A MUCH better review than the atrocious IGNorant one.
+sammyflinders Why? Because they gave your precious game a 7? They both say pretty much the same thing. SP is great but can get repetitive, and MP is average.
+ctrlSHIFT That's exactly right friend, as the majority of reviews concur, the title is more of an 8/8.5 out of 10 title. Given IGN love handing out 9's to COD titles I'm sure you can see why many gamers felt that the score for Doom was off the mark. Especially given the scores awarded to other competing titles in the genre. I guess if they wanna give it a 7 that's perfectly fine, but they should make sure their reasoning is consistent with the criteria they mark other titles by. I feel it wasn't.
they wouldn't let the guy who wanted to review doom at ign review it. they pretty much slammed doom because ID Software wouldn't pay them money for a good review as all other big gaming companies do. the dude that wanted to review it at IGN almost quit because of this shit. games radar gives it a 5/5 gamespew gives it a 10/10 bloody disgusting gives it 9/10. has 94% rating on steam. 4.5/5 from PC gamer. any thing that actually matters gave it a near perfect score.
+mikepshena and you think ign is the only source that accepts money? You basically said it yourself that the other company's take money too considering their painfully high scores. This Game is nothing more than 7.5 and you know it.
Sham Sher if I were to rate it I'd give it at 9/10 lol. So no, I don't know it. It is easily the best shooter to come out in years.
this review is a lot better than ign's hands down
Nguyễn Hải Dương true that, fucking cod lovers im not surprised if infinite warfare gets like a nine
Why cause this one agrees with your view of the game?
Nguyễn Hải Dương I honestly agree with everything u said
pryt86 yeah technically, plus the reviewer actually sounds like he put a good amount of time in the game, not like the reviewer from ign who sounded rushed only for a paycheck
Hector Yerena lol not everyone likes this type of game dude. Doesnt mean he rushed through it or didnt try to like it. Everyone has different thoughts and opinions.
You guys really gotta stop putting your score in the lower right corner of the screen, I swear I miss it every time.
+Comfy Couch Gaming me too I re winded like 2 times just to see it
+Comfy Couch Gaming Yeah I totally missed it too...
Yeah it should be the full screen always got to rewind lol
The score isn't the important part. The review is, not an arbitrary number.
+Damion Dixon (Deezyfesheezy)
The actual review was excellent It gave a lot of information but the score is pretty important to give a decent idea..
If it was a 2 it would be seen as awful
What does deserve a 10 is DOOM's Soundtrack, it's a masterpiece, especially if your are a metal/electronic fan. Mick Gordon is incredibly talented and has done an amazing job here. If you're into metal just listen to the track Rip and Tear, it will blow your face off.
What I've heard so far is only electronic, no metal. :l
+LordVader1094 you must be deaf, there is no electronic music I've h3ard.
It's like Cannibal Corpse and Type-O-Negative combined!
+LordVader1094 There is metal, it's more like industrial metal. Listen to BFG division if you want a metal track of the game.
+92dunbar Couldn't agree more.
8 is a fair score and I love the game
This review was excellent when compared to IGNs
+Gary Bell anything bearing the name of COD will get at least 9 from IGN
+fatcat sneezing Sadly.
+Gary Bell Sorry, but for once I actually agree with IGN's. The game isn't that great. the single player is somewhat fun and even now im debating whether or not to finish it. I have spent most of my time on Snapmap and still haven't published anything. As I have mentioned before Snapmap isn't a mod tool, which isn't going to help with the PC online community at all. For a console, Doom is an easy 8/10
+Gary Bell I sneezed the other day too hard and accidently shit myself. THAT was better then IGNs review.
+nightseifer lol
But dis game is not like cod, it is like da old doom. 7.1/10 -IGN
I didn't know IGN hired 12 year olds to do their reviews!
+Partyparasit6 but the multiplayer is almost like Quake, not call of duty
+Partyparasit6 have you even played a arena shooter before?
+Frank Delgado You can't even pick up other peoples weapons.
+Damion Dixon (Deezyfesheezy) i know becuz the multiplayer tried to take people attention with modern games concept like perks, ranking, and customizable item but with a mix of arena shooter
ign 7.1
too many demons
+hieu nguyen :
IGN - 7.1
"This game is not 'Call Of Duty' and everybody knows that 'COD' is the best series in the entire fucking universe. Screw this game and every other game that is innovating".
7.1
didnt receive a check by id software
+Jeremy Mariotti a check?
+1983Dave1983 ign is known for giving shit reviews to good games and great reviews to shit games and people believe this is because some developers pay ign to give their game a good review hence why cod gets like a 9/10 every year
+1983Dave1983 check or cheque dont know how tto say this in english not my native language
way more on point with 8.0 than ign's 7.1 garbage review.
SERIOUSLY. I'm convinced that if it isn't published by Activision, or a small handful of other companies, IGN isn't allowed to give in an 8 or higher.
***** you probably prefer to play COD every day with a bunch of racists and middle school kids. Totally understandable.
don't even play games. just doom classic on phone. guess I was expecting something else
***** seriously, why even say anything at all? Especially to insinuate that I'm somehow out of line for liking ot so much. That's just stupid.
Glad I made the right choice of choosing to watch GameSpot's review over IGN
This game is the best FPS since hell knows when. Deserves no less than a 9 or 10. There is no discussion about it.
+Jay Y Everyone is saying its repetitive in every review and it looks it and the online mode really is just dull. Its best at 8 honestly. Its worth getting of course but at abit of a price drop.
+Jay Y Ha that pun...
+Fate862 it's not about "looking" you have to play it. I can easily say every enemy encounter in Uncharted is repetitive and not to buy the game.
+Fate862 price drop..u dont realize hiw good this game really is and hiw mich content is in it..this is the best shooter this year easy
+Unrighteous King boring? have u actually played it? i just finished it and i want to start it over again...i NEVER do that...
it's apparent the Only reason people watch reviews is so they can have their own opinions backed by another source
that's right, and game review isn't the only thing, it applies almost for everything
Nah, not entirely. I mean......I've never played DOOM and by the way the game is looking, running, and playing, I'm definitely getting it. Just wanted to see the flaws is all.
Exactly I feel like people rely on reviews as a source of how good or bad a game is when they can be so fucking wrong sometimes
1301407gl That is actually true.
Better than IGN's review, but deserves a 9 instead. Also as for the "modern shooters could learn a thing from Doom's honed and unaltered identify" comment: take a good look Activision & Call of Duty.
+cha0s506605 Yo dumbass he said cod could learn a thing or two from doom. He was not saying it's better
Og Lemons
_"-take a good look Activision & Call of Duty."_
After: _"-"modern shooters could learn a thing from Doom's honed and unaltered identify"..."_
Which means, modern shooters could learn a thing from CoD, go back to primary school, you shouldn't have graduated yet.
+cha0s506605 You are the stupid one.... The modern shooters.. a.k.a Call of Duty could learn from DOOM, which implies that CoD and other modern shooters could and should borrow some elements from DOOM. Your comment makes no sense.
+cha0s506605 lol you're an idiot. black ops 3 sold 22 mil copies it was best selling game of last year. that's sure dropping fast. when people like you make comments you do any research or do you just talk out of your ass. you can hate Call of Duty all you want but to say it's dropping it's completely false that sells the most at at every game.
The Dude Ok you're right.
9*
exactly. uncharted gets a 10/10 with ultra laggy mp and doom makes everything right and gets an 8? get your scores right
Yep.solid 9/10 for me just cause mp lack maps and modes like free for all.
Other than that snap map is fun and campaign is a joy to play and a breath of fraish air.
+Major Kale If Uncharted multiplayer is lagging you should get your Internet fixed because I've put in at least 8 hours without a single bit of lag.
13 hrs lol. Hell playing on easy will take 8 hrs so dont lie man.
And doom and uncharted are not the same kind of game.
And im sorry but a shooter doesn need a damn story and character development to be great.
they didn't touch enough on the amazing upgrades u can get for every weapon. sure they talked about micro missiles and the auto shotgun upgrade but they didn't stress how epic some of the other ones are. that was probably the best part of DOOM for me. I'd give it a 9 for sure
+Dward O Most of the reviews gloss over the character progression mechanics because they want to focus on how awesome the combat is, but the progression is a huge part of the game
+Dward O IGN didnt even mentioned the upgrades. Be happy.
+Dward O i agree brother but all in all, I would say it is an honest review. Im in your boat tho, this game is just a fucking blast
+WeeWeeJumbo It really is. And a lot of the immersion is text based as well. Reading all of the files in environments, monsters, workers, weapons etc..Adds so much to the game. The ruin trials, the 2 separate weapon mods for each gun, all of the secrets, etc the replayability is off the charts. The old classic maps, how faithfully designed the demons are to the original (the cacodemon is absolutely STUNNING they did such a great job) I can't stop gushing about this game. They did everything right. The music is on point too it's just...damn. And the story is really well crafted too. It's simple but fantastic.
I just love the part where the reviewer seems to know how to play video games...IGN and Polygon could probably learn a thing or two about this.
the clips are from the guy who played ultra nightmare difficulty
and oh he finished it :)
Except he was using a controller. That part still bummed me out.
It's plainly obvious he's using a controller. I don't think this particular player was on Ultra-Nightmare, because his feet are planted firmly on the ground and he's spending more time with the right stick than the left. This whole time watching the review, I wondered, why don't they pick skilled players to show off the game?
They don't need skilled players to show off the game...it wouldn't get them more views...this sites mostly need, you know, someone who knows how to play videogames, which is something not every site is willing to do.
Damn the game is stunning visually.
+TheTinyTimmyTimTim it really is. iD are still on top of it
This game deserves at least a 9... but sure, it's not COD or Battlefield and reviews sites like this are in love with those games even if they review pretty much the same game year after year.
battlefield doesnt come out every year
+skaterFORever11 It comes out enough to know it is shit now.
+Harry Murray battlefield 4 was the last dice battlefield which came out when ps3 was the current system
skaterFORever11 And it was the worst game they have ever released. Your point being?
+Harry Murray "RELEASED" its a better game now that every thing is fixed. Same happened to bf3
If you get shitted on in multiplayer, I expect you to hate this game.
truth lmaoooo
+FizzzyFizzz I got the game for story mode. I came even in five games I played in the Doom mp if I stayed with it I think id end up wrecking at the game but if i'm going to play MP I would way rather play battlefield or battlefront type games.
+jesse dupere I hear you, I'm just saying as a whole though. The single player is everything I wanted in a doom game, it's great. But some guys will say the game sucks just because they're not good in multiplayer.
FizzzyFizzz Yeah i'm sure they will them are the cheap people that cry over a game that does not last them all year. Many people I know on my list playing the same damn game all year or longer idk how many people on my list still playing destiny and evolve. I buy around 2 games a month I have money I move on.
the campaign is amazing the multiplayer is not thought. ..
"...unleashing a mortar-like cluster bomb from your double-barreled best friend." Pretty sure that's an upgrade for the single-barrel shotgun. And this game deserves a 9.
I understand why people want this game to be a 9/10, it's just so much fun, I have personally not had this much fun in a shooter since Halo 3. But I understand the reviewer, game sure lacs twist and turns both story-wise and environmental, but on the fun-scale it's a solid 10/10.
I think the level design is a worthy successor to the original Doom in spirit. The platforming isn't awkward or tiresome.
+Chris Merritt I think its better just because of today's technology.
Raging karma
Can't disagree with that.
+Chris Merritt The platforming is pretty great. It's like Metroid Prime on speed. It's a lot of fun darting around and jumping from ledge to ledge while being chased by demons.
+Christopher Blair double jump fire a rocket at a demon beneath you turn around and shotgun to the face of the fucker chasing you. yeeaaaah
Best game I've played in a few years, hands down.
the only people who don't like this game are the same people who sucks at the multiplayer
+Fernando Ramirez i love this game but the multiplayer is fucking garbage and boring.
yaa mate indeed
+Fernando Ramirez Or they just like their games a bit less dumb, loud and adolescent. This is a fucking game for idiots, neckbeards and teenage boys who listen to metal and have no social skills. Some people want more from a game than shooting shit over and over again.
+Eric WR If it wasn't for games like this you would have NO wine!
+Fernando Ramirez I'm good at most all the MP games I play and I don't like Dooms MP the single player is fun tho. I don't like Uncharted 4 MP either i'm more into battlefield and battlefront type MP games. I bought both Uncharted 4 and Doom though because the single player games on them are awesome.
All these reviewers are saying the single player is repetitive, but that's like saying reading a book gets repetitive the longer you read. It's the quality of the story that keeps you engaged. Or in the case of video games, the gameplay. And DOOM fucking nails it!
This game reminds me of Bulletstorm. Predictable but a shit ton of fun to play.
Too many people try to relate this to COD, BF, Halo or any other modern shooter. This is a completely different category of shooter. This is an Arena Shooter like Quake 3 Arena as far as Multiplayer goes. All these other shooters out there are not Arena shooters. Don't give it a bad review because you don't like Arena shooters. This is a true arena shooters and one of the best ones out there. As for the Campaign... This is not suppose to be heavily story driven because then it wouldn't be Doom. All Doom ever was is a fast paced run & gun blood bath with tons of ammo and tons of monsters rushing you all at one time. It was meant to be more about action, speed, tons of ammo, big demons, violence, and for all that to be over the top intense action from start to finish. If you loved Doom 1 & 2 this is definitely your game and if you love Arena shooters and enjoyed Q3 Arena then you will love the online modes too. If you expect this to be like other shooters you're missing the point and probably won't like it because other shooters is something this was never meant to be.
the metal music in this game, just gets the blood pumping really hard.
demonpride1975 the music in this game is fucking legendary
Not enough reviews mention Mick Gordon's incredible soundtrack and how perfectly it's implemented and synced with the combat. It makes the game for me.
review was awesome.....i just disagree wit every reviewer that says about every games multi-player that it brings nothing new there's nothing else new u can bring to multi-player having games lose points because of this
I absolutely love Doom, and I haven't even beat the campaign yet. From what I played from the beta and the full game, I love the multiplayer. I might get shit for this but it reminds me of classic Halo in an way, and I love it. It's refreshing to play an game that's not Cod
amazing single player , fun multiplayer
awsome game
Loved the detail in this review; no story exposition, just gameplay and game design details. Props to the reviewer. This is how reviews should be done IMO
And people don't get its just someones opinion. If you like the game good for you. They can't tell you what your gonna like
The most fun in a FPS campaign i have had in many years !
I bought my copy for $37 today for PC
+Gourry Ibuki www.g2a.com/r/doom-special
same
Gamespot you guys do solid review videos. Good amount of gameplay footage, great sound/picture.
This game, imo deserves a 9/10, even 9.5/10. But we can´t forget that we have to review the WHOLE game, and unfortunately the mp is part of the whole game, that´s why the grade it taken down to an 8
+RedHawk13 If it released with just the SP, would you put the score back up? If so, then I kinda see that as illogical for notching down the rating over an additional mode.
Squall Leonhart Well yes, because the MP and SP are part of the same game, therefore they get a grade as a whole. If they were to be released seperatedly then they´d each have their own score.
If Gamespot gave a popular game a bad score then IGN would hailed as great.
Anyone who plays Doom with gamepad should be sent to Hell
I love how everyone hates on ign for giving it a 7 and loves gamespot for giving it an 8. People acting like ign gave it a 3 and gamespot a 9. This game is 10 btw, the best FPS of all time
It's so painful to watch someone play this game with a controller.
Nope
why, controls better than a keyboard. you might have a point with the old doom where your couldn't move 360° , but now, a controller works much better. trust me I play PC as well.
rapinbatches
It's just so clumsy. Just take a close look at the video, when playing with a controller he has a hard time aiming at the enemies. Instead he just slightly strafe left and right to adjust his aim instead of rotating the camera. This lack of precision is not an issue with a mouse (or a Track pad kind of thing like on the Steam controller). To not have that disadvantage, most game that are played with a controller have some sort of sticky targeting. For example, the COD games are very playable with a controller for this very reason. But sticky targeting is kinda useless in a game where you have to move a lot (Doom or Unreal Tournament for example).
Anyway, in the review, you can clearly see how in the parts that are played with a mouse and keyboard, the player is much more agile and accurate.
+foufoufun0 literally the same thought crossed my mind word for word 5 seconds into the video.
+foufoufun0 eh, to me the controlers camera is more stable than mouses. they just all of the place. but a controller has limitations
I pre ordered Doom and I don't regret it. The campaign basically brought doom back to it's roots of doom 1 & 2 and it actually feels like a Doom game unlike Doom 3. So, in that respect it has an amazing run & gun blood bath campaign.I was in the multilayer beta and they actually did it right this time. Quake 3 Arena had the best multiplayer of all ID games and Doom basically brings back the Q3 Arena awesomeness I loved, but in the Doom universe. As far as Arena FPS games go this is the best one to come out since Q3 arena.I love Arena shooters and I have wanted a modern Doom campaign for so long and I have also been waiting for years for a game with Q3 Arena multiplayer.... Doom does both these things really well!I played the Overwatch beta too and I decided not to get it and instead pre ordered Doom. I don't regret my decision for a minute!
This has got me pumped for the switch version 😉
I'm sorry, I didn't realize most multiplayer shooters had game modes with freeze tag or a moving capture the area...
the games creators should make a Duke Nukem game!
+Amp These people understand that in some games, people want to carry more than 2 weapons at a time.
Those Glory Kills are the one that make this game stand out. Even having that feature made me want to buy IMMEDIATELY.
this game Deserves 9
Only thing they could've done better was the atmosphere and lighting in some of the levels to give it that classic doom 1-3 feel not knowing when something was gonna pop out and attack but other than that they did a great job
Ugh the gaming community sucks, they literally bring up Call of Duty and IGN whenever it is possible
@4:33 - That's one evasive explosive barrel lol
hory shet
One of the only triple A titles of recent memory to not be plagued by a lack of its own identity.
It knows what it is and delivers on these ideas perfectly. Its not for everyone but it doesn't need to be.
Multiplayer sucks
Multiplayer is fun!
I concur
+Travis Mobley huh its okey
+FizzzyFizzz negative
+somemadcaaant positive!
If you buy doom now it is a solid 9. I only say that because its 30 dollars and getting a long action packed story mind you what doom is known for it deserves a 9. However thats my opinion. The multilayer is pretty dull and doesn't stand out but that is an add on to an already amazing game. Its like skyrim or Fallout where its mostly about the campaign, but no one seemed to complain that it was just story. So I think the review should be based on the campaign alone. That is just my thoughts though
The single player looks sick and customization looks great, but seems to lack in multiplayer modes. I have a feeling it would get old pretty quick after beating the single player campaign.
Waited years for this game. it was worth the wait. i started the game on the third highes difficulty so that later i can take on the ultra nightmare without destroying my controller. Great graphic, awesome demons, and brutal execution to satisfy your lust for killing demons.
I had a worry about me, an old dude not used to play games that are too fast, having migrains, because of the too much action, and difficulty to play or trying to because too many buttons... well I bought it (on ps4), no migrains, and I, a noob, can play... damn... it is even relaxing.
a really good review (can't say the same about IGN) the platforming is not a con tho it makes the game more fun jumping and climbing away from demons
0:52 some killer shooting right there bro.
I really like the Keys and Skulls, I'm glad they brought that over from the original. It makes it more than just a mindless shooter. In fact, I wish it was even more maze like, like the originals.
This is why I love Gamespot. They review games reasonably (8 is a totally reasonable score for DOOM 4). Good job guys! :)
I wonder why they didn't mention the popular modes that people actually play. Soul Harvest, Freeze Tag, and Clan Arena are 3 other game modes for Multiplayer that are refreshing, exciting and thrilling as hell all at the same time.
Not to mention they scratched the surface on SnapMap. I don't remember him saying anything about being able to make Capture the Flag, Deathmatch, and Cooperative missions through SnapMap. Which all have very in depth options and choices.
I'm leaning towards getting this again, I really hope they mod it to have more Brutal-Doom-type gibbing. That's the one thing that left me feeling "meh". The shotgun and chain gun to feel as destructive as Brutal Dooms many gun mods and add-ons.
My favorite part of DOOM? Mowing everything down with the triple mini gun. so fucking satisfying
I'm not even into FPS games but I REALLY want to play this. It looks so much fun!!! Maybe I find it appealing because its campaign is said to be like 90's classic shooter campaigns? Which is funny becauseI never grew up in the 90s lol
campaign 9/10
multiplayer 5/10
snapmap 7.5/10
imo
Love how there's no modern balls; dumb markers, regenerating health and cover system. Fair play for not going down that road and keeping it real. Still a modern game in many regards but nice to see a nod to older gamers that remember that good old shiiiiit
I wish the multiplayer guns had the same level of progression and customisation as their campaign counterparts, it's quite boring using the exact same gun and not being rewarded for using it more often.
That reason alone should keep it at a 7-8/10
i agree, i reckon 9. they get bonus points for not following the crowd. multiplayer need some tweaking but the campaign is amazing. there is a lot of story if you collect of the data entries. it just isn't spoon fed to you because we aren't babies any more.
Great game overall. Multiplayer is flawed however as it tries to take twitch shooters of years past and shoehorn in weapon loadouts, awkwardly balanced demon powerups, and rather bland weapons that fail to give the player a nice feeling of impact. SnapMap is amazing and I hope it continues to be supported. Single player is doom and feels like doom. Fast paced and each shot fired feels like it really has power behind it.
wasnt scary enough, wasnt dark enough, wasnt satanic enough.....but it sure as hell is fun enough.
Oh and the super shotgun (even fully upgraded) is pretty damn weak.
solid 8/10
Is the single player story any good? I just want this for the story.
Gotta laugh at IGNs review when comparing it to this one. They call out multiplayer saying "we've played it all before" and lowers its score because of that yet give cod 9s every year and call it's multiplayer great. Gamespot is pretty spot on here.
Doom's campaign is the best I've ever played. I have never had that much fun since I first played MW1. And I've had plenty of fun on SnapMap.
Seeing an 8 on DOOM is actually perfectly fine for me. I can't argue that the game is fun and tips it's hat to the original very well. Seeing this come back is just so refreshing to see and having a fun shooter to mess with is just what adds the charm. It will go down as an instant classic just as the original doom was 20 years ago.
The multiplayer was slow paced. I was constantly the top scorer just by using the rocket launcher or supershot gun. Most of my matches were just my team hunting down the left over team due to most of them rage quiting which made the game very slow. My solution for multiplayer is to just add a free for all mode and make it the prime focus
The SP campaign and snap map are great. I just wish that the MP played more like Q3 arena. The load outs just don't work for me. It could also do with private play and bots. Other than that this is a great game I can see me getting quite creative with snap map. Graphicaly it holds up well and running at a constant 60fps is a rare thing. most other game the framerate jumps around all over the place. I'd give it an 8.5. Had the MP been more like Q3 arena's I would give it a 9. Yep I agree with evryone else IGN's review stunk.
I've almost beaten the game on PC and I have to say, this is a masterpiece! The fast gameplay, the badass metal music, the gore! For once I can say that $60 was well spent on a game.
Now remake Duke Nukem!!!
I didn't find the platforming unpleasant or awkward in the slightest, personally. I actually felt it was handled pretty well compared to other shooters that try to shoehorn that kind of thing in.
I'd give it a 9, but all of your points were solid. Took an absolute shit on IGN's shit review
I just assembled a monster pc, after years playing on consoles, and I wonder if this game is best played with keyboard+mouse or with an xbox type controller?. I am used to the game controller but I wonder if those using keyboard/mouse may have an endge in multiplayer?...
Calling this game repetitive is not accurate. Every fight in this game requires multiple tactics, the AI is crazy smart, and there's powerups. Plus there's no regenerating health. This what a violent video game is supposed to be. You know what's repetitive? literally EVERY OTHER SHOOTER SINCE 2006.

been playing for 2 days now...
Best FPS campaign I've played in forever..
amazingly intense multilayer..
and the snapmap is just too good to describe, hands down the best system I've seen since Shadow of morders nemesis system...
I give it a 10...
I ve played only singleplayer, from torrent and it kicks ass! so frenetic, so notCOD. you have to move just like in MP games to survive. Graphics are stunning! Id say 9/10
im glad you talked more about the campaign and snap map, than IGN ty GameSpot
This game is easily 9,5. One of the best shooters in history. Even the soundtrack is a masterpiece.
Multiplayer is fun. I have no idea of the progression in the game is extremely easy or what. But god damn this game is amazingly fun online.
I gave this game 10 out of 10. It is brilliant in its simplicity, yet viscerally rewarding. The core gameplay is heart pumping, and really keeps you engaged. I'm going for the second playthrough. A msterpiece of old school, hardcore gaming for the veterans.
no aim down sights in this game.. I wonder why?
See CoD/Activi$ion... THIS is what we want, a challenging FPS with complex arena size maps than don't suffer from corridor syndrome.
Hey look an actual good and in depth review on this game. Actually giving reasoning to what they are saying and not just "eh I didn't like it just wasn't my thing."
There isn't enough variety with glory kills, there's like 6 per imp/soldiers etc bigger demons all have 2...
An advert for Doom on a review of Doom
10/10 product placement.
Largely agree with this review. Doom is beautiful shooter with nice weaponry, but also with dull, confusing maps, absent story and repetitive game play. Therefore I would also give it a 8.
Good review, and fair score objectively. For me it was 10/10 in part because of admitted fanboyism which I will gladly revel in for self-enjoyment. But, on top of that - even though the game wasn't perfect, there's just so little like it nowadays. Where the multiplayer seems embroiled in a bit of an identity crisis, the single player has no such problem. Rife with more guns, guts, and demons than you can shake a stick at, it's everything I hoped it would be.
If there is one thing this game does well. It's making me wish there was a new unreal tournament game to play. The multi player in this just seemed to be lacking and UT would fill that gap nicely.
+SuperLadMan There is a new UT, it's in open source development. You could start playing it now, look it up.
Got this for $48. No sweat. Definitely about a 9 but I understand the 8 just because it's nothing apparently new.
If you have played doom's predesessors you will love this game multi and single player, if you haven't played doom but you have low expectaions for multiplayer you will love this game, if you are new to doom and have high expectaions for multiplayer you are in for a dissapointing ride since this game favors experienced doom players. Single player is great even for newbies though
This is an honest review I would give doom an 8.5 only because I got wolfenstein the old blood as a preorder bonus unlike ign who gave it a 7 who probably never played doom
I would say this game is a 9/10 and nothing less. It doesn't try too hard to establish itself.. It's an honest, simple, over the top demon killing fest with plenty of blood, guts and amazing music.
