Such a great show. Had a lot of heart and soul, unlike most cartoons today. I'm 47 and still remember this show so fondly. Keep fighting the good fight Venger, wherever you are.
All these years and I just realized: Venger was the first character (that I know of) to pull the 'Wings Look Like A Cloak When Folded" thing that Disney's Gargoyles are known for 😁
ERRATA & NOTES: 5:45 that's Lolth, demon queen of spiders, one of the original monsters from the AD&D Monster Manual 6:09 "In Search Of the Dungeon Master" is the episode title. 6:27: the 'monstrous frogs' are called bullywugs, and are from the Fiend Folio. 6:58: the lizard men were called lizard men in the Monster Manual contemporary of the series. I believe lizard 'folk' was later editions of the game. 10:50: in "Requiem" they kids fought a hydra, not Tiamat. 11:22: the script describes the monsters as an 'amoeboid' 15:13: in the film (SPOILERS) it's suggested that the challenge winners will perish, and the kids are the lead team after the first trial.
Such a great character, with a sense of values that can't help but be respected. In my youth, I really did on more than one occasion have the thought "What would Venger do?"
@@LordTalax No, of course not. Was having too much fun on my flying horse for that. I sent my Shadow Demon out to do any dirty work that needed doing.
Venger has a hint of honour in him (a remnant of his humanity), when he struck a deal with Hank for a temporary truce so he can get rid of the Demogorgon he lost control of.
@@zetaviodeloryan5381 I started to reply and then did a double take! Thank you for the brilliant ending to that series! It was a thing of beauty and the perfect capstone! I only wished you worked at Lucasfilm
I get the feeling Venger struck out on his own to prove himself and what better way to do it than to fight the Nameless One, something that inevitably corrupted him into the source of all evil we’ve come to grow and love. Like he didn’t seek out the Nameless One to become an apprentice but instead he sought it out to defeat it so he could prove to his father he was a bad ass but the ended up being corrupted into evil. Can’t say the same about his sister though!
The Nameless One is supposed to be Venger's master since that's who made him who he was & he had turned his back on Dungeon Master because he wanted power & he felt like he wasn't getting what he wanted with DM so he had no choice but to seek out The Nameless one, But Dungeon Master made a vow to never give up on his son which is why he needed help in bringing him back which explains where the kids came in.
Did you forget that Venger has another weakness, you can find it in an episode called *"The Traitor."* The cloud bears have heart stones which Venger is powerless against.
Ok so like what i don't get is that if Venger wanted the kids magical weapons instead of trying to kill them and take them by force why not just help the kids get back home in exchange for their artifacts?? Kids: hey Venger we don't really want to be here you can have our weapons if you show us how to get home... Venger: die children!! Oh wait that's all i have to do to win is send you home?? Sure follow me it's this way..end of show problem solved everyone wins the end.
This was my favorite cartoon at that time. I don’t know why it was cancelled. The music and characters were great and Vengor was an epic character. It taught good ethical lessons at the end. It wasn’t your typical mindless cartoon. Entertaining for people of all ages except for maybe very young children like age 4. My only criticism is they made too few slides for the movement of the characters. I’m sure there’s a word for that but I don’t know what it is. With today’s technology that can be easily remedied. I hope they bring it back someday.
If they added Venger into a sequel to Honor Amongst Thieves I wonder who would be cast as this awesome character. I would love someone like Robert Englund or Brad Dourif
I was thinking of Jason Isaacs or Mark Strong or Ralph Ffeines (alrhough it’ll be much like Voldemort) with makeup fx and voice manipulation and reverb.
One problem: The D&D tv show is not set in the Forgotten Realms campaign setting, it was set in a D&D world that was neither the Eberron or Grayhawk campaing settings, which were the only D&D worlds in 1983-1985, the Forgotten Realms campaign setting, which is the D&D world Honor Among Thieves is set in, was created a year after the show Venger appeared in was cancelled, in 1986. The final episode of the D&D show aired as a radio drama, and in the end, it revealed Venger was Dungeon Master's son. After the kids found a way to turn Venger back into DM's son, they were finally able to go back to Earth. But how did they end up in the Forgotten Realms? I theorize that the final episode of the 80's D&D show was retconned a bit. Instead of being able to get directly back to Earth, Dungeon Master opened a portal to the Forgotten Realms world, explaining that Toril (the name of the setting's planet) used to have portals that directly connect to Earth, and their only way back to Earth is to find a portal from that world.

Venger is Optimus Prime?!
Voldermort looks like him but without the pointy teeth
I agree. I also think that JKR may have been influenced by the "Dungeons and Dragons Cartoon" when she wrote "Harry Potter." That maze scene in "The Girl Who Dreamed Tomorrow" is very similar to the one in, "The Goblet of Fire;" especially the effect the maze has on those who are in it.
is Venger a Red Wizard?
What is his class, sorcerer or warlock
There’s a game???
Dungeon Master should ask for a blood test.
