Our African American church and our music, regardless of denomination, has undergirded our existence and survival in this stolen land. Whenever I feel down, overburdened by the struggle, I turn to gospel music to get me out of my funk. But even more, having traced my family genealogy, I imagine the strength, fortitude, and hope my forefathers had to want to live another day. I praise God everyday, and that his encouraging words through music when the going gets rough.

This reminds me of St. Rose Disciple Church. Where I first become to know about Jesus Christ! I was a truly born into this church from the time I can remember! My mother used to play the piano and I would sing “In The Shelter of The Rock Let Me Hide!” Hallelujah and Amen 🙏🏾

God bless those babies and I pray that they continue to grow up in this Christian based home and love the Lord just as much as the adults in the family does.
