  • Shoutout to channel member Rich - we were discussing this core concept in his session today. When we're getting going on the drums and playing our basic grooves and fills, keeping time through our fills and landing clearly "on the one" is eveything!

John thanks for this basic stuff, I’ve been playing for years but never learned these rudimentary essentials

Fantastic video I'm just starting out. A guy at work (drummer for 20+ years) told me to watch your videos he wasn't wrong much easier to understand than others. This is the first I will be having a good watch through them all. Great job Thanks

This is what confused me as a beginner. I was learning a fill and the guy I was watching said "usually the fill ends with a crash." He didn't mention that (ending crash) is beat 1 of the next bar. Another one was instead of playing a fill just have a period of silence. Then he played a beat but was playing the 1 of the next bar before taking a break for the silence part. He never mentioned he was doing that. As a beginner I could not figure it out. Several weeks later with more practice I was able to piece it all together.

I am 100% novice and I don't think I even make it to a speck of dust on Mike's soles, but have you looked at the Talking Heads version? To my ears, it sounds simpler.
