The fact that you can be called out and be able to be involved with a product manufacturer just shows just how far reaching your videos are! That alone is a compliment, but it also says alot about Diesel Logic . What works and improvements to those products just make for a better product for the end user.
I have rebuilt a few of those units and there are some steps that many want to skip but, I can tell you they can make a real big difference in engine performance. When a manufacturer takes the time, effort and cost to put out a TSB they are important!!
Keep up the good work Ray!

It would be great if you could take the old injectors to put on their flow bench if possible. Avid watcher from down under.

For sure, you really shouldn’t be too concerned about that. The jobs you record are relevant repairs and the technical approach you apply is, at once, an inspiration. If the job requires a specific amount of video, let her rip. That’s what makes you all the more unique.

Good work by Diesel Logic reaching out without going into a full blown retaliation game. I'd use them if I had both a diesel and something they provide parts for just on the strength of that 'let's see what's going on, and get it sorted positively' attitude. That's the way to do business 👍(Also I'm in the UK so they may not service the market).
Good to see Ray owning the mistake of repeating second hand reviews too.
All round sounds like a great outcome from a scenario that too often turns into a bitter back and forth.

I don't see Ray talking bad about anything without considerable thought. What I see is Ray talking with experience on the subject. So, it's a very good move from Diesel Logic to reach out and try to talk, instead of going for legal battle in the court of law like so many "big companies" do. Who knows, maybe Ray can come up with some idea and help improve the design and overall performance of the parts. Also, a visit to the manufacturing plant would be great to watch, knowing all that is involved with the production of said parts.

I appreciate Diesel Logic's approach here, shows they care.
I do not consider myself an injector expert but I have spent a number of years working exclusively on Duramaxs. I've diagnosed and replaced a lot of bad injectors.
Again, not an expert, but my understanding is that lb7 injectors have an internal design that makes it difficult to properly remanufacture.
Maybe things have changed, but in the past many if not most aftermarket injector rebuilders have struggled to turn out a good lb7 injector. Because of this I used to exclusively buy the actual Bosch remans from the original manufacturer of the lb7 injector.
This doesn't mean the injector remanufacturers aren't good at their job it just means that this particular injector is an especially difficult one to get right.

    • @zacknelson8918
      @zacknelson8918 7 місяців тому

The biggest problem with lb7 is the fuel cap where the injector sits, and you have to take everything off to get to them, nothing wrong with the injector alone, just the design of where it was put and the sleeves they were installed into( sleeves aka cups)

    Hello Ray from Australia🙃
Good job and a little tip to keeping that top rocker cover in line is to make two temporary studs to lower it on to, bolts with the heads cut off or I've even used bits of wooden dowel to do it.
Fit the cover and take them out when you have some bolts in it..

    • @SeanBZA
      @SeanBZA 7 місяців тому +4

Made plenty of those, cut the head off then either cut a slot, or grind into a square or triangle, that a 12 point socket will fit on. Especially on cylinder heads, long stud made from old stretch bolt works wonders to get alignment, you put the studs in the holes the dowel pins use, and it make putting on a breeze, and ensures it is right.

Even though there are nearly 200 comments, those shadetree mechanics who are watching and reading with the notion of doing an injector replacement on their own unit, may I offer a bit of added commentary. I took about 30 hours to replace mine on an '02. I was ultimately successful, but.... I removed the front wheels and lowered the front end to make things more accessible. The rear valve cover fasteners were really tough. I just had to be patient. And, lastly, I didn't have the feed lines torqued down enough when I finally went to start the unit. It took several tries and re-torques to ultimately get every thing to stop leaking. Advice: if you have the funds, take to Ray!!! If not, it's doable, but be ready for a long process.

Unless there are some other circumstances it seems like 8 years should not cause fuel injectors to fail. I have two vehicles, one 18 years old and the other 14 years old, both with the original injectors and both run well.... That said it would be interesting to hear what Diesel Logic has to say about the bad injectors once they have an opportunity to do their own autopsy.

An honest person can always admit when they might be wrong and have an unbiased conversation to resolve an argument or point of view comment.
The fact that Dieselogic were prepared to reach out to you to ask why you gave a negative opinion of their product just goes to show that customer satisfaction and product development is important to them.
It also shows that you are always prepared to learn something new.
I look forward to seeing the tour video like you did with Blanks products.
Keep up the high moral standards.

When they first came out I had 1 that on a cold start it had a puff of white smoke when engine was warm they didn't do that. Come to fine out the injector sleeve was leaking small amount of coolant at the sealing surface at the bottom of sleeve where it meets the head so Gm had me pull the sleeve and put new seal and put a small amount of locktite on the bottom of sleeve at that time they didnt have a tool to pull them in the field so I made one from 2 bolts welded together anywho they wanted to see it and they made one from my design. They didn't even give me a thank you or anything made me mad lol.

Can’t say I agree with not install new injector hold down bolts, seen them break and send the injector out through the valve cover. Granted it wasn’t on an automotive diesel engine it was on a 3512 Cat haul truck engine. But just my opinion, love the vids keep them coming.

A clear sign that you are a man is admitting that your wife is always right. A clear sign that you are an honest and intelligent person is looking at all sides of a situation, admitting that you don't always get things right the first time and giving a listen to all sides and in the end, agreeing to whatever your wife thinks.
You're a good guy, Ray and that's one of many reasons I trust you.

Those Dremel tools are great! I've used mine to cut partway through a radiator hose so I could pull it off the radiator, and I've used the Dremel to cut through the hard plastic cases the Mint ships proof coins in, and I've used it to cut through a pipe that I needed to replace in my shower.

As much as I love my pneumatic and power tools because of their efficiency & time saving abilities. I do have to say that nothing beats a dremel/rotary tool. Simply because of the abundant fittings that can do almost everything with a simple change of heads. Automotive tools have come so far it really is amazing. What used to take a day, is now just a couple of hours.
Many thanks Ray for showcasing every nook and cranny aspects to do it all right. Passing on your magical tips and tricks has shown and given more confidence to this old dog. =D

Ray you had your place to say what you thought of DL I understand as a business owner you have to do what's in the best interest of your Company. But that doesn't change the fact I know several duramax owners that HAD SEVERAL ISSUES with the DL injectors and swore to never use them again. In the end they went with the S&S and were happy with the product I felt bad that you had to go back and kinda retract your previous statements which are on par with those I know that had real issues with the DL injectors. But you did work things out your a honest mechanic and trustworthy is the reason why you did what you did. Long time viewer and monthy supporter of your channel Ray Lauren and family be safe and have a great day. Holla from Morgan County Alabama!!!!

Sweet, road trip! Glad to hear that Diesel Logic reached out to you and you were willing to own up to what you said and willing to make things right.
If you are unsure if a bolt is torque to yield, take the number on the head of the bolt and google it. You should get all the torque specs for it including the yield point. So if the specs from the auto manufacture is below the yield point for that bolt, then its good to use again.

Ray, the O-ring seal on the injector that you remembered to lube before installing isn't to prevent "water intrusion " but rather to keep oil from draining down past the seal and also to keep diesel from migrating up into the oil above the seal in the event you have a partial crush seal failure. Enjoyed the video 👍
