engine unreliable. Navara - rubbish, hilux - plain jane. Triton - cheap, reliable, nothing special but doesn't put a foot wrong, everything you need nothing you dont, 10 year warranty, super select 4 wheel drive, im sold.
I was under the impression the MQ and MR have the same engine? So why in the MQ video, the triton apparently has almost no major mechanical issues but the MR does?
The honest answer? The MQ was perhaps the 4th video we ever did. There’s been about 250 videos since then, which is 250 chances to get better at researching etc. Plenty of our earlier vids deserve a re-do. And we will, in due time.
@@ReDriven thank you for your reply :) that makes sense. I wasn’t sure if they made some subtle changes in the MR that resulted in some more major problems. Time is always the best test of any vehicle so it’s very much understandable that more issues have become known now. I appreciate and respect the effort you both put into your videos, a real change from the sponsor paid crap we get feed from everyone else.
I like the triton it does well in a lot of areas! But for overall cost I’d buy a D23 Navara post 2018 so you get the series 3 coil suspension in the rear that just gives you such a comfortable car like drive rather than feeling like a Ute.
90% of problems with Triton are caused by the owners attitude towards their cars. It’s a light off-road vehicle. Expecting it to win a drag race at the lights, or do a winch challenge is just dumb. And bolting a heap of shit to it doesn’t make it any better able to do those things. What it does do is make you look like a flog and gives Mitsubishi the perfect excuse to deny any warranty claims.
Interesting Video, given the potential issues highlighted with the engine, do the same issues occur on the MQ? I don't remember these issues being brought up on that review, but both platforms share the same drive line / engine (4N15). ua-cam.com/video/g3Ev4cCbQ2c/v-deo.html for reference.
Very, very strange driving position. I find myself with my left knee kind of scrunched into the transmission tunnel and my body all crooked. Build quality isn't great. Nothing but problems with the infotainment system. Carplay works intermittently. Mitsubishi demands I take video of it failing while I drive somehow. Auto braking system seems to regard steep hills as cars. Pretty crap car. Oh, and the sunglass holder won't close. Car has 30 thou on it.
@@rileyrichards844 Yeah, this car has a ton of little things wrong that add up to failure. There is no space in it. I'm just off 6 feet tall and can't seem to find room for my left leg while driving. Rear seats barely fit my kids. The windscreen fogs up constantly. The rear window demister takes forever. It hasn't locked up the brakes on me yet, but I get warnings from dips in the road, and I've heard a mate of mine almost headbutted the windscreen while driving up a curb. Pretty unimpressed. Spend a bit more and get a good car I reckon.
Can these cars stop be3ing referred to as ‘utes’ they are trucks. Utilities stopped being made or imported to Australia around 2017. Every example Redriven gives an are giant oversized trucks. Love the show.
Been to the USA they don’t have utilities probably because the drivers found they don’t need fit in them. Oversized and useless trucks. Like most Australians. We have fallen into being pseudo Americans. Buy a VT/VU Holden utility the HQ of this century then you have everything needed in a car and real ‘utility’.

Yes, my elbow hates it. I saw a window pad you can purchase as a rest which might solve it…. Not a deal breaker but annoying.

Hilux drivers and Ranger drivers have the worst rep. Can't go lower.
Havent seen a snapped chassis on an MQ or MR Triton ever so thats nonsense.
Exactly the same story here. (But I've not had any steering kickback)
Different vehicles for different uses some reviewers seem to forget that.Just buy a Pajero Sport if you want a more comfortable ride. As for customer service I can't fault them they found 2 minor issues and fixed them and then advised me on pick up.
Yep, had the mn triton for 13 yrs and 250k. It was bloody good and a bit shit. Loved it.😊
MR Triton Australian model tested here in 2023 new generation they have now .
I used to buy a new Ute every 2 years but since buying my MR Triton I’ve had it for 5 years and don’t plan on selling it anytime. I also paid 39k for it (GLS) the same Ute or equivalent Ute these days is around 55k 😢
I went with a GWM, pretty much for price reasons. Can’t say I’m disappointed though, it’s doing everything I bought a dual cab to do
How long have you had it for?
@@Peterdecz about 6 months and 15000km
Cue the shit throwing lol
PS…how about a review of the W126 in the background of the workshop
Couldnt agree more on the head unit, first thing i got changed.
Best ute for the money
Bottom 💩box feeder
Or the Navara

Can you guys please do a review on the C Class W204? 🙂
I hope they improved the turning circle and turbo lag
The turning circle on the MR dual cab is brilliant!
Thank you for this video RD.
Ooh I think I know who owns that Triton. Top bloke.
I own one. Awesome
Mitsubishi L200 & Strada other markets the Triton 2006 Colt Colt Radiant is still in production Ford Triton Strada bus in South Africa & Fiat Strada halton bakkie 2018 limited edition model Mitsubishi Triton Athlete .
The infotainment works great, the stero is great
I like the idea of a 4G63 Triton
Back to the future, daily driver here is 4G63 powered 1985 L200 4WD!!!😂😂😂
The paint does scratch really easy. Other than that mine has been a great car
The front of this car looks very much like a face of a storm trooper. The designers might have been watching Star Wars when designing these cars!
Good vid Brother
I have the prior shape it's my bunnings shopping trolly and general fetch and carry plus dog transporter ideal for the $$$
Much better looking.
Let's not forget the 2 deal breakers. Auto stop enables every restart and the craziest driver monitoring I've ever seen. No thank you
Auto stop? Driver monitoring?
Not sure what you mean here. I have a 23 XTreme and there is no auto stop nor any driver monitoring. Lane assist and collision warnings are passive, not active and can be turned off.
You sure you not thinking of the new model just released?
Good. Now do a mn triton
Way less problems I bet.
Given most will buy this car because it’s a cheaper option, perhaps buying an older one with essentially the same drive train is the way to go?
You get what you pay for - ranger is good, engine unreliable. Navara - rubbish, hilux - plain jane. Triton - cheap, reliable, nothing special but doesn't put a foot wrong, everything you need nothing you dont, 10 year warranty, super select 4 wheel drive, im sold.
Always thought the wheel track was far too narrow for the body on these.
This facelifted version made it extremely better looking than the prefacelift , the prefacelift was kind of fugly
Not sure where you got that Xtreme footage from, that's nothing like the actual Xtreme
Is the Mitsubishi 380 the best valued USED car ?
So I get the feeling the guy that designed the Navara D40 engine 🤔is now working at Mitsubishi.
I like the triton it does well in a lot of areas! But for overall cost I’d buy a D23 Navara post 2018 so you get the series 3 coil suspension in the rear that just gives you such a comfortable car like drive rather than feeling like a Ute.
Goodness! You hate the looks of this Triton, I wonder what you think of the new “Nissan lookalike” Triton. Now that looks SHIT!
There is not a single UTE that rides well...how can they? Can they match the ride quality of a CX 5? I guess not.
Didn't know you could get these with Orange seats..
Best value i gotta say the musso gets that trophy
I am waiting for your review on the Nissan navara and the Nissan terra. Thank you for the great work
We’ve reviewed the Nissan Navara here: ua-cam.com/video/M9DbH4CYr7k/v-deo.htmlsi=9s_fvXOz2xZ2cIGO
In USA, we didn't get Mitsubishi trucks. Everything from Mitsubishi we did get are highly regarded as absolute garbage.
30,000km?!? jesus my dads i30 is better and how the hell can you take a video at that exact moment while driving?
@@rileyrichards844 Yeah, this car has a ton of little things wrong that add up to failure. There is no space in it. I'm just off 6 feet tall and can't seem to find room for my left leg while driving. Rear seats barely fit my kids. The windscreen fogs up constantly. The rear window demister takes forever. It hasn't locked up the brakes on me yet, but I get warnings from dips in the road, and I've heard a mate of mine almost headbutted the windscreen while driving up a curb. Pretty unimpressed. Spend a bit more and get a good car I reckon.
@@Lost_on_stage_again I’m 6ft & fat… the GWM cannon has loads of interior space .. check it out
sounds like the 79 series land cruiser has a better infotainment system then the triton
Let me guess, this is John Cadogan's ute.
Sure is
Was it the pile of wedding rings in the coin tray that gave it away?
Its actually a Tesla Cybertruck
When the subject of towing something heavier than the tow rig came up I got suspicious too 😆

Triton owners buying accessories from the lowest bidder and having it not work out ….
Can these cars stop be3ing referred to as ‘utes’ they are trucks. Utilities stopped being made or imported to Australia around 2017. Every example Redriven gives an are giant oversized trucks. Love the show.
It’s a ute. If you want to call it a truck go to America
Headlights no real issue compared to pre 1983 L200's!!! 😂😂😂
Kardashian 🤣 excellent review of the Triton.
Not a dual cab buyer, but they all seem somewhat shite in different ways.
They're a good car until the engine fails. 2020 mr my engine failed
Who vomited on the seats. They look terrible. The amount i see with big oil dilution problems is ridiculous
