Mike Yardley reviews the Beretta DT11 in our 3rd episode of Positive Shooting TV gun reviews
Made possible by our great location, Firle Place - www.firle-shooting.com/firle/
and guns provided by Chris Potter Country Sports - www.gun.co.uk/
The DT11 is the latest serious clay cruncher from Gardonne giant Beretta. It's a large and visually impressive gun with a similar action to the dt 10 but some very serious differences too. The action is wider and better aesthetically (although I'm not sure about the blue lines). The barrels most interestingly are bored on a new three section taper system.
The DT11 is chunky with ample stock dimensions but comfortable in face and shoulder and dusts targets with little perceived recoil and noticeably improved patterns. The trigger pulls are good to. I'm sure this is a gun which will gain a serious following. It's much more than just a rejigged 10 and for me at least it's a significantly better though heavier gun.
Some serious thought has gone into the specification of the DT11 and its main competitors will be Perazzi and Kreighoff but notably it's less expensive.
Please give us your feedback and let us know what guns you'd like to see reviewed in the future.

Ratings System Explanation
Handling
Mike's verdict on the general handling of the gun. Is it pointable? Controllable? Stable? Does it move too quickly? (Is it whippy?) Is it ponderous? Does the barrel weight suit the gun? Does it feel well balanced (which may involve more than a simple hinge pin index)?.
Stock Design
How well is the stock designed for the guns designated function? Issues considered will include comb, grip and forend shape/proportion. Is the comb tapered if appropriate? It is excessively angled? Does the grip have a comfortable radius, what is its depth like through it length? Is the hand well anchored? Is muzzle control encouraged and recoil control? Does the forend aid pointability? Does it allow for hand movement without changing barrel axis/hand relationship?
Originality
How innovative is the gun? How much of the gun has been copied from older designs and how much is genuinely new? A gun may still score for originality if is inspired by a classic but takes a new take on it - subtle development will be noted.
Aesthetics
Mike's personal opinion on how the gun looks both with regard to general form and to decoration. Price will be factored in in the latter case.
Build Quality
How well is the gun built and put together? What is the quality of the materials used in the gun? Will it last? How good is the wood to metal and metal to metal fit? Are there any gaps apparent? Is the quality of machining above of below the average? Are machining marks apparent internally? Is the hardening competent? Is the gun well jointed between barrels and action.
Recoil
Felt recoil -- how much recoil do you feel when you shoot the gun? More than one opinion may be sought here to allow for variations in physique and their impact on this index. Can the gun be shot for long periods without discomfort? Is it above or below average on recoil. Weight will be considered and factored in - not all heavy guns have low felt recoil and not all light ones have excessive recoil.
Patterns
The quality of patterns thrown as assessed from kills on targets and pattern plates when used. A gun which comes with a range of chokes will usually be tested with different combinations of constriction.
Function
Mechanical function. This covers issues such as function of the top lever, safety and barrel selector if fitted. Are the strikers efficient? Are the ejectors well timed and powerful? Is the gun easy to disassemble and reassemble?
Trigger
The mechanical function of the trigger. Are pulls too light or heavy? Do the pulls complement each other? Are they crisp? Is there any play or creep?
Value
Does the gun offer value for money at its price point? - Спорт
An excellent and thoughtful review. I took a DT11 Sporting out for a test drive at a Ducks Unlimited event over the weekend thanks to my friendly local Beretta dealer. It's definitely a substantial gun, but after some tweaks on the comb height, it had me breaking targets with alarming regularity and with tighter chokes than I would have chosen for the situation.
Here I am just a few years later, and now you see the beretta dt11 dominating in many world wide competitions. The one shooter that stands out is Vincent Hancock. It's funny to read through many of the early comments and see the anti opinions that are completely over ridden by the professional shooters now!
here two years later when vincent hancock won gold
Go Mike! Great review!
Loving the purple strides, Mike.
I liked the gun and thought it an improvement on the DT10 though it has a very different character. It's a big gun with ample stock shapes & great build quality. It's very soft to shoot, with a wider action than its predecessor. The lock up is very strong too with cross-bolting and the taper bore really seems to produce A1 patterns. The trigger pulls are good. as well, and, the DT11 is priced significantly under some of its main competitors. If you can't afford one the new 692 is also excellent.
Yes it's a lot of money but our tests will focus on range of different value guns. We have tests coming up on the Browning 525 and Silver Pigeon 1 which are more affordable.
Yes the next tests we film will be comparison tests. However there are still some individual tests to be edited which will come out first (including the Browning 725 and Silver Pigeon 1) You might have to wait a couple of months for the comparisons
I'm just glad the video was accompanied Vivaldi and not the Blue Oyster Bar dance music of previous offerings.
Personally I prefer Beretta over other makes because they have a low profile action. I have a 686 Onyx Sporter which I love. If I had the cash I would buy a DT11 without question. Like many things in life, it's not whether something is "worth it" or good value, it's how much you want to spend and can spend.
The cow at 1:05 agrees with you Mike.
In all honesty I think Beretta are working very hard behind the scenes to make a Perazzi beater, they make great guns but the Olympics showed that Perazzi are totally and utterly dominant in the competition shotgun market. Beretta want more of that action and the quick upgrade from the DT10 to the DT11 shows that any shortcomings are quickly addressed. Everyone has their favourites and that won't change but Kemen have shown it can be done and have eaten into the Perazzi marketplace.
When you pay a high price for a shotgun, yes, it will have some things you like about it, but still, the justification in the price? I think you're buying into a club, to make you feel good rather than what the features are really worth. Now if you want a gun that will last for generations, well, that makes a good argument. On the other hand, inexpensive guns dust clays just as well. Tristar gets my vote!!! You could buy a few of them for WAYYYYY cheaper so you will have a back up just in case you're worried something might happen during competition. Great warranty, customer service. They actually answer the phone when you call! You can send it off to get fixed if needed, and have two more ready to go for backup. But even the chances of that happening I'm sure are slim to none.
If only American gun owners were like this guy.
Devin Chaves no, he belives that all semi rifles and handguns only belong in the hands of state and practical shooting encourges fantesey or terrorist training ! only the state should partake in the fun stuff or practical shooting
he also belives that uk subjects cant be trusted to defend themselves with firearms !
He's anti gun .... The guns he doesn't like
Do you mean wear purple pants?
Good owd MY, he,s a top chap here in UK, speaks well on radio when we get `gun crime` and people want ALL guns BANNED. .
And now for something completely different
I find the price on this gun way too high to be honest : /
I know engraving does nothing for shooting but for $8K+ it looks very plain to me.
wiil you be comparing the browning 725 against the beretta silver pigeon
NO! Two different segments.
3:20 earplugs are in - of course!

Simply to expensive for most shooters !
7k.. might as well save your self a few more quid an get a perazzi,
US$8000, unobtanium for most shooters...
Pour ce prix pas de bloc de détente mécanique, pas d'éjecteurs débrayables, pas de choix de grandeur de crosse, c'est surfait disons.
CEASAR GEURINI GIVE YOU WAY MORE FOR THE MONEY !!!!!!!!!

Totally overpriced gun . Come on Beretta , dont be so greedy . We are not stupid .
That's not worth 9 thousand dollars... fuck that.
8k for a Beretta with blue go faster strips, I cannot see it’s worth the money, also cannot help but think the review is self serving and on the arrogant side of independent

The DT11 is a utter crap gun, over priced and unreliable, they handle like a fence post as well! 2 people I know bought one, it broke after 2 week and 250 cartridges through it, when stopped the actions were both rusty as hell on the In side! Utter shite!
