Paradiddle Backbeat Drum Fill

- Shoutout to channel member Mark, today's video is a fun application of the classic single paradiddle (well, two single paradiddles) as a drum fill, played as 16th notes starting on beat 3: "3e+a, 4e+a".
The other cool thing with fills like this is that they preserve the "backbeat" on the snare - the big hit on beat 2 and beat 4, so they punctuate the music in the desired way whilst still keeping the whole thing grooving along.

Good groove. Like your friendly teaching approach too!
Very cool! Loving your channel! ❤️🥁
Love this rudiment, so versatile, great lesson Mike.
Excellent groove!!
Love this video! It's not so basic yet not advanced. Plus the explanation was so clear. Thank you Mike!! 😊
Another awesome explanation of how to play parradiddles, fills etc will have fun practicing this ,thanks so much 😁🥁 you are inspiring cheers
That reminds me of "In a Big Country" by Big Country - what a great song! I wondered how I'd ever tackle that one.
Thanks, Mike ❤
Good one, Mike!
Great video Mike, thanks. You make it sound sooo groovy yet when I do it I just sound like I'm practicing a rudiment, lol! Love the kick pattern too.
Cheers Pete!
Some drummer asked you for an example of using a rudiment in a song. You might direct your students' attention to Vasoline by Stone Temple Pilots. The entire unchanging groove is a paraddidle between kick and snare.
What's the brand and make is this drum kit?

Thanks for this one Mike, I hate paradiddles because I struggle with them.
Ah the “S” word rears its head yet again. Some videos about “struggling” for you here…
