Thank you Chris for doing these videos. I've been watching for a while and am inspired. You are doing great work and please continue! Best wishes on your travels!
My dad had a stroke 9 years ago. I have been his primary caregiver since then. Now, he is in-home hospice; his days are numbered. I am his POA, executor, and sole heir. His estate is valued between 700-800k USD. I am 56, single, disabled and collect SSDI. I have no family to speak of. When my dad dies I have no one and have no reason to stay -- I have to find a new life somewhere doing something. I have no knowledge of investing. I am afraid of risky financial ventures. I have been somewhat preparing for dad's departure by watching YT videos about SE Asia focusing on Thailand. I need to figure out the most prudent and conservative route to invest...
@desdenova - I agree. You are a good, caring child & person. It's tough to be a caregiver - I've been one. I don't have advice re: investing. But if you're looking to base yourself in TH, I think Pattaya (Jomtien) or Hua Hin (for beach) or Chiang Mai (for mountains) are good, soft landing spots. CM (or the north) is also a bit cheaper than the beach areas. Disadvantage: air quality is bad for ~3 months during burning/ smokey season. Ppl living there use that time to travel to other parts of TH or nearby countries (if they can afford to). Good luck in your future plans.
My suggestion: find a Fee Only Financial Advisor, who is a professional (unlike me) and will give you advice without trying to sell you investments that pay commissions. Tell them you are a retired and disabled person who is looking to invest for a long term, stable income that minimizes risk. They'll understand your situation and guide you to investments that are very low risk and produce a stable income... good, boring advice like Chris preaches, but this kind of investing rarely gets a million UA-cam views so it's not popular. Following the "4% rule" theory, your inheritance of $700k should be able to produce $28k a year in income, or around $2000-ish a month. That plus your SSDI (which you can take overseas, no worries) is plenty for a nice life in Thailand or a number of other places. Sell everything, go travel for a while, and find where feels like home to you.
Not a financial advisor but retired early on dividends in my 30s. I highly suggest you learn about dividend paying ETFs and other types of funds. That way you eliminate risk from single stocks and never have to worry about earnings or what any CEO says or does again. Mix 5 to 10 of them and you are good. A lot of people like SCHD for example. PBDC for business development companies. Just two examples. A portfolio paying out 4%-7% is definitely achievable that way.
@@DesDeNova-USA I’m sorry about your dad. I agree with previous comments, find a Financial advisor for fee only, just to provide advise, but there are plenty of info on YT. Watch out for expense ratios. Best of luck

The key to investing in stocks is not to fall in love / infatuation with any company. If the company cuts its distribution like AT&T did a couple yrs ago than you cut your loses and don't fall in love with the stock because you owned it for 10 yrs +.. Once retired it maybe better to buy a diversified fund than picking and choosing individual stocks which some income focused funds pay a higher yield than the individual stocks (if your objective is to generate a higher current cashflow rather than focusing on growth than income focused funds are a better choice).
CORRECT Chris!! Dull is beautiful with dividend stocks. Pipelines are an excellent choice. Also RIO and PICK as they are involved in essential commodities. My holdings also have some BDC's and REIT's. Also check out some CEF's and ETF's to have diversified holdings within your sector of choice, such as health care or Tech. My portfolio is averaging about 7-8%. Even during the turn down during COVID when some companies cut their dividends, I still received 90% of my pre-Covid dividends. As of now they are all back were they were and then some! Best way to finance your travels.
I have done well with FEPI ETF dividend. They are not a long term investment in my opinion, But the payout has been great and is every month. You just have to watch it closely to know when to sell your shares. As long as they give what they are giving I will stay with them but will sell if I sense that they will collapse. Its a higher risk investment.but sometimes you need to take some risk. Otherwise I usually go with less risky and less yield stocks.
Good video, Chris. It's nice to know about the Italian food places. In two weeks, I've only seen two dogs in Thailand: one carried by its owner and the other in a resort. I've seen a few cats, though. In the Philippines, in some areas, there seems to be more dogs than humans!
Another great video, Chris. Hope all is well, my friend. Would love a video dedicated to a pathway into IT. What top 3 certs would you get? CompTIA, Security+, Network +? I'm 42 now, about 8-10 years from embarking on the slow travel journey, but looking for a change from the energy sector.
Thanks for sharing your strategy. There are some solid performing dividend/distribution paying ETF's here in Australia. Even better if you can claim back some of the tax they pay on your behalf. Downside is often low or no growth in the value of the underlying ETF price. I'm assuming that your 6% return doesn't include increases in the value of the underlying stock. That increase in unrealised capital gain also provides a hedge against inflation, particularly if you are realising a 6% return on the ever increasing value of your portfolio, thereby increasing the dollar return whenever the stock price increases. Your yield as a % of your original investment then becomes 7%, 8% and so on over time. So it may work well for you as a short-term strategy, but I suspect it will pay off even better over the long-term. Boring is good.
❤those lists. Keep 'em coming! I managed to identify some that meet the 6%+ criterion yet with a Zacks "buy" rank. Definitely got those on my watchlist now. Thanks a lot. Hey did you see that mad cat's ears? Those are like bat ears! 🤣

You are most welcome I will try to do dividend videos each month ok? Yes, I try to keep a few weeks videos ahead so I can deal with an unexpected illness or issue
How do you plan to deal with inflation in the long run? My biggest concern is inflation. Even 2% annual inflation can cause a dramatic increase in cost of living (10 years = 20% increase, 20 years = 40+% increase). And most countries will likely create inflation to make it easier to pay off their debts. So while I feel I have a balanced budget now, I'm not sure how I can continue to grow my monthly income to offset the likely inflation costs of the future. Any thoughts?
@@RetireandGo I agree, that's the best option. If you can live under-budget and re-invest those dividends (DRIP), then you can likely beat inflation. Cheers!
I strongly suggest you to have 5k or 10k paper account starting Jan 01 in order to show the viewers how your stock picks will do by the end of each quarter in 2025. I m sure you will get to 30k sub faster if you do that.
This is an interesting idea! Sigh … I’m filming and editing 12 hour days Typing this … in bed ! Haha I honestly don’t know how much more I can do :-) But dang this is a good idea
Those Italian places look good! But FYI, Domino's and Pizza Hut make decent enough pizza for really great prices if you don't want to spend a lot, and they deliver too. They often have buy 1 get 1 free promotions for around 385 THB. What a steal!
Great videos, man. You grow up in Hawaii? You have a straightforward Michigan vibe and mentioned the Midwest. Authenticity is the currency of the future in media. I wish you continued success on your channel. You ever try Portanova Pizza and Cuccina on 3rd road and Soi Lengkee? I hear it’s amazing food and run by a real Italian chef.
Hi, I know it’s not really your thing, but could you explain how you studied for IT, I’m wanting to take my CCNA to boost my income and pay off debts. Any help/advice would greatly help
Another great vid, thank you Chris. Question for you - not sure if too personal - but how was your decision to retire and go/minimalist affected by your kids - did you wait until they went to college? I know you mentioned you were divorced but did you wait until your kiddos were set up on their own? Thank you for your continued inspiration.
It’s good to teach our kids a life outside of consumerism. But to actually show them it’s possible! To prove investing long term can change a life. These are the most valuable lessons. Lead by example :-)
Happy new year Chris! I don’t think it’s a good time to invest in anything right now the markets are overextended. We may have a big correction at the end of this year or beginning of next year, or we may never have it, but you do not invest in stock market right now you sit in cash and wait , you are up for the last two years around 50% so if any of the markets correct 30% you’re still be fine, just my opinion, brother,
Hello, I enjoy your videos and I have the same idea as you. From one investor to another may I ask why you go individual stocks instead of etf's? I did single stocks for years and consolidated to about 6 etfs and see better returns. I don't know everything so I'm asking your thoughts please and thank you sir.
Thought of an idea that MAY be perfect for Thailand but want to share it with you since the idea came from you. It is a business where you need very few people involved and all that is needed is cheap land that can be elevated 4 or 5 feet above the area so it stays dry. In the USA we have these buildings in every small town or large city….interested?
That pizza is definitely $30 in Canada! But the way a lot of folks do stuff is go for a large buy one get one free and share it with 4 friends. Each person still pays $6. Unfortunately western societies focus on isolating us so that companies can keep making crazy profits. When is the last time you shared a pizza with 5 others or borrowed a Home Depot tool from your brother? They focus on forcing us to buy one each.
Exxon currently down 10% over the last 3 months. Just about everything is down over the last month.I regret listening to You Tubers telling me to invest. I'm losing money. Put it in the bank folks
Warren Buffett likes to tell folks who ask why so few people are able to emulate his success that it's because nobody starts out looking for a "get rich slowly " scheme. Unfortunately, those are the o nly ones that work. Choose good companies with solid financials, or invest in index funds to rise with the tide. Day trades, covered calls, and crypto are fancy ways of saying "I'm gambling."
As much as you think crypto is "gambling", there are fairly clearly defined 2.5 years "up" and 1.5 years "down" trends with the Bitcoin cycles. If you just buy in roughly 18 months after the previous cycle top, you are pretty much guaranteed to have 10x or more returns two years later.
@@hubertcumberdale2651Past performance does not guarantee future performance. In fact, because crypto is propped up on a "bigger fool" fallacy, the market will eventually find the largest fools and punish them severely. Stock owners actually own a piece of a company. Crypto addicts are betting on team red.
No Chris, but you given me a lot of great advice and nobody has a crystal ball but most of your stocks are oil energy and that is a dying industry and dying fast. I am a huge Tesla fan and Elon fan. I walk the walk and both I and my son have a model 3 and they are the bomb of the world but 99% of the public are clueless .
Sigh … I’m filming and editing 12 hour days
Typing this … in bed ! Haha
I honestly don’t know how much more I can do :-)
But dang this is a good idea
What you think about daytrading to risky?
Oh my yes
Only the sharpest should try that
That isn’t me haha :-)
Those Italian places look good! But FYI, Domino's and Pizza Hut make decent enough pizza for really great prices if you don't want to spend a lot, and they deliver too. They often have buy 1 get 1 free promotions for around 385 THB. What a steal!
Cool ! :-)
Everything in Thailand taste good.
True I agree
Great videos, man. You grow up in Hawaii? You have a straightforward Michigan vibe and mentioned the Midwest. Authenticity is the currency of the future in media. I wish you continued success on your channel. You ever try Portanova Pizza and Cuccina on 3rd road and Soi Lengkee? I hear it’s amazing food and run by a real Italian chef.
Great point
My dad was military so we moved a lot haha
Hi, I know it’s not really your thing, but could you explain how you studied for IT, I’m wanting to take my CCNA to boost my income and pay off debts. Any help/advice would greatly help
Oh yes
My earliest videos were about IT contracting
Professor Messer on UA-cam
CCNA and CompTIA cert study
The best
Study, test, cert up !
XOM lost lots of NAV, which will reduce your dividends... you may be better just buying SCHD...
SCHD is nice !
4:51 I can't eat spaghetti (or pho) without sacrificing a shirt. I need a bib. Or a poncho.
I totally understand!
:-)
We may have a big correction at the end of this year or beginning of next year, or we may never have it, but you do not invest in stock market right now you sit in cash and wait , you are up for the last two years around 50% so if any of the markets correct 30% you’re still be fine, just my opinion, brother,
The markets are up for sure !
Dividends work for many. My path went to rental properties, then precious metals, then to bitcoin. Very conservative, but it works for me.
Nice! Thank you for this feedback
:-)
Happy new year
Gotta have garlic bread and red wine to go alone with it. Lol! Enjoy, Cheers!
Yes true :-)
Hello, I enjoy your videos and I have the same idea as you. From one investor to another may I ask why you go individual stocks instead of etf's? I did single stocks for years and consolidated to about 6 etfs and see better returns. I don't know everything so I'm asking your thoughts please and thank you sir.
Hey the main thing is you are researching and investing
I can’t advise anyone
I can only talk about what I do :-)
Keep going !
Interesting ideas !
You are a real estate guy?
EPD and ET are MLPs. Because of how they're taxed, best avoided in a traditional IRA.
Nice
I appreciate the feedback
That pizza is definitely $30 in Canada! But the way a lot of folks do stuff is go for a large buy one get one free and share it with 4 friends. Each person still pays $6. Unfortunately western societies focus on isolating us so that companies can keep making crazy profits. When is the last time you shared a pizza with 5 others or borrowed a Home Depot tool from your brother? They focus on forcing us to buy one each.
Yes true
Happy new year to you
Exxon currently down 10% over the last 3 months. Just about everything is down over the last month.I regret listening to You Tubers telling me to invest. I'm losing money. Put it in the bank folks
Don’t listen to anyone but yourself after doing your own research
That’s the way
Don’t adjust the color on your screen 😂
Haha :-)
First time seeing the yakuza style tattoo
Haha which one? :-)
That's gotta be a 4,000 calorie day!🐽😂
I'm thinking about moving more into Energy.
True haha
I need to add more walking after this :-)
Nice video brother, you're my favorite balding white male youtuber.
lol got it
Happy new year
Invest in KMB. The world will always need their product, toilet tissue, and AI will never make it obsolete.
Good point !
Coke is boring
Not on New Year’s Eve …
Wait …
What are we talking about?
Are you a tax resident of Thailand?
No, US, I travel as a visitor
And dividend taxation is the best
Warren Buffett likes to tell folks who ask why so few people are able to emulate his success that it's because nobody starts out looking for a "get rich slowly " scheme. Unfortunately, those are the o nly ones that work. Choose good companies with solid financials, or invest in index funds to rise with the tide. Day trades, covered calls, and crypto are fancy ways of saying "I'm gambling."
I love that quote from him
The best
How dare you have tan lines! 😂
Haha
True
I need to even it out haha
All assets will go progressively to zero against Bitcoin and other good cryptos
Goodness I hope not haha
I own Bitcoin via my Tesla stock though
Happy new year, and live long and prosper Mr Spock
@RetireandGo God bless 🙏
Hey Chris, do you own some Bitcoin?
I own Tesla stock they hold Bitcoin :-)
Too much junk on your pizza. Lol
Haha I understand
Chris I know you are smarter than me but honestly I don’t like 90% of your dividend stock
You are probably smarter than me !!
Next I like the monthly dividend ETF’s, way better than the quarterly energy dividend stocks you have. I am going to Thailand in early February and try to copy your amazing lifestyle. I would love to meet you . Actually I am a white farmer from Kansas
what do you think about SGOV? pays monthly and it's 4.5% per year
Not bad at all !
Invest, build, learn, keep going
@@RetireandGo Thanks man, great channel BTW
