BUT, when I attempted to go further....went to "start" and then hit "gp" to cue group edits, this never came up....even if I typed in the full gpedits. It simply said "nothing found." It's a real shame that you need the Pro version of Windows to access the Group Policy editor and disable copilot altogether. I know that there are other ways to get around this in the Home Editions but after experiencing the complete borking which was Windows 11 on a latptop for over a year, I don't think that installing third-party hacks would be beneficial for me nor the laptop.
Thanks. You've saved me time from searching why I couldn't access Group Policy Editor. There are ways to get cheap windows keys, it's unfortunate that we even have to do all this nonsense in the first place.
I use to have these same problems there are commands that you can type in to fully enable gpedit.msc (group policies) while still running a home edition of windows, i used these quite frequently rather than just wiping a system and puting pro onto it. Hope this helps.
Followed your great steps. Although i had to enable group policies manually i was still able to enable turing co-pilot off. However, even after reboot, co-pilot came up while using my touchpad mouse. There a "gesture" there i don't know how to remove and it still brings up co-pilot. Thoughts?

Thanks for the video. I followed your video finding all the icons missing but bing still appears. I re-ran the video at registry edit -- went back to where explorer was entered only to find under explorer was windows copilot. I went in to windows copilot changed the (1) to (0). Restarted machine - bing came back.
Bing was removed using instructions from his last video. Windows updated and it came back and is now refusing to leave. Followed instructions but there it remains in my start menu. I don't know if anything has changed since this video was posted. I look forward to a follow up if one's in the cards.
I'm not sure if MS changed things but after editing the policy and signing out/back in Copilot is still available as an option in Taskbar settings (disabled) and if I hit Win-C it re-installs it then it's back.
Hi, I couldn't find gpedit because I use Windows 11 Home, but I was able to find a different method. You just have to open Registry Editor again, and go to the same folder. But this time make a new key called WindowsCopilot, and a new DWORD called TurnOffWindowsCopilot. Same thing as disabling Explorer, so set it to 1 then restart your computer.' Hopefully you see this comment and pin it so that other Windows 11 Home users can see it!
This video is a life saver Because I was struggling to get rid of the Copilot icon from the Windows Search menu and Edge (despite WinKey + C still opening Edge) But I can rest easy with Copilot essentially nuked from my PC, and I have Registry backed up into an external file I can just import on each update, should each update revert certain registry files
At 7:00 I did it all but I was just wondering how...for a lack of a better term...how permanent is Copilot/Recall now removed off my system? Once it's been removed/disabled is there a chance that it might just "turn on" or reinstall itself?
Hello, yes that is a very real and very likely possibility. MS are heavily invested in this and as such want you to use it, even if you don’t. So future patches are highly likely to reinstall features you remove. That said if (and more likely when) this happens let me know and if I can find a fix then I will update this video with a new one. To me personally I don’t really mind that it’s there and I rarely use it myself. But I understand people have issues with MS simply bolting in new things you don’t ask for and people wanting more control over their system. Thanks for watching and the great question.
When I open registry app it will not let me go further. Asks if I want to run app see how. Then I try the link and still does not take me to H information
The biggest problem, i dont want to hide these invasive programs, i want them completely gone. I dont want a single character of code remaining on my computer. Its absolutely rediculous that im forced to have these programs track everything i do.
I did exactly as you showed to disable copilot. In gpedit, the status for "turn off windows copilot" is enabled. i have logged out and back in again but when i press "windows + c" copilot still opens? do you have any idea whats happening?
It should apply after a log off… but if it’s not try and force an update but doing the following…open up a command as admin as running ‘gpupdate /force’ and restart the pc
Hello thanks for this video was very helpful. I do have a Question, on windows 10 there was the light gray box on the right bottom side (next to calendar & time) on my laptop when I clicked on it all the tabs would hide at the same time or whatever website or app I was on, sine upgrading to windows 11 it has disappeared. Is there a way to bring that back? IM SORRY I DONT KNOW THE NAME OF THAT FEATURE : ((
Hello, I assume you mean that it went to show the desktop? In the latest windows 11 it’s still available but switched off and replaced with the copilot icon. To turn it back on, open settings using Windows+I. Go to personalization, taskbar, taskbar behaviours and choose ‘select the far corner of the taskbar to show desktop’. Now you should see a faint vertical line appear when you put your mouse cursor in the far right. Click it to show desktop, again to return to having the open windows show. You can use ‘Windows+D’ for the same thing. Hope that helps my friend. Have a great day!
I followed you direction on disabling copilot, by hitting enable, sign out and sign in. When I log back in, windows + C shows it is still there. I watched your video over and over so I am sure I did every step. Any ideas? Thanks
Thank you. Somehow, co pilot is still showing on my windows 11 pc. When i click start, and click in the address bar the icon is still there. I followed all the directions. I even followed Bing's directions to remove it.
Interesting, I assume the same methods can be used in WIN 10 as I have absolutely NO intention of switching to Win 11. That said, what I want to do is NOT just to disable, Bing, Edge, Defender. Because I use NON Microsoft software for those functions, and I OBJECT to MS garnering my activity and other data. I want to completely remove those MS apps from my PC, because each time there's a Windows Update they get reinstated if they are simply disabled. Is this possible in Win10 I expect there are a lot of other people with the same request?
Yeah, I'm in the same position as yourself i have windows 10 and have no intention of getting win 11, but i can't find the option (more settings) under privacy & security it's not there, so can't turn off option ... Show search highlights. This must be an option on win 11 not 10 so i cant move forward .
@@angief892 Actually, I came accross the solution yesterday purely by accident, I have been having issues with Microsoft, so entered a query into the search bar (next to the Win icon" the question was "How to delete MS Edge" to my surprise, the MS AI bot responded and told me exactly how to remove Edge from win 10, also how to remove Defender. The browser I am using is Brave, I asked the AI if the edge removal would cause a problem, it said it would not.
Doesn't seem to be possible. I acquired this _spyware_ yesterday. Microsoft snuck it on to my computer (without permission) disguised as a regular "update", and I've been searching for a way to remove it ever since. I'm not generally helpless around my computer and am familiar enough with the program files, etc to get most things organised the way I want, but... The problem is that _you can't actually find it anywhere._ Many are saying this is because it is not installed at all, but is an an application that exists only on Microsoft's "Cloud" - And all that is actually installed on your computer is a link to it. It seems dubious to me because the spurious "update" took just under an hour. However, if that is the case, there is probably little to be done about it beyond disabling it. And even that may be pretty tricky if you're using Windows 10 "Home" edition. Outside of that, have to agree regarding avoiding Windows 11. This is where it became very obvious that Microsoft is going to try to force everyone into their fictional "cloud" (Actually their servers), where they will have access to and ownership of everyone's files. Next step will be making Windows into a subscription service - Making Microsoft into a utility company where you'll pay a monthly bill...
got all the way to the Explorer bit Data collection Can't get past Explorer It Won't let me add a folder under the Data maybe the new key isn't helping. Any idea's woud be appriciated I am fed up with microsoft and go pilot
Yes, so I have been using Windows with the web search disabled for a long time. However, I recently performed a registry clean and then followed the steps again (tried with Group Policy Editor and registry edit), but this time it didn't work. So, I had to restore my PC, and now it's working fine without web search. I'm still wondering why after performing the registry clean the method for removing web search isn't working anymore. this is the bat file I used for registry clean: SC config trustedinstaller start=auto reg delete "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies" /f reg delete "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\WindowsSelfHost" /f reg delete "HKCU\Software\Policies" /f reg delete "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Policies" /f reg delete "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies" /f reg delete "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WindowsSelfHost" /f reg delete "HKLM\Software\Policies" /f reg delete "HKLM\Software\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Policies" /f reg delete "HKLM\Software\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies" /f
I have 11 Home and can't go the "edit group policies" route, but I found a solution... In the Registry Editor, I added a key: Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsCopilot then added a Dword "TurnOffWindowsCopilot" and set it to 1. It worked! Not only on mine, but on my wife's Win10 (which somehow had Copilot installed there). Hope this helps someone.
This actually worked for me after group policies didn't. Now Win+C just opens Bing. I have Home edition and did some hacking to install Group Policy Editor from the existing files (all Windows PCs HAVE the files and can technically run the program) but there's no indication it actually works lol, maybe because I am using Home edition and there's some nonsense permission still blocking edits from having any effect.

You do great stuff!!! I am trying to remove the microsoft splash page when I open my laptop that requires a click, and then the next page that says sign in. I found a registry adjustment for the first computer a few months ago but had to replace the hard drive. Now I cant find it again. Any ideas???
Thank you for the positive feedback. Are you trying to ‘only’ remove the splash screen (ie a desktop style image I assume you mean), or remove the need to enter in your login details as well? And what version of Windows are you using?
@@TLTechLife hi and thanks for the quick reply!!! I would love to remove both. The sign in only requires me to press enter but both are annoying and not necessary. Windows 11.
You can get rid of the splash screen by click start and typing in msconfig and opening the 'system configuration' app. Choose the Boot tab and check the 'No GUI' option. For anyone on Windows 11 Home you wont have access to the "Local Group Policy" without a bit of extra work. A quicker work around that I've found to work with no issues is by going in to the Terminal and Copy/Pasting this line of text; " reg add HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsCopilot /v TurnOffWindowsCopilot /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f ". To get to terminal right click the start icon on the task bar and select terminal. after copying and pasting make sure to restart/sign out and sign back in. Hope this one helps!
Tried to un-install CoPilot. It was installed last night. There was a windows update, which I didn't care to do for 1-2 days. Guess the timer was over, so it installed itself. Anyway, I'm the only user, with Administator access. Is this the same as ROOT access? I tried to un-install CoPilot, but the option is greyed out (unavailable). what do I do if gpedit or Group doesn't bring up an option for group policy in the search bar?
GPEDIT section wasnt recognized on my computer so I couldn't get the AI out, only off the task bar. Any suggestions please?
Bing was removed using instructions from his last video. Windows updated and it came back and is now refusing to leave. Followed instructions but there it remains in my start menu. I don't know if anything has changed since this video was posted. I look forward to a follow up if one's in the cards.
gpedit isn't yielding any group policy results, please help
yeah it won't let me findd gpedit every time i type it up it only brings me to a web search

Hey Dan, much love from Australia. Thanks for your support. I really appreciate it,
I'm not sure if MS changed things but after editing the policy and signing out/back in Copilot is still available as an option in Taskbar settings (disabled) and if I hit Win-C it re-installs it then it's back.
changing the registry didnt work fro me brand new clean install window 11 pro still searches from start menu.
Hi, I couldn't find gpedit because I use Windows 11 Home, but I was able to find a different method.
You just have to open Registry Editor again, and go to the same folder. But this time make a new key called WindowsCopilot, and a new DWORD called TurnOffWindowsCopilot. Same thing as disabling Explorer, so set it to 1 then restart your computer.'
Hopefully you see this comment and pin it so that other Windows 11 Home users can see it!
OMG thank you! This did the trick for me too with windows 11 home.
GPEDIT only works if you have win11 pro, how do you remove it from the home version?
This video is a life saver
Because I was struggling to get rid of the Copilot icon from the Windows Search menu and Edge (despite WinKey + C still opening Edge)
But I can rest easy with Copilot essentially nuked from my PC, and I have Registry backed up into an external file I can just import on each update, should each update revert certain registry files
Thank you for the feedback. Glad I could help. Have a fantastic day!
ty, gpedit doesnt come up on my start when i search it

I did it all but I was just wondering how...for a lack of a better term...how permanent is Copilot/Recall now removed off my system?
I cannot open with gpedit. What can I do instead?
u sir earned a sub!!
You are very welcome and thanks for subbing I really appreciate that a lot.
Thank you for the help
You’re very welcome!
Good ish! Thanks so much!
My absolute pleasure. Have a fantastic day!
When I open registry app it will not let me go further. Asks if I want to run app see how. Then I try the link and still does not take me to H information
Remove Top Apps, Quick Searches and Suggested of Search Box would be really awesome. :-D
Hello sir, please continue your series in SCOM.
I don't get a GP Edit when i type it in my search
Are you using windows home edition, that may be why.
¡Muy buen tutorial, muchas gracias! Aprovecho para comentar mientras reinicia mi laptop superlenta 😂
for some reason i cannot disable Copilot, I opened gpedit and enabled turning it off and nothing happened its still here, any help?
The biggest problem, i dont want to hide these invasive programs, i want them completely gone. I dont want a single character of code remaining on my computer. Its absolutely rediculous that im forced to have these programs track everything i do.
That's the core of Microsoft profits, collect user data to resell them for marketing purposes to third party ghosths.
@@TheForce_Productions what a load of shitty bull. This is nothing short of invasion of privacy without consent.
I switched to linux as my daily driver. I only use windows (10) for games and photoshop.
IM SORRY I DONT KNOW THE NAME OF THAT FEATURE :
((
Hello, I assume you mean that it went to show the desktop? In the latest windows 11 it’s still available but switched off and replaced with the copilot icon. To turn it back on, open settings using Windows+I. Go to personalization, taskbar, taskbar behaviours and choose ‘select the far corner of the taskbar to show desktop’. Now you should see a faint vertical line appear when you put your mouse cursor in the far right. Click it to show desktop, again to return to having the open windows show. You can use ‘Windows+D’ for the same thing. Hope that helps my friend. Have a great day!
Thank you so much for making that easy!
I followed you direction on disabling copilot, by hitting enable, sign out and sign in. When I log back in, windows + C shows it is still there. I watched your video over and over so I am sure I did every step. Any ideas? Thanks

Is User configuration available in windows 11 Home edition, It appears not to be?
nice, thank you! that worked!
You’re most welcome. Glad to have helped.
Thank you. Somehow, co pilot is still showing on my windows 11 pc. When i click start, and click in the address bar the icon is still there. I followed all the directions. I even followed Bing's directions to remove it.
Video starts at 6:40
awesome help cheers...
Glad to have helped. Thanks for watching. Have a great day!
Thanks mate. Worked a treat.
Thank you so much!
changing the policy doesnt disable it anymore.
can you please do one for windows 10? We have co-pilot preview and it messes up the resolution AND it messes up the desktop monitor resolution.

Actually, I came accross the solution yesterday purely by accident, I have been having issues with Microsoft, so entered a query into the search bar (next to the Win icon" the question was "How to delete MS Edge" to my surprise, the MS AI bot responded and told me exactly how to remove Edge from win 10, also how to remove Defender.
@@_XR40_ Try using AVG or REVO, which is more adept at searching out those sneaky apps/links
Group Policy isn't available to windows11 home users. Is there a way to remove that copilot another way?
got all the way to the Explorer bit Data collection Can't get past Explorer It Won't let me add a folder under the Data maybe the new key isn't helping. Any idea's woud be appriciated
I am fed up with microsoft and go pilot
I've tried everything but windows still does the web search :(
Hi Sebastian, can you explain further what you mean by that?
Yes, so I have been using Windows with the web search disabled for a long time. However, I recently performed a registry clean and then followed the steps again (tried with Group Policy Editor and registry edit), but this time it didn't work. So, I had to restore my PC, and now it's working fine without web search. I'm still wondering why after performing the registry clean the method for removing web search isn't working anymore. this is the bat file I used for registry clean:
SC config trustedinstaller start=auto
reg delete "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies" /f
reg delete "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\WindowsSelfHost" /f
reg delete "HKCU\Software\Policies" /f
reg delete "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Policies" /f
reg delete "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies" /f
reg delete "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WindowsSelfHost" /f
reg delete "HKLM\Software\Policies" /f
reg delete "HKLM\Software\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Policies" /f
reg delete "HKLM\Software\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies" /f
I have Home edition and did some hacking to install Group Policy Editor from the existing files (all Windows PCs HAVE the files and can technically run the program) but there's no indication it actually works lol, maybe because I am using Home edition and there's some nonsense permission still blocking edits from having any effect.
turned off copilot in group policies and it's still on my computer if I press win+c or look at taskbar items, I did restart
So useful, thank you. So much bloat in Windows 11. I just want a simple interface.
I opened gpedit, went to administrative templates/windows components but I couldn't find windows copilot there. What should I do?
Excellent video.
Nice to be shown how to do something in easily explained directions.
And obviously , the more I do on my PC the more confidence I'll get, so a big thumbs up and a hit on that Subscribed bell :)
Thank you Andy for the positive feedback, subscribing and getting more confidence in yourself. I’m here to help, so anything that troubles you that I can make a video about, I’ll do my best. Have a fantastic day my friend!
Sorry I'm not in front of a PC atm so that's just going off memory. As for a complete solution I can investigate and get back to you.
@@TLTechLife hI! i tried your idea and it doesnt work. I know I used regedit before. I will just keep at it till someday i figure it out. thanks for trying.
worked like a charm :) thx,u get a subscription from me sir
Why thank you. So glad it helped you out and thank you for the kind words and the sub. I really appreciate it. Have a terrific day!
@TLTechLife windows keep changing settings back, copilot is back on search, also is putting my pc to sleep even if I set it to never and a few extra tricks but for nothing, Netflix not connecting anymore...oh God why did I re-install windows with the belief that it will work better,oh why...crapiest windows ever, thanks microsoft
It would be nice if you included the path you are using on the comment or transcript.
Thanks a lot for this!
Please my Microsoft Edge Browser is disabled or vanished from my taskbar how can I fix it back please. It can't be found at the apps section. Help
for some reason my computer / windows does not have the GP Edit policy setting. I cant find it anywhere can someone please help?? thanks
Aug 31. Does it stay removed after some time. Or did it return
How do you remove copilot from Office 365??
Tried to un-install CoPilot. It was installed last night. There was a windows update, which I didn't care to do for 1-2 days. Guess the timer was over, so it installed itself. Anyway, I'm the only user, with Administator access. Is this the same as ROOT access? I tried to un-install CoPilot, but the option is greyed out (unavailable). I know it's still on my drive, I can see the icon. Maybe doing a rollback.
