These are the quietest buses to drive!!! Very nice buses!! Too bad GM went out of the bus chassis business. The Bluebird Visions share some of their engineering, though.
Gas buses are being built, today. International stopped making their own gasoline engines in 1985. Ford stopped building the 429 in 1991. GM kept building them until the 2003 model year. Then, all the big buses started coming with gasoline options a few years ago. These old GM engines are, basically, the same engine that Freightliner and International uses today. Bluebird used it, also, before quickly going to the Rouch Ford V10, and the Godzilla, now. Gas engines were smoother, quieter, had more horsepower, were cheaper to maintain, and should have remained popular, but there was always that fear of a gasoline fire in an accident. Today, we have propane, again. We had a lot of them in the 70s. Natural gas is under extreme pressure, so I guess we don't have to worry about fires, anymore. I very much prefer driving these gasoline buses!!
Nice walkthrough of this older bus bro 😎

Beautiful school bus with a Vortec 8.1 liter V8 (same engine they put in General motors pickup trucks and motorhomes)
A powerful, quiet, and good engine!

One Of The Old Buses In The 2002’s
It is a lot easier to keep a gasser running than a diesel.
Nice bus
We have a few in the yard, now. These are nice, not rusted, buses.
Cool bus!
It is!
I honestly prefer a 3126 (I am more of a diesel person)
These 8.1s will leave a 3126 in it's dust!! The 3126 is my favorite bus diesel.
Id take this bus over the V10 garbage anyday.
I don't see the V10 as being garbage. They aren't very much trouble. BUT, I love the old tall deck GM engines, and the 8.1L even more.
gas buses exsisted back them :/
