  • Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EOE) is an allergic condition in the esophagus that often goes undiagnosed for up to 10 years. In the last two years since we first covered EoE, new treatment options are now available for this chronic condition. Gastroenterologist Dr. Milli Gupta returns to help us understand the new treatment options and explain what patients need to know in preparation for discussing their options with their healthcare provider. This episode provides a basic overview of EoE, including the signs and symptoms a person may experience, such as trouble swallowing, food impaction, and the adaptive behaviors at mealtime, that signal it’s time to seek medical attention. This episode is brought to you by Sanofi Regeneron.

I was just diagnosed with EoE. I am a 70 year old male. Never have had any problems swallowing. But, about 8 years ago I choked on a pretzel. Ever since then I do choke on dry things a little more often and things with vinegar cause my throat to spasm. I am on no other medications for anything. Been pretty healthy my whole life. My symptoms for about a year and a half have been, a lump in my throat and pressure down the middle of my chest feeling like I’m on the verge of a panic attack. I am currently doing my own version of an elimination diet. They also found that I have a small hiatal hernia. Thank you for this info.

Thank you for this episode! I was diagnosed with EOE earlier this year. I had 2 or 3 years of what I thought was extreme acid reflux. I would have "attacks" where I would throw up for 1 or 2 hours straight and couldn't even swallow water. After a few months of omeprazole, my doctor prescribed eohilia. However, it made me very nauseous, so I stopped and decided to eliminate dairy. So I was happy to hear in this episode that dairy is the one to try! I am only a couple of weeks in, so we'll see how it goes. Wish me luck.
