AUGSBURG: IS videos and violent fantasies! Terror attack on Christmas market planned - What we know
The Bavarian police may have prevented an attack on the Augsburg Christmas market. A 37-year-old asylum seeker from Iraq was arrested on Wednesday evening after allegedly spying on the market and sharing IS propaganda on social media. He is also alleged to have been in contact with members of the so-called Islamic State. A foreign intelligence service alerted the German authorities to the man's conspicuous internet behavior. The suspect, who came to Germany in early 2023 and applied for asylum, is now in custody pending deportation. Security authorities are investigating whether he acted alone or had support.
