In The Wizard of Oz, Dorothy’s shoes were originally silver, but when making the film, everything in Oz needed to read bright and colorful after the sepia toned (black and white) Kansas scene. So they became red.
They are quite interesting to look at! They are currently held at the Smithsonian in DC along with Abe Lincoln’s hat and the puffy shirt from Seinfeld and the grouch from Sesame Street lol
FYI... Judy Garland wore "red" shoes in the "Wizard of Oz" because the "silver" shoes Dorothy Gale wore in the book didn't show up well on camera. Since they were filming in Technicolor, they wanted the shoes to pop on camera. :-)

“Footloose” was loosely based on an actual situation in Elmore City, Oklahoma. As an Okie, it was interesting to hear that back when the movie came out.
Anybody else notice how relaxed she is here? She’s been sticking to a script on these - understandable given the heavy amount of information. But I’ve been hoping she’d settle in and show more of the silly, off-the-cuff Bailey I love. And she’s getting there.
Some believe the dancing could have been brought on by food poisoning caused by the toxic and psychoactive chemical products of ergot fungi (ergotism), which grows commonly on grains (such as rye) used for baking bread. It would of contaminated the entire crop and using local grain to make more food for the dancing people would of perpetuated the problem!

This dancing became popular and the name "Saint Vitus Dance" was given to the neurological disorder Sydenham's chorea. It also led to Vitus being considered the patron saint of dancers and of entertainers in general."
About the Sydenham's Chorea Disorder "Sydenham's chorea, also known as chorea minor and historically and occasionally referred to as St Vitus' dance, is a disorder characterized by rapid, uncoordinated jerking movements primarily affecting the face, hands and feet. Sydenham's chorea is an autoimmune disease that results from childhood infection with Group A beta-haemolytic Streptococcus."
This is fantastic. Thank you for the info. I love learning things like this. 🤗
A wow!!
I've wondered for a long time what would cause a "dancing virus" . Great feedback! Thanks!!!
Thank you! I literally was thinking it sounded like something medical that we are aware of today.
I JUST commented about that a neurological condition couldve caused the dancing!!! Great minds think alike.

The Red Shoes thing just made me think of the movie about a ballerina playing a character who wore curse red ballet shoes that kept her dancing no matter how hard she tried to stop she couldn’t .
I haven’t heard of that movie but ill have to look it up, the red shoes thing made me think about Louis Vuitton’s red bottoms and the messed up history of designer brands/ the fashion industry and wonder where else / how else red shoes references throughout history

The dancing plague was definitely one of the weirdest in history. I always felt like it was probably a mix of hysteria, and possibly ergot poisoning or something.
Ergot for sure. Mold was growing on the bread, preserves did not exist yet.
@@Missfoxtooyou I'm glad we don't need to worry about that now. Ergot had a hand in the Salem fiasco too.

I came here to say this too haha
Just wanted to say my newborn niece acts like she recognizes something when we watch your videos on the tv. My sister watched quite a bit of bailey while pregnant🥺❤️ just thought that was absolutely adorable
that's so cutee
There is a reason we're told to talk to our babies while pregnant. Bailey has a distinctive voice and way of speaking. Your niece may recognize Bailey's voice.✌😸
What that's so cute and sweet i love it
My son does too and I'm sure it's because Ive been watching her videos since before I was preggo. Lol
She will be recognizing Bailey's voice. They hear everything going on around them in Utero. To fit in with today's History I will add a trivia feature; THE UNBORN LOVE TO DANCE! 🕺 💃 Just maybe not the hopping around part.
All October you should have called yourself bailey "SCARYian"

That gives her too much power. It’s dangerous

New listener/watcher, lovvvve your work! So entertaining and educational. I can say as a former dance gymnastics cheer and acro teacher and performer, I often danced myself right to the emergency room. Everything from dislocations and breaks to dehydration and fainting. I would have been right there with em. Smh

This is, by far, the funniest Dark History to date. I lost my mind when you said, “Snacking on the body of Christ.” 😂💀😂💀
In the original Grimm tale, Snow Whites stepmother was made to wear "red shoes" at the wedding to dance as punishment, burning her feet
Did not know that!!! 🖤
I thought it was iron shoes that were heated up to look red?

Buffy the vampire slayer had a musical episode where a demon made people dance until they burst into flames. I like this story. Nice choice!
That's what I always heard and couldn't believe it didn't get mentioned!

Dangit, I held that yawn in for a whole minute trying to resist out of spite.
I could not. 😮💨
All I can think of, during this story, is "I've got the rockin' pneumonia and the boogie woogie flu" and David Bowie's Let's Dance " put on your red shoes and dance the blues"
It's just because Winnie Sanderson said, "Dance, dance, dance until you DIE!" in Hocus Pocus.

@@nicolehealy7833 oh wow. Thankfully the longest in one time I dealt with it was a few hours. I just kicked my legs and kept stretching them which I was informed makes it worse.
