  • I started off my first trip of the summer with the beautiful Elba Island in Italy! This solo trip definitely was an adventure (as you will see) but I hope you enjoy coming along with me. I visited some popular beaches such as Capobiano and Padulella in Portoferraio and did a boat trip from Marina di Campo. It's a beautiful island and I highly recommend this hidden gem if you're looking for crystal-clear waters and beautiful beaches. Let me know if you would like to see more travel videos like this. Thanks for watching! 🌊
    **I added Italian subtitles to this video! Click on the subtitle button on the bottom right. ;) Please note I did not write them all out by hand, they are automatically translated so if there are errors, I apologize, but hopefully, it can help a little for my Italian subscribers!

    I used to come here on vacation
    twice a year as a kid. They were some of my happiest times, It’s still one of my all time favourite places. When I was 17 I swore I would go back & live in Capoliveri or Porto Azzurro one day. It’s a very beautiful island xx
    I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy your trip as much as you hoped to

    You're so much calmer than I would've been! I love traveling alone, but it sometimes involves me going into a bathroom stall to shed a few tears, freshen up, and get back out there. Thanks for sharing your journey, as Elba does look stunning!

      Hahah trust me, I've been there. I don't always capture the roughest moments on camera. It's very true though, solo traveling can be very difficult and stressful! Elba was amazing, hopefully I get to go back and have a smoother trip!

    I live there and I'm also a student in Bologna, so I know how this kind of situations with trains can be stressful . If you want a tip for your next trip to Elba is to go in the early season 'cause like in july/august the water is not that clean and the beaches are sooo full :)

    • @SheaJordan
      @SheaJordan  6 місяців тому +1

      Yeah, taking multiple trains was stressful, but despite that, I really enjoyed Elba! I’d love to go back with someone so I can have some help 😂 Maybe it was too much to do for a solo trip. I think I went a bit too early, because there was practically no one on the beaches and the bus schedules were limited. Thanks for the tips!

    Shea, I took your recommendations on TV shows and was able to find Skam Italia & Mare Fuori in the US. I am obsessed with Mare Fuori! I watched all 3 seasons in a few days, just like I did with Baby. Have you been to Naples? One thing I wasn’t sure was how Filippo was understanding his girlfriend & friends if they spoke Napolatean and he didn’t. That didn’t make sense to me. Love your videos and hope you make more soon!

    • @SheaJordan
      @SheaJordan  Рік тому +1

      That's great! I love those shows so much! I've been to Naples twice, yes, but before I saw Mare Fuori. Talking to many Italians here, people who don't speak the Neapolitan dialect wouldn't be able to understand much if anything, so I think for the show they kind of glossed over that. 😂 At some points later on in the show Filippo says some things in dialect or tries to, to show that he's "learned" it. I think the show just kind of brushed over that hahah and made us assume he just was able to learn the dialect quickly. I had to use standard italian subtitles the whole time because otherwise I wouldn't have understood.

      @@SheaJordan Thank you, Shea! I am glad to hear your perspective on them glossing over it. Makes me feel better because I thought I was missing something and have no one to ask since I know zero Italian people. Thank you again and look forward to your next video. 😊

    OMG, I totally understand you! I was in Italy in June as well, but in Como Lake. What should be a nice and chill travel end up in a nightmare because of the terrible transport public structure Italy has, out of holiday season. I left Italy hating everything (also because of other few things that happened during my days there) but then I decided to give another chance and I'm going to Elba Island next week. I truly hope to have a good experience this time, because its a beautiful country after all.

    The train mess is a great classic of the Italian train system.
    As a matter of fact I'm always dumbfounded when I hear foreign ppl speaking great about our public transportation system ... too bad it happened to you on a holiday trip 😵‍💫

    • @SheaJordan
      @SheaJordan  Рік тому

      Hahah to be honest I actually have had good luck with the train system throughout my year of living here! This was by far my worst experience. I've dealt with some delays but never something like this. I think people like your transportation system because in the US for example, we don't have trains like this, so for us it's convenient and amazing even if it doesn't always go smoothly. ;)

    • @marcodb65

      @@SheaJordanTraveling solo is such a huge topic for me! I look up to people who can do it and I totally get that it's subjective, but for me, not having the joy of sharing the whole experience in the moment with a friend or whoever I care about, is almost pointless! I can barely get any gratification out of it.
      It would be interesting if you talked about this in one of your next sit-down videos.
      Anyway, I'm really sorry for the outcome of this trip, it was kind of a nightmare!

    This is not helpful at all. No details about how to go there, no names of beaches, restaurants, places you stayed at.
    Unhelpful and un informative. 👎👎👎

    • @SheaJordan
      @SheaJordan  Рік тому

      Because it’s not an informational video about what to do in Elba. It’s a vlog sharing my experience for my followers. I don’t make videos with recommendations for travelers but many other channels do. Plus I did share the names of every one of the beaches I went to and explained how I got there (by train and ferry). If you’d like travel tips, there are plenty of other channels who create informational videos for tourists like that, but my channel is not one of them. Thanks!

    Hi, can you tell me please, did you pre-book your Ferry to Elba or just turn up and pay at a desk? I was looking for this information yesterday but couldn't find out if I could just turn up and buy a ferry ticket (as a foot passenger with no car). Thanks.

    • @SheaJordan
      @SheaJordan  9 місяців тому

      I paid at the desk but I went during the low season. Some people told me during the high season (summer) that you should pre-book. Although maybe if you don’t have a car you would still be fine showing up and getting a ticket cuz the ferries are huge.

  • @emanemanresuresu
    @emanemanresuresu Рік тому

    I guess a small car would have made your life a bit more easy there. Of course, the bus line is a great and cheap thing there, but with a car you are free there and can reach more places i guess. Also i think it is more common there to get a appartment than living in a hotel, so nobody will enter your room. But of course this has its downsides if you like the roomservice. I guess the ability to speak italian also made your life easier a lot.

    • @SheaJordan
      @SheaJordan  Рік тому

      I actually can’t drive here since I don’t have an international drivers license and I’m also too afraid to drive here 😅😂 Yeah, sometimes when I solo travel I prefer a hotel because it feels safer knowing other people are there rather than me staying in a house alone. But it was ok!

    You know what? In Europe, English should be spoken as the Italian... as a first language... but it's not like that and most of the time italian people doesn’t speak English at all! This is why you had a pizza with rucola instead of bufala!!!😡 European Comunity should force all the European Countries to make speak european citizens in English the same as their first language! Maybe my idea is so extreme but if it was, travelling would be so much easier for everyone 😉
