Had hopes for the Op Amp BM reissue from EHX (that orange BM fuzz), but I can't get it singing like the OG was capable of (does work well on bass though). Maybe I'm not doing it right, though, which is usually the case when I meet such frustrations. Man, there are so many little tricks, techniques, our elders would have called them "spells", little combinations of just the right settings, of the required devices, used in just the right way, and the Universe unzips, and miracles come forth, special sounds that resonate up and down the chorded octaves of our spirit. Sounds that are not achievable in any other way, but the narrow path. And if you don't know these spells, it takes a full greying of your beard to find just a few of these on your own through decades of penniless, fruitless combinations, following endless leadings to nothing but embarrassment, chasing countless rumors that are absurd and false, or seem surely false, but perhaps after all, if finally done in just the right way, in a way that is entirely non-obvious and counter-intuitive, you may find the truth at the heart of the rumor, and make a sound that is otherwise unobtainable, a sound that soars beyond the reach of what we’ve cursed as gravity. As counterfeits of counterfeits follow the same rumors in maddened haste, and in vanity, but not in truth, claim their dead sounds to be alive, scales thickening over their ears. Or, the more fortunate of these pretenders simply dismiss the rumor as false, as they've tried every way to exploit the rumor, but always ended in a barren, their fragile hope darkened, their light, less bright. my little setup view I'm in an orange micro dark apartment with a 1x12 cab with a greenback pedals I have the SF300 (it was my first fuzz 6 months ago to test) a tube screamer a mini Russian muff a metal muff and the fuzzly bear 2 (with which I pick up Eastern European radio when I push it all the way) a blue mxr eq6, I'm considering taking the Acapulco gold and the KATZENKNIG fuzz in the absence of your typical pedals preamp because bringing it to France will be too expensive
i dont play doom but my pedal board and tone is pretty doom inspired my chain is set up like; boss tu-2 tuner -> clean boost -> hm-2 clone -> phase90 -> boss dd-3. pretty much 100% of the time, if needed i might change out the hm2 for a different fuzz, mainly i love my dba fuzz war, which i would love to hear in a doom setting (i dont think i have). and if i want some wah ill stick it between my boost and fuzz pedals. cheers from detroit
My 4 go-to pedals for a Doom sound is Way Huge Angry Troll, Way Huge Swollen Pickle, Boss BF-3 Flanger & MXR Carbon Copy Delay I love the Black Russian Big Muffs. I have one in a box that needs a new battery lead soldered on but while i have it apart i will swap out the first set of clipping diodes to LEDs and maybe mod the tone shaping for more midrange
I've got myself this little off-brand mini fuzz called a Fuxx Fuzz with an octave switch that I think is supposed to be a super high gain (like, ABSURD levels of gain, like it's almost unusable past 9 o'clock) version of a Foxx Tone Machine that is perfect for nasty stoner riffs. Between that, my sonicake 5th dimension modulation, and this dumb little bass flyrig I have (basically a green russian, an ampeg SVT style preamp, and what I think is an MXR blue box?) plugged into my crappy 90's solid state with a spring reverb, I've got ugly noise for DAYS. Not the most glorious rig, but I think everything combined cost me less than $400 so I think I did pretty well.
Pedals wise... I have a Proco Rat that I really need to replace with a cheap clone, and I also have a Deluxe Russian Muff that goes with it. On my live rig, i have a Green russian muff kit I built from a JedsPeds kit. Expensive gear stays at home :) Other choices you didnt mention... A Marshall Guvnor! The Guvnor is a lovely JCM sounding preamp. it sounds savage! I like to have at least one Boss pedal in my chain for the buffer... usually the overdrive. I favour those over Tube Screamer type overdrives for doom as I feel they have a lot fuller frequency range boost going on. Mine is a Turbo OD which are dirt cheap on Ebay. I guess an Acapulco Gold is another one you could call essential... those one knob Fuzz boxes are pretty cool to stack with a muff or the Rat. I also have the MT-2 Metal Zone which is just a box of bumblefuxx but its easy to get a massive dirty tone with. I know it was pretty much the Early Solstice (UK) sound as the one I have used to belong to their singer and went on tour with him! The HM-2 is a curious beast... I love it, but I prefer the Eyemaster from TC Electronics as its less messing with the EQ and that thing just makes me want to play Entombed riffs :) not quite doom! Jason - Have you heard the band Tuskar from the UK? They are pretty cool if you get a chance to check them out!
I've been moving around the pedals a bit, mainly changing the "main distortion" and using the others as an EQ or pre amp. Anyways here it is. Marshall Jackhammer JH-1 to a Behringer HM300 to a Behringer UM300 to a SubZero Forge Metal to a Behringer SF300 to a Behringer UC200 to a TC Electronics Thunderstorm Flanger. Yeah, I'm cheap. But I honestly don't see the problem with Behringers, I've heard people say they broke it after just a few days and stuff, like do you guys really stomp on them that much?

I’m still experimenting with my own doom sound and 4 pedals I use are Foxx Tonemachine, mxr blue box, dod grind, and the old 70s power wah boost. There are other pedals I mess with but those 4 are the mainstay that dod grind is a sleeper
Actually. Fuzz faces and variants never get enough love despite working so well on bass and guitar. I wonder why they arent trendy... for example the zvex woolymammoth is quite versitle
Absolutely agree, they're not the highest gain or anything but especially if you have one with a bias control you can get that nasty, spitty kind of sound that just kills. I think it's maybe a bit more of a stoner metal kind of thing than doom just because it's got a bit of a mid hump to my ears and it doesn't always handle massive chords in the most graceful way, but whatever, I love it.
What is your opinion of the Earthquaker Acapalco Gold?...v1 oe v2...I keep hearing how awesome they are...1 KNOB??? One popped up in my area used, I may have to check it out. Any experience with one? Thanks.

DBA Fuzz war with a treble booster after it sounds heavier than any other pedal combo I've tried. Don't sleep on treble boosters for stacking w/ your fuzz/drives.
Great video testing all the pedals out man. I just bought a Behringer SF300 and it seems like fuzz 2 is closest I can get to that "Dopethrone" sounds haha. Would love to grab that FU2.. it sounded pretty sick 🤘🏻

Great video! Awesome to hear the differences between different dirt pedals, specially for doom music. My favorite is the rat, I like how I can play slow riffs with a big and fuzzy sound and also play fast parts without loosing too much clarity
Opened for John Spencer Blues Explosion several times, but only saw Pussy Galore once- nothing comes close to Pussy Galore. JSBE was great, but Pussy Galore was like watching God get blown to bits by a bomb onstage. Almost no comparison. Mind Blowing.
Great video Jason. I don’t play doom but I make my own pedals thanks to one of your videos. My current pedal board is an optical compressor, Low gain OD, and a chorus. I’ve been working on designing a boost that targets harmonics. What I’ve got on my breadboard now doesn’t accomplish what I’m hearing in my head but I think it has promise. Anyway I wouldn’t be doing any of this without your videos so just want to say thanks.

1- Boss OS2 (very underrated OD/Distortion with a lot of volume boost. My settings: full volume, rest set around 9 o'clock) 2- Fender Full Moon Distortion (affordable and yet very unique sounding distortion with a low pass filter and a secret fuzz like setting, always stays dynamic and has no bad setting althoug a bit more gain would be nice) 3- GCI Brutalist Jr (super affordable as a DIY kit, it's also Kurt Ballous business card, based on a Providence distortion box) 4- Earthquaker Devices Acapulco Gold (supposedly a Sunn Model T power amp distortion in a pedal) 5- Blackout Effectors Blunderbuzz Fuzz (no longer in production, a hybrid Distrotion/Fuzz box, can sound very Melvins like and has a built in noise gate, so it's super quiet when you stop playing) Other cool pedals: Marshall Jackhammer JH-1, Earthquaker Devices Plumes, Proco Rat, any EHX Muff pedal, DOD Boneshaker, Lone Wolf Audio - Left Hand Wrath. Owned or used all of those pedals, and they sound stellar! But if you want to only check one out try the Fender FMD, it needs some more love!
@@daveronhertpark7134 The Acapulco Gold is a very special approche to distortion. It's not really a fuzz. It's super loud and you have no tone knob to change how it sounds. It doesn't sound that great into a distortion channel but into a clean amp it can be very cool and it cleans up very nice if you use your guitars volume knob. I also have a Russian Muff reissue, it's a nice pedal but sound very different. I would only use the Russioan muff for recording to add some tracks (like quad tracking) and not as my main distortion. The Rat is an all around great pedal and I think the most versitily of the three you mentioned. You can never go wrong with a Rat in my opinion. If you want to check out the Acapulco Gold, I have some clips uploaded on my channel. ;) Or check out the demos by Lewis Texidor, Shred Shed Studios or Stay Metal Ray.
Harmonic Percolators are amazing. I run a Vaderin HP-X into my Orange Tiny Terror and it kind of reminds me of Buzz Osbourne's tone on "The Bit". It's got this thing where it's got the harmonic clarity of a Big Muff but the nastiness of something like a fuzz face that makes it perfect for doom/sludge.
T C Electronic Eymaster is a take on the hm 2. Really affordable and built like a tank. The Joyo Voodoo Octave is also awesome and built like a tank. I would love to see you do a video on those pedals. Also just wanted to say that you have inspired me to start learning how to play doom metal. It has recently became my favorite genre of music. Thank you and keep up the good work.
The first time I remember seeing a Rat is in J Yuenger's rig for La Sexorcisto. I had one for a little while, but didn't know wtf I was doing with it, ended up trading it.
I forget the name but there is a free rat plugin pedal online, and a couple of the IRs from my cabs are free at fuzzlordeffects.com Curious to know some others! A good free VST amp sim would be great
I like having a tape delay at the front of the signal. With each repeat getting darker, and having that run into a fuzz, that creates some cool sounds. It can get into pure noise territory if not careful, but oh well.

I love the Bongfire, by Fuzz Imp. (Formerly known as Fuzz Simp) I also love the sound of a LPB-1 pedal boosting an Acapulco Gold pedal. Awesome !!......Great Review.
Guitar->Tuner->Fuzz->Wah->OD->RAT->Phaser->Delay->Amp. I have one dirt pedal before the wah because I love the drama that the massive sweep gives me. Having said that, I don't always want it to be that extreme, so most of my other OD/Distortions go after the wah. This way I have the best of both worlds.
Hey Jason love your channel. For me the 4 pedals are 1. The DOD fx33 Buzz Box. 2.The Boss Metal zone with their suggested fuzz setting into the FX loop. 3. Vintage White face RAT with TS9 clean setting as a pre boost, and 4. Rocktek distortion for a treble focused (unintentional) fuzz which is great for black crust/metal.
@@rishpanjeet7479 I don't actually own one, but I have used the Freaker Mk1. It's a clone of the Tycobrahe Parapedal Wah that Iommi was famous for using. The Mk2 version has a couple more bells and whistles, but most importantly, has the ability to take out the volume drop in the heel down position.
Like @josearjon3728 said, Acapulco Gold is a great one. With Rats, I prefer the Turbo. TC Magus Pro is my choice, because it gives you three variations, normal, fat & turbo. My preferred Muff is the Green Russian. But Metal Muff can be nice too, because of the EQ and noise gate. My chain is Guild Polara Deluxe->PolyTune->Hyperluminal (Comp)->Earthquaker Plumes (TS)->GreenRussian(Muff)->QueeQeeg2(Oct)->MagusPro(RAT)->BluesDriver(OD)->TC SCF+(Mod)->Rubberneck(BBD)->Surfybear(Spring)->->DelVerb(TapeEcho/Hall)->Marshall JTM+Creamback stack for Dry fx+Spring & Vox AC30 pair in stereo for wet stereo fx. If I'm doing more ambient/drone, I add in Chase Bliss Mood mk..II, and Walrus Sloer or MercuryX. Very happy with the setup, but would like to experiment with adding a phaser, maybe even a stereo one, and something that does octave up like the Mandrake. Because the Earthquaker Life shows that combining that RAT, Muff with an Octave up pedal can sound amazing.

Cry Baby > Green Screamer > Swollen Pickle > Rat > Heavy Menace > Tuner > Tape Echo (this normally goes into amp, however, as a backup amp on my pedal board I also have an Orange Getaway Driver used as an Amp-In-A-Box through a DI Box. If my amp fails me, I can quickly remove the instrument cord from the tape echo and patch the tape echo into the Getaway Driver and plug the DI Box right into the PA, and we're back in business.)

My 4 pedal setup would be: 1- EQD Plumes as a boost (volumen all the way up. Tone at 3 for added brightness. No Gain. Mode 2 for no added compression just an open boost) 2- Proco Rat (Everything crancked up. Filter Barely open for just a little bit of high end. ) [Kind of cheating but using a Mark V amp sim on my modeler with a custom Cali IR] 3- Memory Man type delay in my modeler pedalboard with feedback linked to the exp pedal. 4- EQD Astral Destiny at the end of the chain going direct to PA on the Sub Mode.

@@FuzzlordEffects I have a boss MS-3 processor and switcher. Loop 1 is a DigiTech Ventura vibe, loop 2 is the BAT Black Forest, Loop 3 is the Supro Drive. I use the MS-3 mostly for the delays and some occasional playing with weird stuff. For Doom I mostly use the Black Forest gain dimed volume at unity -> Supro Drive gain at 1 volume at unity -> real mild tape delay from the MS-3 - solid state Orange clean channel. (I only play for me and to annoy my wife and kids >_>) The Supro had a great old vintage small amp cranked sound, a good bit of sag and I could probably almost get away with using it for doom without the fuzz if I cranked it but I love the Overdriver type distortion from the Black Forest.
Marshall Edward Compressor -> EQD Organizer -> Super Chorus -> Fet120 admittedly I aim to have a more 'lau nau with some dirt' sound than an 'electric wizard' type of sound. if I was going for a more classic desert type of sound I'd go wooly mammoth into a wah into fet120, no fourth pedal

I use a little modded MXR Dynacomp (bigger cap for more bass) in front of a MXR Sub machine fuzz (a brutal fuzz with upper and lower octave) and from this i go into a Joyo American Sound overdrive. I can switsch all three effects on and of and get many different more ore less heavy sound from fat and bluesy smooth overdrives to a groundshaking hellish vulcanos. As a guitar I use a Gretch Jet Baritone tuned in H.
Octave>wah>mods>volume>delay> OD>Fuzz/dist>Amp lead channel with low gain settings>fx loop send>noise gate>reverb>fx loop return I find a didgital delay after the gain sounds too synthetic, so I “analogise” it up front and it feels more like part of my playing as opposed to a digital echo. I usually use the fuzz/distortion as a boost for the Amps gain channel in attempt to apply the pedal characteristics to the amp distortion without over saturating the tone
SF300 (in 1.5 setting) -> Marshall RG-1 (Regenerator, it has Chorus, Flanger, Phaser and a Uni-Vibe mode) -> Marshall Echohead (multiple delay types). Very versatile, good sound and you can get these for about 150 bucks total. This would be the setup I'd recommend to every doom-newbie to try out. DBA Fuzz War and EQD Acapulco are great pedals, too, but each costs more than the three I mentioned before..
Do you have any opinion on the Maestro FZ-M? Its based on the fuzz tone from back in the 60's and it seems to have a lot of high end content so I feel like it would pair well with a darker sounding low tuned guitar. For standard tuned guitar it sounds a bit harsh and I can't find any videos of it where they don't just play anything heavy 🤣 just generic rock riffs. I'm debating getting it because I like the overall character I'm just worried it would be too thin sounding lol. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a bit enamored by the aesthetic of the pedal especially the LED's and just the overall mid century modern look haha

Hi I'm Snake. Those are cool riffs. It's funny I have most of those pedals but I never play doom style. 😅 I usually just play fast fuzz riffs or psychotic gated fuzz madness. I will remember your Rat pedal because I've never owned a rat style pedal. I been looking for a modern version.

my little setup view I'm in an orange micro dark apartment with a 1x12 cab with a greenback pedals I have the SF300 (it was my first fuzz 6 months ago to test) a tube screamer a mini Russian muff a metal muff and the fuzzly bear 2 (with which I pick up Eastern European radio when I push it all the way) a blue mxr eq6, I'm considering taking the Acapulco gold and the KATZENKNIG fuzz in the absence of your typical pedals preamp because bringing it to France will be too expensive
HM3 shoutout - ive had one for many many years and love it, it's a very unique distortion. I have absolutely made some doom with it before
i dont play doom but my pedal board and tone is pretty doom inspired my chain is set up like; boss tu-2 tuner -> clean boost -> hm-2 clone -> phase90 -> boss dd-3. pretty much 100% of the time, if needed i might change out the hm2 for a different fuzz, mainly i love my dba fuzz war, which i would love to hear in a doom setting (i dont think i have). and if i want some wah ill stick it between my boost and fuzz pedals. cheers from detroit

I love the Black Russian Big Muffs. I have one in a box that needs a new battery lead soldered on but while i have it apart i will swap out the first set of clipping diodes to LEDs and maybe mod the tone shaping for more midrange

I've got myself this little off-brand mini fuzz called a Fuxx Fuzz with an octave switch that I think is supposed to be a super high gain (like, ABSURD levels of gain, like it's almost unusable past 9 o'clock) version of a Foxx Tone Machine that is perfect for nasty stoner riffs. Between that, my sonicake 5th dimension modulation, and this dumb little bass flyrig I have (basically a green russian, an ampeg SVT style preamp, and what I think is an MXR blue box?) plugged into my crappy 90's solid state with a spring reverb, I've got ugly noise for DAYS. Not the most glorious rig, but I think everything combined cost me less than $400 so I think I did pretty well.
The FU2 sounds owsome. I wonder how does it sound with bass. Seems to have nice low end and definition

I have a Fuzz Factory clone and if you tune the knobs just right you can get a pretty mean fuzz
Pedals wise... I have a Proco Rat that I really need to replace with a cheap clone, and I also have a Deluxe Russian Muff that goes with it. On my live rig, i have a Green russian muff kit I built from a JedsPeds kit. Expensive gear stays at home :)
Other choices you didnt mention... A Marshall Guvnor! The Guvnor is a lovely JCM sounding preamp. it sounds savage!
I like to have at least one Boss pedal in my chain for the buffer... usually the overdrive. I favour those over Tube Screamer type overdrives for doom as I feel they have a lot fuller frequency range boost going on. Mine is a Turbo OD which are dirt cheap on Ebay.
I guess an Acapulco Gold is another one you could call essential... those one knob Fuzz boxes are pretty cool to stack with a muff or the Rat.
I also have the MT-2 Metal Zone which is just a box of bumblefuxx but its easy to get a massive dirty tone with. I know it was pretty much the Early Solstice (UK) sound as the one I have used to belong to their singer and went on tour with him!
The HM-2 is a curious beast... I love it, but I prefer the Eyemaster from TC Electronics as its less messing with the EQ and that thing just makes me want to play Entombed riffs :) not quite doom!

I’m still experimenting with my own doom sound and 4 pedals I use are Foxx Tonemachine, mxr blue box, dod grind, and the old 70s power wah boost. There are other pedals I mess with but those 4 are the mainstay that dod grind is a sleeper

Absolutely agree, they're not the highest gain or anything but especially if you have one with a bias control you can get that nasty, spitty kind of sound that just kills. I think it's maybe a bit more of a stoner metal kind of thing than doom just because it's got a bit of a mid hump to my ears and it doesn't always handle massive chords in the most graceful way, but whatever, I love it.

I literally never use mode 2. It's way too thin and scooped. And people play in mode 2 AND turn up the bass and treble.. madness.

Great video Jason. I don’t play doom but I make my own pedals thanks to one of your videos. My current pedal board is an optical compressor, Low gain OD, and a chorus. I’ve been working on designing a boost that targets harmonics. What I’ve got on my breadboard now doesn’t accomplish what I’m hearing in my head but I think it has promise. Anyway I wouldn’t be doing any of this without your videos so just want to say thanks.
The harmonic Perculator makes me think of Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats or Black Rebel Motorcycle Club

1- Boss OS2 (very underrated OD/Distortion with a lot of volume boost. My settings: full volume, rest set around 9 o'clock)
2- Fender Full Moon Distortion (affordable and yet very unique sounding distortion with a low pass filter and a secret fuzz like setting, always stays dynamic and has no bad setting althoug a bit more gain would be nice)
3- GCI Brutalist Jr (super affordable as a DIY kit, it's also Kurt Ballous business card, based on a Providence distortion box)
4- Earthquaker Devices Acapulco Gold (supposedly a Sunn Model T power amp distortion in a pedal)
5- Blackout Effectors Blunderbuzz Fuzz (no longer in production, a hybrid Distrotion/Fuzz box, can sound very Melvins like and has a built in noise gate, so it's super quiet when you stop playing)
Other cool pedals: Marshall Jackhammer JH-1, Earthquaker Devices Plumes, Proco Rat, any EHX Muff pedal, DOD Boneshaker, Lone Wolf Audio - Left Hand Wrath.
Owned or used all of those pedals, and they sound stellar! But if you want to only check one out try the Fender FMD, it needs some more love!
Is the Acapulco Gold good? I'm looking for a fuzz and an overdrive pedal to use with a RAT. Or should I get a Russian Muff?
@@daveronhertpark7134 The Acapulco Gold is a very special approche to distortion. It's not really a fuzz. It's super loud and you have no tone knob to change how it sounds. It doesn't sound that great into a distortion channel but into a clean amp it can be very cool and it cleans up very nice if you use your guitars volume knob.
I also have a Russian Muff reissue, it's a nice pedal but sound very different. I would only use the Russioan muff for recording to add some tracks (like quad tracking) and not as my main distortion.
The Rat is an all around great pedal and I think the most versitily of the three you mentioned. You can never go wrong with a Rat in my opinion.

Harmonic Percolators are amazing. I run a Vaderin HP-X into my Orange Tiny Terror and it kind of reminds me of Buzz Osbourne's tone on "The Bit". It's got this thing where it's got the harmonic clarity of a Big Muff but the nastiness of something like a fuzz face that makes it perfect for doom/sludge.
T C Electronic Eymaster is a take on the hm 2. Really affordable and built like a tank. The Joyo Voodoo Octave is also awesome and built like a tank. I would love to see you do a video on those pedals. Also just wanted to say that you have inspired me to start learning how to play doom metal. It has recently became my favorite genre of music. Thank you and keep up the good work.

It's not very exciting, but EQ pedals can radically transform tone, especially if you move it around in the chain to find where it works best

I like having a tape delay at the front of the signal. With each repeat getting darker, and having that run into a fuzz, that creates some cool sounds. It can get into pure noise territory if not careful, but oh well.

Guitar->Tuner->Fuzz->Wah->OD->RAT->Phaser->Delay->Amp. I have one dirt pedal before the wah because I love the drama that the massive sweep gives me. Having said that, I don't always want it to be that extreme, so most of my other OD/Distortions go after the wah. This way I have the best of both worlds.
FZ-2, RAT and HM-2 are best sounding doom pedals to me. I used to love Muff style pedals, but they sound too modern and fizzy to me recently.
Hey Jason love your channel. For me the 4 pedals are 1. The DOD fx33 Buzz Box. 2.The Boss Metal zone with their suggested fuzz setting into the FX loop. 3. Vintage White face RAT with TS9 clean setting as a pre boost, and 4. Rocktek distortion for a treble focused (unintentional) fuzz which is great for black crust/metal.

@@rishpanjeet7479 I don't actually own one, but I have used the Freaker Mk1. It's a clone of the Tycobrahe Parapedal Wah that Iommi was famous for using. The Mk2 version has a couple more bells and whistles, but most importantly, has the ability to take out the volume drop in the heel down position.

My preferred Muff is the Green Russian. But Metal Muff can be nice too, because of the EQ and noise gate. My chain is Guild Polara Deluxe->PolyTune->Hyperluminal (Comp)->Earthquaker Plumes (TS)->GreenRussian(Muff)->QueeQeeg2(Oct)->MagusPro(RAT)->BluesDriver(OD)->TC SCF+(Mod)->Rubberneck(BBD)->Surfybear(Spring)->->DelVerb(TapeEcho/Hall)->Marshall JTM+Creamback stack for Dry fx+Spring & Vox AC30 pair in stereo for wet stereo fx. If I'm doing more ambient/drone, I add in Chase Bliss Mood mk..II, and Walrus Sloer or MercuryX. Very happy with the setup, but would like to experiment with adding a phaser, maybe even a stereo one, and something that does octave up like the Mandrake. Because the Earthquaker Life shows that combining that RAT, Muff with an Octave up pedal can sound amazing.

Cry Baby > Green Screamer > Swollen Pickle > Rat > Heavy Menace > Tuner > Tape Echo (this normally goes into amp, however, as a backup amp on my pedal board I also have an Orange Getaway Driver used as an Amp-In-A-Box through a DI Box. If my amp fails me, I can quickly remove the instrument cord from the tape echo and patch the tape echo into the Getaway Driver and plug the DI Box right into the PA, and we're back in business.)
I mostly use a Korg KP3 on "decimator" setting, pushed to the extreme it'll take. Sounds much like Drone Master. Gnarly.
I had hopes for the Op Amp BM reissue from EHX (that orange BM fuzz), but I can't get it singing like the OG was capable of (does easily work well on bass though).
But, maybe I'm not doing it right, which is usually the case when I meet such frustrations.

1- EQD Plumes as a boost (volumen all the way up. Tone at 3 for added brightness. No Gain. Mode 2 for no added compression just an open boost)
2- Proco Rat (Everything crancked up. Filter Barely open for just a little bit of high end. )
[Kind of cheating but using a Mark V amp sim on my modeler with a custom Cali IR]
3- Memory Man type delay in my modeler pedalboard with feedback linked to the exp pedal.
4- EQD Astral Destiny at the end of the chain going direct to PA on the Sub Mode.

@@FuzzlordEffects I have a boss MS-3 processor and switcher. Loop 1 is a DigiTech Ventura vibe, loop 2 is the BAT Black Forest, Loop 3 is the Supro Drive. I use the MS-3 mostly for the delays and some occasional playing with weird stuff.
For Doom I mostly use the Black Forest gain dimed volume at unity -> Supro Drive gain at 1 volume at unity -> real mild tape delay from the MS-3 - solid state Orange clean channel. (I only play for me and to annoy my wife and kids >_>)
The Supro had a great old vintage small amp cranked sound, a good bit of sag and I could probably almost get away with using it for doom without the fuzz if I cranked it but I love the Overdriver type distortion from the Black Forest.
Have you ever played a guitar that also has a body of aluminum and not just neck? In my experience it’s a world of difference

admittedly I aim to have a more 'lau nau with some dirt' sound than an 'electric wizard' type of sound. if I was going for a more classic desert type of sound I'd go wooly mammoth into a wah into fet120, no fourth pedal

I use a little modded MXR Dynacomp (bigger cap for more bass) in front of a MXR Sub machine fuzz (a brutal fuzz with upper and lower octave) and from this i go into a Joyo American Sound overdrive. I can switsch all three effects on and of and get many different more ore less heavy sound from fat and bluesy smooth overdrives to a groundshaking hellish vulcanos. As a guitar I use a Gretch Jet Baritone tuned in H.

I find a didgital delay after the gain sounds too synthetic, so I “analogise” it up front and it feels more like part of my playing as opposed to a digital echo.
I usually use the fuzz/distortion as a boost for the Amps gain channel in attempt to apply the pedal characteristics to the amp distortion without over saturating the tone

Another one to shout out is the Earthquaker Devices Hizumitas. Absolutely fucking vile fuzz, sometimes a little bit Too Much if you aren’t careful.
SF300 (in 1.5 setting) -> Marshall RG-1 (Regenerator, it has Chorus, Flanger, Phaser and a Uni-Vibe mode) -> Marshall Echohead (multiple delay types). Very versatile, good sound and you can get these for about 150 bucks total. This would be the setup I'd recommend to every doom-newbie to try out. DBA Fuzz War and EQD Acapulco are great pedals, too, but each costs more than the three I mentioned before..
Do you have any opinion on the Maestro FZ-M? Its based on the fuzz tone from back in the 60's and it seems to have a lot of high end content so I feel like it would pair well with a darker sounding low tuned guitar. For standard tuned guitar it sounds a bit harsh and I can't find any videos of it where they don't just play anything heavy 🤣 just generic rock riffs. I'm debating getting it because I like the overall character I'm just worried it would be too thin sounding lol. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a bit enamored by the aesthetic of the pedal especially the LED's and just the overall mid century modern look haha

Hi I'm Snake. Those are cool riffs. It's funny I have most of those pedals but I never play doom style. 😅 I usually just play fast fuzz riffs or psychotic gated fuzz madness. I will remember your Rat pedal because I've never owned a rat style pedal. I been looking for a modern version.
