Oh my god! I had this problem when I downloaded chrome but whenever I clicked a link it sent me to edge to deal with it but now that I found this video it saved me and chrome! I really appreciate it!!
Hey got this question....yes edge has hijacked my machine and I don't like being forced into using it. I see that chrome is my default browser, but it never opens up when I start up my machine....can you help with this.
I've never had a machine with S mode, so no, I didn't need to. I don't really recommend S mode. It causes more confusion & frustration than is warranted.
@@RobertSpiller I'm not sure what that means in this context. You don't get to Edge by going THROUGH Chrome. If Edge fires up with the search results, then Edge is where your search results will be. If you don't want that then don't use Windows search, but instead fire up Chrome itself and use Google (or whatever search engine) within Chrome.
@@askleonotenboom Sorry, I mean that edge acts like the default browser. When I fire up my laptop, edge is there automatically....I'm wondering how I can make google chrome my default browser meaning that it fires right up when I turn on my laptop. And one more thing....which browser do you prefer, edge or goole?
@@RobertSpiller No browser should open just by opening your laptop. You might want to check the startup tab in TaskManager, or the Startup folder in your Start Menu (run "shell:startup"). Honestly I have six browsers installed (it's part of what I do :-) ) They all have their pros and cons. I'm happy in Edge (my default browser on my current machine), but also run Chrome along side.
When you make the change, do you lose all your saved passwords, favorited sites, and other setup stuff? I've only had my computer for a few weeks, but have set up tons of stuff.
I use Startpage as my homepage in Firefox, my default browser (on Mac). I only use Edge for Twitter. It seemed like my Edge homepage was showing me ads based on my Startpage searches in Firefox. Pretty specific targets, and popping up the same day as the searches. I was creeped out and just blanked my Edge homepage. How would Edge track searches in Firefox? Are Startpage's privacy claims baloney?
God knows why people love Chrome over Edge when it lacks even basic bookmark management features. Not talking about Collections in Edge. 1. Recently deleted so you can recover accidentally deleted bookmark 2. Duplicate finder for bookmarks 3. Find bookmarks is not possible from the top down menu in Chrome. You got to open the bookmark manager.
Last week I began setting up my new PC which has Windows 11 installed. I was sure I downloaded Google Chrome. Its icon shows up on my desktop and also my task bar. But every time I open Google Chrome and use it, I receive a message at the top of the screen stating that Google Chrome is not my default browser. However, when I go to Apps>Default Apps I see NO Google Chrome in the list! It's not even in the Installed Apps list! Where is it? Did I install Google Chrome incorrectly? If so, how is it working on my PC with the icons visible? Apparently things have changed in the past 11 months since you posted this video. We need an update, please!
Installing it and using it is NOT the same as setting it as your default browser. That message usually has a "set as default" option which will do it for you.
For some reason something went wrong when I first attempted to install GC. So I opened File Explorer>Downloads, Rt clicked on ChromeSetup, and THAT properly installed my Google Chrome and enabled me to set it as the default. Thanks so much for all your great advice.

You gave really bad advice at @4:18. It's all that one SHOULD NOT do; nothing good comes from setting any of those to default, unless one plans to never use Chrome again. I simply don't understand all the debates over "default" browsers. Who in the real world actually launches their browser that way? Your answer "Just download Chrome and start using it" agrees with my thinking. There is little to no reason to care what the default is. But actually, we should care, in that seriously, we should never ever ever want a web browser that we use daily to ever actually be our default browser. The entire f---king point of even having a default browser configured is to catch pages launched unexpectedly by applications or malware without user intention. The idea is to reduce the chances that unwanted content would open in the main browser that I actually use, polluting its cookies, history, etc. Every computer needs to have at least two different browsers installed so that there can be one the user doesn't use and don't mind crap being sent to. Other than this, what other purpose could setting a default browser even serve? We manually launch our main browsers via a shortcut to the browser; and never intentionally via file extensions or other sorts of content handlers. So how does "default" even apply?!
Microsoft business practices are annoying at best and lawsuit worthy at worst. If you want someone to use your product, make a better product, don't try to hijack users or force them to use it, or make it more difficult than necessary to switch.

Yes. This is one reason why password managers that work in multiple browsers are preferable to letting browsers remember passwords.
