I can confirm that "Amazon Music Prime" (which is different to "Amazon Music Unlimited") does work in the Tesla. I have just tried it and as a Prime customer, this is going to be the cheapest alternative for now.
I also forgot to mention phone hotspot/tethering in the video. Many people use their phone's hotspot to give the Tesla a data connection rather than paying Tesla for Premium Connectivity. It's something I personally wouldn't bother doing as it's a bit of a faff and I would have to upgrade the data bundle on my phone contract, so there's not much in it. I'd rather have the unlimited Tesla data connection in the car, particularly when it comes to streaming UA-cam and Netflix. Plus the other advantages of having it integrated in the car and multi-network roaming etc.

I have never really used spotify and have the Premium Connectivity. I must say that I was not aware the premium spotify had ever been included for free. I am happy using my Apple Music and I guess that those using Spotify a lot will have an existing subscription.

    • @GoGreenAutos

Many would have an existing Spotify subscription but it seems that just as many didn't realise the car has its own free Spotify account, so have been missing out on this feature.

Spotify connectivity has been poor for the past 12 months, tracks pausing, drop outs etc, so it's not a great loss. Will keep Premium subscription for the other features. The email from Tesla was lacking clarity and clear information. Seems every company is heading towards a subscription model to bring them regular income.

Seems the same with all email & notices from Tesla. They keep them brief and I guess try to be on point, but that just confuses a lot of people.

i disagree, the only feature on premium connectivity that i actually use is live camera view. Everything else i don't really care for. The only other minor perk of having premium connectivity, is not having to tether the car to your phones hotspot. But i don't find it worth it essentially paying for both my mobile data on my sim card, and also on the car essentially

I think it’s ridiculous, all those companies want to maximise their “profit”. The only reason I had premium connectivity was that I could listen to Spotify. Now that I need to pay extra for a Spotify account, I will stop the premium connectivity. I have an unlimited data bundle on mine cellphone. I will use mine cellphone as a hotspot for mine car, that way I still have all those other features of premium connectivity. By the way even without premium connectivity or using your cellular phone as a hotspot, still the car uses traffic data when you are using the navigation, you only will not see it on your map.

    • @GoGreenAutos

I suspect Tesla looked at the data and they were paying for hundreds of thousands of Spotify licenses when customers weren't using them.

Can you use your mobile phone as a hotspot for internet connection in the car? For maps etc? And what about the updates Tesla publishes time to time?

    • @GoGreenAutos
      @GoGreenAutos  8 днів тому +2

Yes you can use your phone as a hotspot and many do to save the Premium Connectivity cost. But personally I don't think its worth the hassle and you've also got the potential to use up all your phone data allowance.
Tesla over the air updates are different as you need to connect the car to WiFi to download those. You'll get an update notification on the phone app first telling you there is an update waiting and then you just need to park the car within the range of a WiFi for it to do its update.

I don't know. I've not heard anything about them yet. I would assume you'll loose Spotify too as this is more of a Spotify issue not a Premium Connectivity issue. i.e. the fact that you don't pay for PC should make no bearing on this. PC is the same service for all Tesla drivers whether its free or paid for.

It could be that Spotify ended its arrangement with Tesla, as I believe it was implemented initially to get more customers to Spotify, but now there are so many Teslas on the road now it had changed.
Regardless, Tesla offer so many music streaming apps now that most people already subscribe to at least one, plus don’t forget Tune in internet radio is fantastic as well that gets around DAB and FM range limitations. The Tesla premium subscription is still good value and ill be keeping it.

    • @GoGreenAutos

You're absolutely right. It could be that Spotify ended their agreement with Tesla. It would be good to know.
I suspect Tesla looked at the data and now with millions of vehicles on the road, they were paying for too many Spotify licenses that weren't being used. I suspect more owners didn't use the free account than did.

So I've had to use my hotspot recently anyway. With that I'm going to cancel premium connectivity as I just don't see the value in it anymore. Tesla should pay you for clarifying their, what I suspect, deliberately poorly crafted gutless ‘communication’.
What pisses off me is like you, I too will lose my “LIKED” songs in Spotify. Damn, Tesla doesn’t give a toss about how much efforts I have put in curating that list of favourite songs! They should at least help us perhaps migrate that list to my personal Spotify account.
Damn, I have to go back to Apple Music now.
