  • Jen Hatmaker grew up with a father who was a pastor in the Baptist church, moving the family from Kansas to a series of small Southern towns. For a long time, though, she’s been a diehard Texan, which is very evident not only in the food she loves but also in her fierce independent streak. Her new cookbook, Feed These People, breaks just about every rule and tradition you’ve ever seen in a cookbook - from the ingredients to the directions to the occasional curse word - but that’s what makes it fun.

In the South, talking about food is personal. It’s a way of sharing a part of your history, your family, your culture, and yourself. Each week, Sid Evans, Editor in Chief of Southern Living, will sit down with celebrity musicians to hear stories of how they grew up, what inspired them, and how they’ve been shaped by Southern culture. Sid will take us back to some of their most cherished memories and traditions, the family meals they still think about, and their favorite places to eat on the road. I can so relate to everything! Growing up in the Deep South and now most of it in Louisiana-came here from my family’s anchor state of Mississippi. I grew up in the Baptist church as well and I absolutely KNOW about the FOOD! But Jen I don’t go to church any more but the last years in the 90’s I was amazed how many younger women brought cakes and cookies from Walmart! I’m such a crazy cookbook collector fiend-anything junior League or church. I’ve had to cull them hard several times or they would need a room to themselves. I have to have yours too! Love this interview! You’re my kind of people! ❤
