I remember Richard F. Stratton quoting that from John P. Colby in an interview Dogumentary TV did with him. It was a great video I recommend everyone give a watch. Even though Mr. Stratton was talking about the American pit bulldog breed specifically, staffies are very closely related to pit bulldogs and have been used for some of the same things such as hog hunting, ratting, dog-on-dog fights, badger baiting, etc. Actually, as Diane Jessup said in an interview, the two started off as the same breed. But while pit bulldogs continued to go in the direction of the hunting, catching, baiting, and warring dogs they were meant to be, staffies went more in a direction of conformation. While bulldogs are more for work against four-legged creatures, folks like this and Diane Jessup have shown their promise in work like French Ring and Schutzhund. And while even they understand that is not the kind of work you want to encourage and breed bulldogs for, it is still great to display the versatility in these swell working dogs. Fine video and mighty fine-looking staffy by the way.
Their true origin and history is a mystery though.
Nobody knows for sure just how old the apbt breed really is.
They've only been officially recognized as a breed for about 100 years.

Year 18 in the breed and this guy spoke correct on it. I've been following the IG account for years and he really has a gem in Rizzo because they really aren't for protection; they love people too much. So powerful and fast for their size. They're essentially a mastiff crossed with a terrier. 328 PSI in their bite matching a Rottweiler. Has to be my favorite breed out of all I've owned.
Little guy looks great. Super fit, super functional. No bells or whistles.
Such an awesome little breed. I have an Amstaff, slightly larger than this one. She got it to a scrap with a raccoon. I’m glad I was home and was able to save the coon, poor thing was getting thrashed. These dogs aren’t people aggressive, but they’ll go after rodents. Love Staffies ❤

@@-demon_dog-8511 You're right. I had no idea. I just looked it up and it says that on January 1, 1969 Amsraff became it's own breed. Distinguish from English Staffie. Learned something new.
Yeah of course! Their Terriers, their instinct is no different than a Jack Russell or an Airedale. That's what they were bred for! ❤

Wonderful breed to own
While they weren't bred to be man aggressive, I would bet if you started putting the pressure on, many of them would fight back for real. APBT was not bred to be guard dogs, but many of them excel as such because they have high prey drive, solid nerves and a desire to fight.
This would apply to any dog breed, not only a Staffie. Dogs will do whatever they have been trained to do. U can convince a Chihuahua to be a guard dog if he/she is trained as such.
@@DeshanNaidoo Eh no, you cannot just train a dog to be a guard dog if they weren't born with the drives to do so.

@@mattg1889not saying each breed is equally effective but all are capable of learning anything. If you put in the effort you can teach a Chihuahua to guard or a greyhound to herd

Littelest Dog biggest fearlessness is the German Hunting Terrier. 15 Kilo Dog, but enough to Play with every Boar to take the Boar down with the Lance. I know that breed very well. Is Not fit for Protection or Family Dog. But the most fearless Dog in the World. We Germans know that. Go hunting extrem dangerous Animal and you will be so Lucky to have one of our Hunting Terriers at your side. Never back down, never run away. But so small and so agile the dog makes you Go for the Kill.

I’m so proud of this breed… a couple years back I fell in love with the breed and haven’t looked back there’s a great book on the breed call Staffordshire Bull Terrier by Dieter Fleig

Can i use a Pitbull for home protection work?
You can, but honestly, it depends on the temperament of the dog. Not all pitbulls have that drive. Many would let an intruder in the home as long as someone rubbed its belly. Lol My pit has not been formally trained, but she has a strong territorial instinct, and has jumped through 2 windows I'm the home to get to a perpetrator and has destroyed two of my doors to do the same 😭😫

Staffies are definitely a strong breed, but English Bull Terriers are better protection/guard dogs.
I actually working on this i got bullmastiff and sbt mixed to improve the instinct to guard. @nosmokebulldogs
