I think you also need to test the durability by making a little update at the end after 8 hrs o something of wear.
Both sides look the same, really good on you. But the truth is that even drugstore makeup is getting expensive, and I like to see a video about expensive vs. drugstore.

This is my jam!!!!! I love seeing expensive vs less expensive makeup. I'm surprised more Westman Atelier stuff wasn't in the most expensive. That brand is CRAZY. Tom Ford is insane pricy. That Tom Ford bronzer looked way too orange in the pan. I hope it wasn't called a contour. It should be more grey for your light shade, not orange! You should have went with Haus Labs concealer, they have nice light shades. I really love the Rimmel Miracle Ink liquid eyeliner. I've used it for years.
Collect little bags and use them as stuffing for a pillow or quilt.

The Westman Atelier powder is surprisingly great for dry skin! Honestly, I felt a bit guilty about owning so many of the expensive products you've tried, but I think both sides look amazing on you. For me, high-end brands tend to be less irritating on my dry, sensitive skin, and I love that a little product goes a long way. 😊✨

@faizaanwar3662 i think it also depends on your skin type and environment because I used to have very oily skin and live in a very humid environment; nothing would last on me. But then I took accutane twice and moved to the desert, and my skin is normal now, and my makeup lasts all day.

With beauty products, it’s not just the ingredients that define the product. The product’s formulation heavily impacts how it performs.
So while two products may have very similar ingredient lists, the way in which the ingredients are implemented, as well as the grade and sourcing of each ingredient, can cause differences in their performances.
Additionally, production cost are also impacted by formulation methods, not just the cost of ingredients. Quality and sourcing of ingredients also results in variations in cost for the same ingredient.
This isn’t to say that more expensive products are necessarily worth the extra $$$ or are always better than cheaper alternatives. Many luxury brands are often known for unnecessarily hiking up prices because they know consumers will pay for the brand name or aesthetic.
However, just because two different products have the same ingredient list, it doesn’t mean that they act in the same way or even cost the same amount of money to make.
With all this in mind, it is ultimately up to the consumer to make the decision of whether a product is worth its price tag.

13:09 Oh, Mia... Sephora does a notoriously TERRIBLE job packaging up their shipments. Lol
I often get small, fragile products in giant boxes with no crumpled up paper stuffs to keep things from flying around and smashing into each other. Lol
They are usually pretty good to send replacements but it would be nice if things were just handled with more care to start with.

    • @thehappyrecluse
      @thehappyrecluse 48 хвилин тому

I own Pat McGrath products and I'm pretty sure the shadow that broke was one of the special shades that is baked. Baked products are more fragile and it was definitely on Sephora and their shipping. Sephora should know to package those better for shipping. When I bought directly from the Pat McGrath website my palette was bubble wrapped extensively with filler to keep it from moving in an appropriately sized box. I had no breakage. The eyeshadow breaking or not has nothing to do with the quality of the product, it just means it is more fragile and should be treated accordingly.

For future reference, you can fix broken pallets with rubbing alcohol!! Just put the pieces back in, crush it all up with the end of a makeup brush, put rubbing alcohol on it (like saturate the powder you’re fixing), and press it down into the tin with a piece of toilet paper and let it dry overnight 😃 it’s saved me so many times…
And yes to the drugstore cheapest vs. expensive!!!

Not to be supporting the more expensive products, but since you were comparing the product ingredients for the setting powder I got curious and decided to look them up on yuka. The sephora one does not have a good rating while the westman atelier one received an excellent rating. So even though the ingredients might seem similar on first look they can be quite different and some products are safe and better made than others. That does not go for all products though as even a lot of super expensive products(and other products from the westman atelier brand) have bad ingredients in them as well and some cheaper products have better ingredients sometimes.

Your comment about the brow gel being maybe $4 to produce sent me down a rabbit hole of looking at how much things actually cost to produce. (I'm avoiding work. Hush.)
There are a few sites online with "component calculators" for manufacturing, and from what I can see, you're correct about the $4...for packaging. Add in custom screen printing on the tubes and any upgrades/customizations, add a dollar or two per unit. Then you still have to produce the actual product itself -- there are R&D costs, ingredient sourcing, licensing both in the US and abroad (regulations may be different so packaging will need to be changed for each market), fragrance procurement, and the costs of iteration of each. And once that's finalized, there are manufacturing fees, shipping (which can be insane), marketing and graphic designers to pay, along with wages for warehouse and shipping staff. Oh, and for the cruelty-free thing -- that certification costs a pretty penny and is paid *per item*, not just once per company, which adds a bit, too. That $4 shoots up exponentially.
Obviously, there's the whole economy of scale, where the more you buy at one time, the less the manufacturing costs per unit, but when I ran some numbers on the calculators some of the companies provide, even 50000 units was still more than $5 for a heavy glass bottle full of goo, so...not a whole lot different. 50K units is quite a bit for a niche or indie producer, too.
And also obviously, $76 for brow gel is just utterly ridiculous. I AM one of those old grandmas who spend weird amounts of money on things in a vain attempt to snatch back some youth from the jaws of death, but even *I* wouldn't even think about shelling out $76 for /brow gel/. I wonder who their target market actually is??
Loved this video; thanks for getting my ancient brain to wake up and get interested this morning! :)

I LOVE these videos. Even most of the “BEAUTY” channels don’t do these anymore

I would love to see this done with Ulta as well! Since they have the more drugstore products in their stores.

I love you Mia, and that is why I figured that I would let you know that Morphe is a company with heavily compromised morals. It goes beyond petty scandals they’re had in the past and the products themselves.
They have mistreated their employees, specifically their retail workers in their store locations. I recommend watching Robert Welsh’s video breaking down Morphe’s history and reputation, if you want to learn more.
Basically, the company gave employees in all their retail locations in certain countries one day’s notice of their termination before shutting down all store locations. They did this on two occasions: the first time was in January 2023 when they shut down all of their U.S. store locations, and the second time was this past August with all of their locations in the U.K.

Mia I would love to see a series of you trying iconic Drag Race makeup (Trixie, Crystal Methyd, Morphine Love, etc!). Would be a crossover for the ages!

I love this!!! and yes I agree with other commenters to do an expensive vs drugstore! I think that would be such a fun idea! I would also love to see how the two makeup looks hold up through out the day because while I am not against expensive things if the quality is there if there is a product that is 3 times the price but only last the same amount or less then the cheaper product then where is the money going? u know?
