Hi Tony ~ I had coffee with Pat Metheny in Montana to talk about guitar- He said, “John, take a beginning Jazz Piano class”. You have filled in all the blanks with your music conversation’s Thanks much Tony
What a fantastic lesson! Thank you very much!!on top of that, Your explanation on the diminished chords has ecpellled all my fears and doubts whenever I see them....i always tried to ignore them. Now no more fear thanks to you!!
It means #9 . There is an F in the melody. I can show you many other examples. I'm 100 % sure on this. Look at this video at 40 seconds. The F#7(#9) is written out and the chord symbol has the +9. That is why I hate this style of notation because it causes the kind of confusion that you are experiencing. ua-cam.com/video/Y0lYQ1z_1SY/v-deo.html

Thanks for the great teaching as always 👍🎉🎉
At 60, I learned to play piano using chords in the left hand, melody in right. I can play almost anything (popular) but my music lacks SOUL.
Thanks so much
Superb lesson Tony. Make it look so easy. Loved the little blue scale improv for a jazz beginner like me. Nice one cheers
Very nice lesson! Loved it all... especially the last chorus where you were kind of "showing off" Great stuff!

I don't believe the + 9 means a #9.
