Thanks Mike for the insight. Strangely I had experienced same situ setting up VLC as my default player. So many file types to link to VLC! Some file types not heard of lol Never thought to set Opera as default. Have a good day Mike and Kath👍
I use brave on windows 10, When I got my new pc I upgraded, Then when I download brave and went to default apps I was confused so this video helped a lot!

Thaks for this how-to, Mike and Kath! Not a fan of Chrome (Sorry, Chrome-fans!) I used to be a huge fan of Firefox (except once when it ate all of the RAM (4 GB) with 4 tabs open). When Edge was out in beta version (later 2019), I downloaded it and haven't got any issues. The only thing I do is change the default search engine (Bing is as useful as a dead 1 TB HDD I still have somewhere).

windows 10 has some charm but all the bad bits of 11 and now being inserted into 10 so it makes no difference which you use, that is why i haven't done a "downgrade" video, as there is no point and you will soon lose the security updates so it is actually a risky thing to do if you use any form of online shopping or banking
not solve the Yahoo problem McAfee uses Yahoo as its Safe Search and must utilize some type of hijack software. Windows 11 does bnot permit the simple Default Search Engine switch
Edge is a good browser, but that's not the point. As a user you should be able to select the browser of your choice without jumping through ANY hoops. I really hope Microsoft will change this, but sometimes it just seems like they just enjoy antagonizing people who use their OS...or they simply don't care

Thanks Mike… new laptop 5 weeks ago…and have spent 3 hours on different YT channels to get rid of the million defaults….and micro and partners trying to get me to buy storage or software… DO IT NOW…. I saw a video that Microsoft is trying to change a setting soon that WILL NOT let you change the default browser when u r in a website and click a link to go to the next site…. I thought this was deemed illegal
I can not find google chrome in my default apps. I think i deleted it but i dont know how to get it back in my default apps. Has anybody else experienced this?
Not surprised it's easier to switch back from Google Chrome to Edge Browser. They sure make it a chore to switch each file type to Chrome. But that's probably part of Billl Gates sinster plan!! I still haven't made the move to Windows 11 yet. I use Chrome for all web browsing. Edge is pretty awful.
agreed! MS could have the market all to themselves if Edge / Bing wasn't so bad, but being that the share holders have shares in MS and alphabet they won't care which you use in the end
This is what happens when you're given a new operating system, what did we expect, this is Microsoft...the GOD of all operating systems and what makes this even worse, Edge is using the Chromium system, I think Google should sue them!
For those who agree that Microsoft Edge sucks: I also hate Microsoft Edge, because, during the process of installing Unity, I would click on the sign up Unity thing, but instead, THEY JUST OPENED MICROSOFT EDGE INSTEAD OF GOOGLE! So this is the reason why I hate Microsoft Edge and I also think it is also useless.

the play store works in windows okay but it isn't the same as the mobile version

But google chrome is not an option in default apps out of the box, that’s all I need to know is how to make it an option.

Personally I'm not a fan of chrome so I set up Vivaldi as my default browser. Great tip though 👍.

Isn't this like changing chrome to chrome. As Edge uses the chromium engine edge is now essentially chrome anyway
sort of but edge has weird ways and likes to default to bing and other odd choices which for me make browsing a pain
