You don't need an amp pedal like this, a PA is usually already powered, so if you want to go direct into a PA and want to emulate a certain amp, you need a Pre-Amp pedal. I mostly play acoustic, and pre-amps are indispensable on any acoustic players pedal board, I own several, and their main duty is to replicate the cleanest amp sounds with as little feedback or noise as possible, which is why they are more filtered than other pedals etc. etc. etc. With Electric Guitars it's different, there is more desired gain/feedback involved as you are trying to replicate the sound of the warm tubes in a given amplifier... I would use something more like a JHS Morning Glory, hell even a Boss Metal Zone would work if that's your thing, these pedals are designed to replicate the tones and gain stages of different amplifiers. Understanding the difference between Amp Pedals like the Howitzer and Pre Amp pedals isn't too difficult, there are plenty of videos and articles on the subject.
I have a Spark 40 amplifier. I learned that the E harmonix 44 Magnum will allow me to play the Spark 40 thru my 1 by 12 spkr cab. IS THIS HOWITZER 15 STRONG ENUF TO WORK IN PLACE OF THE MAGNUM 44?
Hey! Thank you for responding! I'm a bedroom guitarist, I DONT want/need loud. I only need assurance that the Howitzer has MOJO enuf to drive the Spark 40 amp. I guess the Spark 40 will, in my situation, do the same job as your preamp pedal(s). Guitar into Spark, into my 1 by 12 inch 8 ohm cab . My point is to be rid of the overwhelming bass of the Spark built in speakers. I luv the Spark otherwise.
Yeah, E-Q bonus! My Howitzer IS ORDERED. It will cost me $200 Cdn, a frightful sum for a pedal. But I'm counting on it to restore my sagging spirits over the flubbiness of my Spark 40. Guitar into Howitzer into 1 by 12 spkr cab. Spark features make this worth pursuing!
It's got a sound all its own, for a 15 watter asking it to sound like a Marshall stack is a stretch. To my ears it sounds more like an Orange Terror 15watt, as it gets really mucky and muddy past noon. Do a side by side yourself and you'll see what I mean.
It is also has a built in preamp.
I have one i think its a no brainer
I see a lot of misinformation, when all someone had to do is _read the owner's manual._
Hi guy! Can I use this Howitzer wired straight in-line through a PA mix, without the need for a cabinet onstage?
No , it is an amplifier for powering a speaker cabinet.
It does not have any kind of speaker simulator inbuilt

Yes you can: see the Send of the FX Loop is also a Line Out, you can enter in the mixer (but without cab-sim, it functions as a DI box)
So, this pedal is essentially just an amp head to run through a cabinet?
Correct ✅
Can it be used with a Quad Cortex, Helix or other similar modeler multi-effects pedals?@@Brennosguitarsandgear
@@jameslanclos568 yes it could be used to amplify any of those units

It will work but it is only 15 watts , the 44 Magnum is 44 watts so you would assume it will be louder

For home use the Howitzer would be perfect, the addition of eq (compared to the magnum 44) will be helpful to shape the sound too

Awesome, hope it works out for you.
Please subscribe if you haven’t already 😊
What are your thoughts almost a year later. Do you still use it?
Still got it,
Mainly use for practice when I don’t want to set up / carry a head.
Good for gig backup amp too
anyone knows if i can use it straight to the mixer as a amp simulator?
There is no speaker simulator built in , so no
Would you say it sounds like a plexi?
Not really, it’s almost fuzz like with the gain up
Almost a mix of fender / Vox when clean
@@Brennosguitarsandgear Thanks, I was hoping it sounded Marshall like with the gain up a bit.

They should've made the loop switchable.
