- These were among the performers at the Grand Ole Opry for the funeral on May2, 2013. As you will see, Vince gets a little emotional half way through.
I'm here again in 2024. I'll never stop loving this song and the persons singing it. Patty and Vince are absolutely legends. I shed a tear every time i listen,
RIP GEORGE JONES
I have watched this over and over for the last hour and cried every time 😢
Same......@@claricepinelle1356
Was gonna write almost the same words but you did it for me. Probably the Best song ever sung at such a sad occasion.
I come back here more than I care to admit. However, I won't stop coming back.
Two of the best country singers love you both .beautiful song 😂❤❤❤❤❤❤
I'm a 75 year old man. If this one doesn't leave you in tears, you aren't human.
Wow you’re such an amazing kind, may almighty keeps you and your family safe from this pandemic
It turns out I'm human. I'm fine with that
I listen to this video and song and I cry every time. So very touching and human.💜❤️

@@marycoppens1345 Thanks for the huge love and support, I feel blessed to have you. Stay Safe!
Loved the way Patty watched Vince and supported him through the emotional parts. When he broke down, she was there. True friendship. Loved this and George is smiling.
And her voice…enough power to run the lights in the place.
🌷
And watch how gearth stood up and everyone stood
God bless him! Vince has blessed and comforted so many , many people with this beautiful song. God bless Patty for taking up the slack for him when he broke down!
What an emotional tribute. George always called Vince "Sweetpea". I don't know how Vince got through this, but he hung in there. The guitar solo was brilliant given the emotion and grief he was going through while playing it. Huge kudos to Patty for keeping it together in support of Vince too. One of the best tributes ever to a man who was the greatest country music singer who ever lived! RIP Possum!
When Vince was overcome with grief and emotion, Patty stepped in to pick up the slack in near-seamless fashion. That's not just professionalism, that's friendship. We can all do well to have a friend like that in our lives.

Vince Gill is a true legend , he sings from his heart.
Vince is one of a kind and it's obvious he's feeling his grief but he keeps on with his tribute to George.
@Vince Gill 🔵 I have been your fan since 15 some years when I first listened ' Let me love you tonight " song.

I'm watching it about once a week. Words can't describe this fabulous tribute. I said it before and I'll say it again...he makes me proud to be an OKIE.
I just run across this one, but it brings tears in my eyes as well in 2021. I did see the same with Alan Jackson. It must be damn tough for them to give this performance on such a sad day. Hats off to them.
Maybe the most heartfelt guitar solo in music history. If this doesn't move you..
..you are not alive
I lost count of how many times I've rewatched this performance.. Admit it you too came on your own
I lost my Daughter on Dec. 4 2023 from drug overdose. I have listened this many times. It touches the heart deeply. and it helps me thru it.
I've listened to it many times. There are more polished performances, but the pure emotion on this one is so heartwarming. Kudo's to Patty Loveless for having his back.

Go face you pain alone somewhere.
Bring it up & get it out. Pray to God.
Then go back into the world with something nice to say.
Vince was too emotional to sing the song, then channeled that emotion into one of the most beautiful acoustic guitar solos I've ever heard.

Vince loved George and channeled it into that acoustic solo..so beautiful

I just lost my niece last week in a very tragic way, and I've been listening to this along with Vince and Carrie Underwood's performance of How Great Thou Art. I'm bawling my eyes out, but it does bring comfort as well.
This song was sung at my dad's funeral. ❤
We played this at my daughter's funeral last year.

It helps me every time. My family is dwindling. Just lost another sister On APril 30th. I’ll see them all soon ✝️✝️
My dad loved this song and played it to honor his dad. My dad died a week ago and I played for him at his funeral. I love you dad. Thanks for everything. I will see you again.
I am so sorry for your loss. 🥺❤️
My friend , your Dad obviously knew the Lord. May God give you and your family that only he can give in knowing that your beloved Dad is in Heaven with a new glorified body in the presence of our Father feeling a love like no other, and one day I am sure that you will be with him once again. I take peace in knowing where my loved ones are that knew the Lord. Let's pray for those who don't. God bless! ❤🙏☝☝☝☝
If you look closely Garth Brooks is the 1st person to stand up when Vince is struggling and that shows how much class he has.
I love George and I had my composure until I saw Garth stand up with tears flowing. 😭
I also loved how Patty kept him going when he couldn't use his words.
What a wonderful, wonderful, powerful gesture, supporting one another.
Bless you Mr Brooks!!!

Yes... much later I moved to Nashville and this , This is my most treasured moment... Hearts and voices holding one another together , through the pain of such a great soul's passing. This is what I felt when I held that little transistor radio to my ear, in the darkness far away in Michigan... so many years ago.
Patty Loveless is such a class act. What a woman.

How could she not be, after all she is a Ham Radio operator!
Love her devotion to bluegrass, Ralph Stanley and the history.
Didn't realize that my dad liked her for the bluegrass aspects of her work till now 10 yrs later.
Thank you all, Vince, Ralph, Bill and Patty.
Thank ou, thank you, thank you.
A moment like this is what separates country music from the rest of the slop that passes as music these days.
Well said jim
Just because you dont like other forms or styles of music don't think for a second theres zero slop in country music. Music still tells a story of hardships and pain. We must be numb to the deliverer and open to its message
I agree-Most of today's musicians , even the over hyped ones arent close to this talent.
Amén, well said.

I love how Patty takes over for him when he needs it. She has class
We can really see her watching him closely to have his back.
Absolutely she's the best but so is Vince so very great together
Patti saw it..she probably anticipated it knowing George and Vince's close relationship. I, actually did not anticipate that much emotion and it sucked me down with him in the vortex, and I had to turn it off. It was too much. My feelings about George and Vince's just created something that would only go downhill at the time..not bad or good, just paralyzing. I've been down that path before on LSD and I was not gonna revisit it on it's terms even though I was sober.
Very professional to step in and help when he breaks down and it's very difficult singing a song written about someone close... nm singing an emotional song... its the HARDEST THING TO DO
That part almost made me sob.
To, anybody who's reading this, I pray that whatever is hurting you or whatever you are constantly stressing about gets better. May the dark thoughts, the overthinking, and the doubt exit your mind right now.
May clarity replaces confusion. May peace and calmness fill your life. God bless you

This song was played today at the funeral of my father-in-Law (8/12/23). He was 89, served in Vietnam as a US Marine, and was married 64 years and had 4 children. In Sherman, Texas. A good man, father, and husband. Go Rest High Sir. You deserve it.
Thank you to your father in law for his service
I had this played for my 76 yr old brother's funeral. He passed away 3 years ago tomorrow (10/2/20). It keeps me calm every time I hear it and sing it and I couldn't be at his funeral so I asked they find a quartet to sing it, and they did. I hope it only brings you peace and joy (and tears) for many years because it was a wonderful tribute. We appreciate your father-in-law's service. I was USO 101st Aborne (1966-67) and lost many friends so I sing this song for everyone I've lost. I hope it brings the entire family peace and rest. It's a very high mountain.

Vince wrote that song for his brother after he passed. They were very close. Vince was also close to George. Patty and Vince go back forever, like brother and sister. Country is truly family. Garth showed some real class, after he stood everyone followed. I watched the funeral show and cried like a baby. Later Alan Jackson did George's signature song "He Stopped Lovin Her Today, he stumbled once when his voice broke, who else could have pulled that song off, like "No Pressure." A funeral to end all funerals, I think George is actually more popular today and will always be one of the greats. RIP George.

Yes, Vince has the most tender heart to even write & sing such a heavenly touching song of loss & inspiration, he is truly gifted, the way he sang her, draws me back to this version time & time again, Patti sings as beautiful with him, adding the fresh & past loss of a loved one, makes this song stronger with emotion, you did it perfectly Vince & Patti, very raw , emotional and heartfelt, I commend you to even sing at your dear friend's funeral making this even more challenging, to cry while singing and still come out with the perfect song.
My 21 y.o. daughter passed away in 2016. I miss her deeply, this song shoes how I feel.
I'm so very sorry. Your pain comes across in just those few words you posted. I'm sure you have beautiful memories of her. I hope your grief is now manageable. We don't know for sure, but think of it as "it's not goodbye, it's see you later", might bring you some comfort.
This is the song I picked for my grandfather's funeral... He passed 4 Months today from battling for lung cancer for many years. I'm on the verge of breaking down. I miss him so so much 😢 this song brings so much closure because the lyrics are spot on.
Belated Condolences to you and your family.
Patty Loveless, what an amazing woman and class act. Her voice is so hauntingly beautiful in this song and she handled the situation so perfectly. I don't think Vince could have asked for a better partner in this situation. Then to see Garth stand up and everyone else follow suit. This is the strength of Country music.
Amen
Bambam NJ Patty's sure got the high lonesome, I'd listen to her on this kind of stuff and forget the newer, this is what she was made for. And yes, no doubt she was hurting as bad as Vince, but kept that colossal voice together and got him through it.
Couldn’t have said it any better myself. Amen.
Perhaps the greatest country duet of all time
Agreed
Some human beings are more loving humble and gracious then we will ever truly know #PATTY 🫶🏽❤️🔥❤️🩹💝💖
That’s real, right there, no script, no rehearsal could ever prepare for raw emotion.
if you can watch this and NOT tear up then you have no soul....I am a wreck right now
Amen!!!!!!!!
Lee Creamer
So very true Lee, i was all ready tearing up thinking about Mom - Dad, & the others in the family that are now gone before Mr. Gill started to cry, & yes of course i would not be a true human being if i did not admit that i did cry right allong with him - it's just that much of a powerful song..
amen
I'm with ya, it tore me up !
Every time I see this video I tear up ever time George Jones was and always will to me be a country LEGENDARY SINGER
the part where Vince loses it, Patti takes over and Garth/Trisha stand up was the emotional highpoint of Ken Burns' 16-hour country music docuseries & an unforgettable example of what country music is all about.
I totally agree!
And the love they all have for one another
Garth and Trisha standing in respect. Vince and Patti were breathtaking.
Hello there, how are you doing today?
Nice meeting you here today?
Yes... They led the visual uprise of spirit and respect.
Hello Marie,how are you doing?🌹🌹
Can't stand garth brooks .he aint country ...hs a clown..
This may be....the most moving performance, I've ever heard?
If you can believe it, a short time later, Charlie Daniels passed and I rec'd an autographed fiddle of his. Truly....how great The Lord art.
How beautiful are the the feet of thoes that touch the hearts of people that know that there is a higher. Spirit. When Jesus know his time was getting close to leave the world he had compassion for his disciples. At the cross he prayed father forgive them for they know not what they our doing. As brother Vince and his sister sang for their brother what love came from there hearts they showed the same kind of love that Jesus showed. As he hung from the cross what a great day it's gone to be when gods children get home this song brings great joy to my life. I lost my sister in2020 from a broken heart. All she wanted was to see her grand children not just send money to them I pray her children can live with it it took my heart and this song brings me much comfort Jake Phillips let the world know children can hurt you more than any one knows thanks again Vince and patty for your love for your brother .
They passed 7 years apart. That’s hardly a short time later.
I agree
even Vince's guitar is crying
She's a great lady.
She’s definitely a guardian angel.
This rendition has helped me grieve for some people I’ve held dear.
Love this tribute to George Jones from Vince Gill & Patty Loveless. This is a beautiful and sincere performance. ❤🙏

I simply love this song. Patty kills it. The emotional singing from Vince breaks my heart. But the true under lining is I listen to this for my father that is in heaven. When he sings about “only you can know the pain”. That’s my father. Vietnam vet, raised hard and didn’t know any other way to raise my little ass. Love you pops/papa Joe. Wish you could have hugged your first granddaughter on this earth. She knows you and loves you. Thank you for watching over her.
Thanks for the huge love and support, I feel blessed to have you. Stay Safe! Hugs.
