    4:20 When the walleye fishing scandal happened, you could tell the honest fishers wanted to kill the cheaters. What happened was these two fishermen were stuffing the fish they caught with weighted balls. The full videos of them being caught is on youtube and tiktok. The other fishermen were yelling and screaming at them, getting in their faces and things got so heated cops had to escort them to safety. They were arrested, banned from ever fishing again and are now in debt due to how much money (and a boat might they add) they stole from their cheating tactics

    as someone who grew up in Louisiana's dirt roads where in the summer we ate fish, in the autumn squirrel and rabbit and in the winter we ate deer and filled the freezer with it the idea of hunting or fishing "for sport" just never landed for me. We ate this with peas, beans, squash and okra from the garden and We engaged in the activities of hunting and fishing and vegetable gardens because it was the least expensive way available to feed ourselves and our families despite being incredibly time consuming. We never made mockery of the animals, we were always thankful for the bounty of the land and only a once in a lifetime buck was ever mounted on our walls. Maybe that way of doing things is passe but I have to say, the times spent with my family out there doing it are some of my best memories.

    One thing Mr count failed to mention that is impossible to know unless you know about fishing is (love your videos btw) long was snagging these fish while they were spawning. Basically when bass spawn they go to clear, shallow water to reproduce, when they do this they are already vulnerable because they stay in a about a 5 foot radius of where they spawn in and are easily spotted. Bass spawn in the same areas that things like bluegill and crawfish are typically found, which is why they hang around the area to protect the eggs from these predators. There’s no telling how many potential giants he killed because without the female bass (which are the true giants) to protect the eggs it’s incredible how fast predators come in to eat the eggs, destroying valuable fry that have the dna to make them true giants.

    • @boognish.
      @boognish. 4 місяці тому +59

      Thank you for adding this key component to the story. I believe for the most part the true giants get that way because of genetics and smarts. Bass are super vulnerable during the spawn and the giants are MUCH much more difficult to catch while on bed than average size fish. This makes Mikes snagging even more despicable 🤬

Whenever I tell someone I’m going fishing and they say “ooo that’ll be a nice, relaxing day”, it’s hard not to get into it and tell them truth…which is that I’ll be stalking around the lake in my boat like fucking Rambo with 7 baitcasting combos on deck.

Baitcaster reels give convenience at most, and will only ever help you have the farthest cast or the quickest reel. Because lactic acid buildup in the tissues of the fish can kill it. Hooking the mouth allows the water to still flow over the gills efficiently as you fight it, so there's less buildup when the fish is landed. Thus it has a better chance to survive to weigh in and release.

    • @medea27
      @medea27 4 місяці тому +3

      Actually, the whole point of good fishing technique is that you _can_ exert some control over how you hook the fish by using the equipment & techniques specific to catching certain species. You're also enticing them to bite. Accidents happen, but the damage to the fish is usually pretty minor in those cases because the fish got itself snagged. With deliberate snagging the fish doesn't need to be going for the bait or lure at all... any fish of any size that swims within snagging distance can wind up with a hook in it's body or fins, If you want to see how bad Intentional snagging can get, check out the surveillance that Alaskan Park Rangers have to do each salmon season... snaggers are such a menace that salmon stocks are declining in some areas, because so many fish are dying from wounds before they make it to the spawning areas.

    "The Tony Hawk of fishing"
    I'd argue that that would be Kevin VanDam

    it's reassuring that fisherman really care about nor hurting the fish.

      It's practical, as much as anything else. You poke holes in fish, they get infected, then they get _really_ sick, and then the sickness spreads. You don't want a lake full of sick fish.

    17:38 first time it happened to me I was reeling my line back so I could recast, and I was beyond confused when I found a fish had been grabbed by the hook (didn't even know that could happen)

    Out here we call it "foul hooking" instead of snagging. One time I foul hooked a red and reeled in just the eye😅.

    I've heard stories of cheating at fishing, but never one of this scale.

      Sure. Pretty much everyone knows the take a hold of the measuring tape and twist method of getting few cm of extra length method, but to put weights into the fish or catch them into the sides or face wtf... I mean if you can see the damn thing, might as well go for the kill with the net at that point or bare hands. And here i was thinking throwing feed to get fish come near the lure was cheating and won competitions just using the lures and bait as you should, usually getting so many fish that didnt have time to enjoy it before next one hit, most eager jumped top of the water to hook them selfs few times. But this is just something else..

    When I was 14 I accidentally snagged what would have been a state record fish by almost 7lb and was devastated to find out that it wasn’t eligible and got in trouble for not releasing the snagged catch and it’s engraved in my mind to this day how shit snagging is so moral of story don’t snag
