Nope i don't think it's bad lighting I think they call it dumb side lighting which gives the subject a more approachable feeling and what you just demonstrated is called smart side lighting which gives the subject a more dramatic look.
@@-441- It's only beginner lighting if it's shot for just for the sake of shooting, cause otherwise a skilled cinematographer would light a subject this way with a motive of portraying something like a jolly scene instead of a dramatic scene where the lighting is "smart side lighting"...
@@t.ammunition793 Agreed. It's funny because I'm literally a beginner (not video-wise, but more gaffer wise) and recently shot a shoot similar to this 😬😬😅😅but only because it was a passion project and I wasn't actually given time with the subject to set up a proper lighting setup. (20 mins-ish)
Its a filter that function as kinda a sunglass that you can modify the level of darkness or brightness. I dont how to say english is not my first lenguage. But yeah. It cuts the brightnes just like sunglass does
@@user-ig8fw6mg1u Hi, how is that filter used?.. is it available on the editing softwares or you need to add it on them ... I'm new to this field and don’t know much!
but don't comedy films use the first type of lighting? they are usually flat and don't use the more dramatic lighting set up you did. still a very helpful video!
Advice, don’t just put up random lighting do it how he did it, there needs to be a source, in this short the sun shining through the window is the source of lighting so that’s where he primarily staged his lighting set up, other sources could be a lamp, a fire place, a tv, etc
Dude, this was insanely good for beginners. Seriously, I’m a editorial photographer, but, this was extremely helpful.

Yeah, it's more in the range of "broadside" lighting. It's not preferable, but it's not "bad" per say. Well, more so indicative of a beginner lol.
Its not visually appealing, which is enough to rule against it

@@sfadeel9800 No, it’s a piece of hardware, glass that you attach in front of your lens especially if you were shooting outdoors.

Comedy use the same lighting but they usually fill the shadow side of the face up with a fill light or a bouncing reflector.
@@SHVideografie thank you for clearing that up!
