Congratulations on purchasing your new JBL Bar 9.1. We’ll walk you through a few quick steps to help you get started. We’ll also provide a few tips and tricks most users will not know about, so with our guide, you’ll get the most out of your new Dolby Atmos soundbar system. The first step you’ll want to take is decide how you want to position your soundbar. The Bar 9.1 is designed to sit under your TV and it can also be wall-mounted. Wall-mounting brackets and instructions are included in the box. If you place the soundbar under your TV, we recommend separating the bar from the TV to give the upward-firing drivers enough clearance to direct sound up to your ceiling. There’s also rear-speakers that detach from the Bar 9.1, you can place them anywhere in your room for an immersive experience. JBL marks which rear-surround speaker is the left or right channel on the sides of each unit, so you’ll want to pay attention to that as that will affect the sound. When you detach the rear-speakers, it’s generally a good practice to place them on top of tables or even a pair of stands behind you. They’ll give you about 10 hours of wireless playtime, and when it’s time to charge, a red light will blink on top of each unit to let you know it's time to recharge.
If you’re just getting started with Dolby Atmos, usually, a quick google search is the best way to see a list of all the great Dolby Atmos content available. However, we have a fun Pro tip: you can see all the movies and TV shows encoded with this new surround format on Netflix and Amazon Prime just by typing the words “Dolby Atmos” into the platform’s search field. If you have Disney+, you'll have to search google for a comprehensive list of Dolby Atmos content, but we’re really impressed by the large collection of Dolby Atmos content available on Disney+, so be sure to check that out for the most movies encoded with Dolby Atmos.
After you plug in the power supply and make the necessary connections with your TV, the soundbar will automatically display helpful instructions right from the LED screen on the front of the bar. Next is the calibration process. Your Bar 9.1 will capture the unique properties of your room and then tune its output based on the acoustic readings it gathers - and it does all of this in just two simple steps. First, you’ll want to start the calibration process by placing the two detachable wireless rear-speakers behind you. Using the remote control that JBL includes in the box, hold down the button labeled “HDMI” for 3 seconds. The LED display on the front panel of the bar will count down the seconds for you. After this, the Bar 9.1 will output a few test tones directly from the soundbar and the rears. The internal microphones built inside the Bar 9.1 will automatically capture the acoustic properties of your living-space in less than a few minutes.
This concludes our tips and tricks for the JBL Bar 9.1. This should get you up and running so you can start enjoying all the great movies in this exciting Dolby Atmos format. If you’re looking for more audio equipment or if you have any questions that were not in our video feel free to chat with us on audioadvice.com, call us or if you’re in the area, come into any of our Raleigh or Charlotte NC locations. Thanks for the tips… just wanted to understand if I wish to permanently detach the surround speakers, would it be advisable to keep them in charge via USB at all times? Would this affect the overall battery life, performance, etc of the surround speakers considering it’ll always be on charging mode separated from the main bar?

What I do is connect both speakers to a dual USB brick that outputs at least 1A each. I believe mine is 2A each at this time. Attach the charging brick to a smart plug like wemo. Set a schedule as you please. I have it charging daily right after work for 1 or 2 hours when I will be most likely watching tv. By doing this you could just turn on your tv and your rears will auto connect without any input from you whatsoever.
I would setup the assistant with your smart plug too so that you could turn the charging on and off with your voice. I have a customized voice routine using Google or Nest products that will turn on the speakers and then it off right after if I ever want to just connect the rear speakers without the need of charging them. You could really do a lot like see a timer to always turn off your speakers after an hour of charging or so. You could even have it turn off at certain time at night so they it doesn't just charge overnight without you knowing.
      Good luck!

Why do you say that you should point the surround speakers with the connector facing away from you? The mounts for the surround to attach them to your wall put the connector to the side, so I would think that they are intended to be placed in that direction correct?

Great product, I love this soundbar. A few things I will add after having one for a few months :
    1. The subwoofer has settings for 1-5 with 5 being absurd amounts of bass. Hip hop music will shake your whole house.
    2. Don't stand in the way of the speakers during calibration, or it may take several tries to calibrate.
    3. The display panel will tell you which codec you are using when you first start a media file. This will ensure you are getting atmos or dts true hd.
    4. It doesn't seem that the detachable speakers charge during output when their battery is low. IE if you continue using the bar with the speakers docked they either don't charge or charge much slower than the typical 3 hour chargetime.
The only thing I don't like is the remote isn't backlit and the level adjustment buttons do not have a wake-up function. IE each time you press them they adjust the level, there isn't a first press to tell you which level you are on. Minor gripe, could get fixed in firmware.
Also my bar didn't come with mounting brackets or the magnet covers that are included in non US regions which I found strange but not a big deal.

All you have to do is press the small power button on the wireless speaker when that happens. Charge wise i haven't timed them but right around 10 hours of playback seems to be what i am getting. Probably varies a bit based on volume level.

Well I have some more tricks that amazed and annoyed me at the same time..
    1. Press Bass button for 5 seconds and then Vol UP will change to different modes
    2. 3rd, 4th and 6th mode will enhance dialogue to a surprisingly theater level, which I loved
    3. The downside, it will stop playing 5.1 content and only play stereo🙄👎
    4. To come out of the mode, factory reset is the only option
    5. Smart Mode is always ON and you need to keep checking with a Mute button hold for 3 sec and then vol up..
If the modes mentioned above can be included with 5.1, it will even beat a 2000$ soundbar hands down

Hi Greg. The internal batteries in the wireless detachable rear speakers have a battery indicator light that flashes to let you know when the battery is depleted and needs recharging. They charge when they are magnetically connected to the charging ports on the sides of Bar 9.1 soundbar. There is also a power input on each rear speaker that will let you connect them to a wall outlet for power and charging as well. I thought they would have more of a surround sound effect when placed in the back of my room. I even placed them directly close on the left and right side of my ears and they still seem very low. It seems most of the sound is coming from the actual soundbar itself and the detachable speakers sound better connected to the bar. When i demo'd this system at best buy they had the speakers spread apart and as a whole it sounded way better in the store than in my apartment. Am i missing something here? I just bought a JBL bar "9.1" sound bar system. I have a sony bravia 65x750h tv manufactured in 2016. it does not have an eARC connection. it does have a normal ARC hdmi connection. My question is will i even be able to use the dolby atmos features of the JBL bar 9 with this tv. I understand that arc can do compressed dolby atmos audio but what i dont know if my TV will send the signal or work in a way where the new soundbar actually presents a form of dolby atmos. Also if not then will this hdfury arcana you are talking about remedy the situation?

Happy Cyber Monday, friend! The JBL Bar 9.1 supports the newer enhanced version of HDMI ARC called “eARC.” eARC’s higher bandwidth allows true Dolby Atmos to be transmitted out to compatible devices. Even if your TV doesn't feature the newer eARC connection, the Atmos speakers will still be used to great effect. Right now, for Cyber Monday, you can save & get the JBL BAR 9.1 for less. I'm looking at an LG C1 77 inch and one of these but the spouse wants the TV mounted. Right now, the TV is in a corner, angled into the room, so the wall mount has to adjust to also rotate into the room while in use. Sonos (via Sanos) has a soundbar mount for a tv wall mount, but that seems to be the exception. I'm concerned "universal" soundbar TV mounts won't adjust well so that the upward firing speakers clear the TV adequately. Any recommendations on a TV wall mount for this soundbar?

Can i link a jbl flip or charge 4 to this JBL sound bar?

    • @AudioAdvice
      @AudioAdvice  2 роки тому

Do you mean to have them part of the surround system provided by the Bar 9.1? If so no, but you can use the JBL app to stream to different JBL speakers. Thanks for watching

I have Sony x900h .just bought JBL 9.1 sound bar.
I am facing issues like every time I have to manually power off tv and sound bar and then only it sync and start working.if I switch off tv from remote and again after some time start tv with remote sound bar display everything normal but no sound will come and again I have to power off tv and JBL soundbar and then it's start working ..
Sony x 900h has erc port and I m using hdmi 2.1 cable also have used the same cable provided by JBL .
But no luck both the cables same issues ..
There is anyway I can fix this or I have to switch off and switch on everytime using power plug ??
Can you please suggest solution ?
Also there is no way to upgrade JBL soft ware how to upgrade them ?

It sounds like you have an HDMI handshake issue. We have found HDMI cables 2m or longer have less issues than short ones- why we have no idea, that is just what we have seen in the field. You might also try turning off eArc and just doing arc to see what that does. If you purchased your JBL from Audio Advice, our support team can offer more help. Thanks for watching

@@AudioAdvice thanks a lot for your so accurate response.
I turned off earc on tv and it's working fine.as if now I don't need to switch off tv and soundbar from power point.
      Still i am mointoring .
I have also ordered a new 3 m 2.1hdmi cable with ethernet. I think my existing hdmi cable is not with ethernet.
If I am using only arc from tv this is going to do compromise over the sound quality for Dolby atoms contents ?

    • @AudioAdvice
      @AudioAdvice  2 роки тому

@@raj113able Arc delivers Atmos via Dolby Digital +, which is compressed from an audio standpoint, but all of the streaming apps also compress it as well. If you want the very best audio, add a bluray player. Glad we could help

@@AudioAdvice Thanks for your response .. I am watching mostly netflix, prime , hotstar and youtube. So probably i am not going to get degraded audio quality via tv arc port ?
Also i don't understand why sony x 900h earc port is not working with jbl bar earc port ? in future if i am going to use blue ray player the earc port of tv should be enabled and it should work with jbl bar ..

Any advice on how to "link" my tv remote volume with my SoundBar Volume. My tv will say like Volume 40 and SoundBar says 13.

    • @dimitrigoossens9082

They have different volume levels. So you cannot compare the tv level to the bar level.
If you can use your remote to control, the volume you are good
