    I have the original one. I need to fix the rudder hinge I think. Mine was ARF and I used a no name outrunner motor from a now defunct supplier. Thing was a rocket on 2200 3S. I need to drag it out, fix the rudder and put it back in the air. Really classic plane, I'm glad to see it come back for a new generation of modelers, many of which have probably never flown a balsa plane!

    OK just finished watch the whole cotton pickin vid (cept skipping the commercials)... OMG the sound this plane makes is MUSIC.... OK thanks to vid gotta go back thru your link and order the wheel pants, patch kit and aileron pushrod set... Now just gonna need some more 4S Batts I'm thinkin this plane is gonna need at least 4 batts on hand at all times... Great Flying Adam, checked off all the boxes, want to see an outside loop in the future but this is another Slam Dunk from HH...

    " A stick is just like that, different ". Agreed! Have an old one built from scratch to a design by another member of my usual club that was intended to run on a glow 0"46 engine but when he maidened it he hated it and offered it to me. I saw the maiden and already had ideas to sort it so, hell yeah. He (naturally) took his engine and servos. He had the elevator and rudder servos at the tail so first thing I did was work strip off the heavy piano wire LG and the steerable nose wheel, replace with very light carbon gear mounted a bit forward of the COG and put a carbon tail wheel mount minus any wheel to use as a skid and pit skinny little 3 inch super light wheels on, work out what brushless electric to pull it around and screwed that on (a Turnigy SKS 35 42 (I think) assuming I could get the overall weight down enough, throw a 4S 2200 battery in and see how if any weight was needed at the tail and I think it worked out about perfect with the new push rod elevator and rudder setups with the servos mounted right under the wing, about where they'd normally go on a .46 sized trainer.
    That thing could take off in about 6 feet with a light headwind and was an absolute joy to fly. I even let the builder stick a receiver of his (he flew mode 1 and I'm mode 2) in, set it up to suit the model and he now liked it. It had too much weight at the distant ends making it somewhat unresponsive. Now it was great. I did offer it back, just at the cost of the motor + speedy or he could take it and reset it up again but he said no thanks, though he saw how much fun I was having with it, he offered to make me another 'IF' I ever crashed it! Well, it's had 2 mid airs, one lost the rudder, landed safely, the other took about 2/3rds of the elevator off and dangling behind in the wind, also landed safely but, guess who I had BOTH mid airs with hmm. Yep, same guy lol, maybe having second thoughts? Nah, it was just bad luck but so freaky. It's actually in need of some major rebuilding thanks to THIS dumb character forgetting to take the damned radio out of range check mode🤦‍♂. It WILL fly again, meanwhile I'm going to try and get one of these awesome little beasties.

      @@ModelAV8RChannel Thanks! Sorry I rambled so much. Watching this reminded me just how much fun one can be. I don't know what it is about that simple, basic design but they are unique somehow. My preference is usually something with a symmetrical, mid mounted neutral wing that flies the same whichever way up it is and that one hasn't even got a symmetrical wing, THIS one has, and has been designed as electric from the start so should be even more fun. It clearly is much lighter. I did reduce the flying weight of that one by about 2 pounds but it worked out about the same size as this one but needed a bigger motor pushing up around 800 Watts to really make it fun while that has a fair bit smaller motor yet rips so looks awesome fun.
      Damn, got to stop watching flying videos, that itch is biting and I can feel my wallet crying already lol.

    Great review and flying as always Adam. I love "sticks" for fun flying and they make great "2nd planes" . Enable the flaps and add large tyre and you have a nifty little bush plane. But for me, if it was a little larger at 50" (1.26m) I would buy one.
    My balsa HKing Crusader, populated with Tundra parts on 4S with 200% thrust, was my Go-To for years, my HD platform and my FPV flight control craft.

    Very awesome, Looks like another winner. I have had a couple pf MUS and I pretty much grew up flying old ugly sticks. I maiden on a 40 sized ugly stick with a 40 sized OS engine on it. that was such a nice flying plane. then i had the Midwest Sweet stick for many many years. I still have the Great please Electrostik and have considered the larger 60 sized one from I think its hanger nine but never got it. This looks like a fun one to have. perfect sized packs that i already have 4s 2200-2700mah. I like that they kept the see through covering on bottom always made it cool looking i thought. Glad to see updated the tail some and the landing gear/mounting to fuse. This is a interesting motor .I will have to do some research on it. seems like it got great power for the flight times you said you was getting. But low enough Amps to only need a 45amp controller, very nice.

      Thanks Chris! It is a winner for sure man. I love Sticks, they made me a better pilot back in the day. They did their homework on this one. The power system is efficient, but really strong! Keep in mind I manage throttle well and fly them slow part of the time. I know a kid at the field that would get 4 min...Lol. That boy is wide open!

Excellent review that included slow and high speed acrobatics. Got a good feeling that HH will sell a bunch of these. I really like the direction they are going with balsa. Saying that, I’m ready for a balsa warbird in the 1.5m to 2.5m wingspan range. Hint hint Ali or Jason if you see this message. 👍😉

    A superb plane and I'm blown away how the back just bolts up instead of spending time with measuring tapes, CA and panic ... A pity there's no plug & play version but I guess not a big deal to source the appropriate parts for the ARF.

  • @snoriverrc3842
    @snoriverrc3842 Рік тому +1

    I liked your detailed explanation of the wing configuration. I'm kind of disappointed that flaps arent installed at that price point. I dont understand why they would do all the work except adding the servos. Very nice plane. I like it better than the larger version. Sticks are fun to fly. I hope the gear hold up. I hate tearing them out of balsa.
    As to ease of getting in the air, the OMP Bighorn is extremely easy. It just needs the receiver installed, and cowl/spinner attached, which can be a little frustrating. The OMP Decathlon is probably similar. Both fantastic first balsa planes though.

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  Рік тому +2

      Yeah man I have the Decathlon, its very easy to get going, but not this quick. This is a great plane...I love Sticks!
      Man, with everything costing more now a days...labor in China, components, and shipping...the cost of two servos and the labor to get them in would add $15 to $20 bucks per plane, and many already think 329 is high. You have to think about what they have to do, and remember this is in addition to already building a laser cut kit...which costs the same in labor that a big kit does...the steps are the same, but the small plane has to be sold for much less by the retailer. To add two servos...they have to cut the covering, drill the holes, screw in the servo screws, back them out, add thin ca to harden the threads, then place the servo, screw the screws back in, thread the wire, add the Y harness, and plug it all up. The servos probably cost HH between $4 and $8 depending on quality, and this would add about 15 to 20 minutes of labor if they are fast. Its all about compromise and price point. They get to a certain point, and you just can't add anymore to it. Nice we have the option to add it ourselves though.
      The other thing to consider is the full span ailerons are fine for most pilots. It slows down fine without flaps and the average pilot has no need or desire for crow. Lol.
