  • I'm moving to Italy! 🇮🇹 In this video, I'm sharing some tips on how to move to Italy (or just how to move abroad in general). First off I'll share what Italian city I'm going to study in! I'm super excited for this HUGE step in my Italian language journey. Later in the video, I walk you through the process of getting a student visa, what's needed, and how to prepare for your visa appointment. Finally, I share my timeline of preparing for my move as well as some budgeting to keep in mind before moving abroad. Moving to another country requires a lot of planning and dedication, but I absolutely cannot wait for this new adventure in 2022.
    As mentioned in the video, please comment below any recommendations you have for me for housing, good neighborhoods, or where to find apartments. Any help is greatly appreciated!

  • @MetalMike87
    @MetalMike87 2 роки тому

    Congrats! It's not the best time with everything is going on, but I hope you'll enjoy your stay.
    Couple of suggestions:
    1) Car market in Italy is totally different. I don't think it will be wise to buy one since there's a lot of paperwork and the used market is really stiff. Also there are some mandatory obligations such as insurance which applies just to the car itself, no to the person as in some US-states; mechanical revision which is targeted by the age of the vehicle; etc...
    It will be much easier to rent one when you need it from popular rent-a-car services (Hertz, Avis, Europcar, you-name-it). SInce you're gonna stay in Bologna you can have access to car sharing (Enjoy) and Uber, but do not take them for granted wherever you're gonna go in Italy. Usually they're available only in the big cities
    2) Covid related stuff 🤐 ... I'd rather not talk about it, but it is what it is. As of now you're gonna need a full vaccination (2 shots) to have access to all the facilities and shops. In the nearest future you're gonna need the 3rd shot as well. Hopefully with spring and summer the limitations will lessen, but be prepared to a full shock: as of now FFP2 masks are mandatory on public transportations, public events in open spaces, concert halls, cinemas & stadiums. Surgical masks are mandatory in open spaces and all the other shops. You can lift 'em in pubs and restaurants once you're sitted at your own table.
    3) Quiet italian neighborhoods can still be considered noisy by american standards 🤣 Good luck with that

    • @SheaJordan
      @SheaJordan  2 роки тому +2

      Thank you for these tips! I don’t plan on getting a car in Italy, I don’t want to worry about that. And as far as COVID, I have all 3 shots and actually what you described sounds exactly like what we do in LA (everywhere requires masks) so it won’t be any different. I actually prefer to wear masks and be safe, so that’s fine! And yeah I expect that cities will be noisy, I live in a city so I understand they won’t always be quiet but I didn’t know if some parts of Bologna were more residential and peaceful. Thanks for writing this all out!

    • @MetalMike87
      @MetalMike87 2 роки тому

      @@SheaJordan Glad to hear that in LA it's the same as here in Italy. Talking with my colleagues in Georgia, that didn't seem to be the case
      More than us italian being loud (we are indeed) the problem, so to say, is that in the cities many building are pretty damn old. That means thin walls, equals lot of noise.
      For sure stay away from San Donato-San Vitale districts which are for undergraduates. I can't help you more since I live in MIlan 😅
      AH. Last tip: I think you might need a translation to use your driving license. But I'm not 100% sure about it.

    • @SheaJordan
      @SheaJordan  2 роки тому

      @@MetalMike87 Thank you! Yes, different states within the US have very different rules when it comes to COVID. I went back to Arizona for the holidays and basically no one wore masks anywhere, which was a huge shock for me coming from California. Thanks for the tip and I will be sure to stay away from those districts - that was the exact kind of tip I was looking for!

    In Italy you can get contact lenses without any prescription, just go to a pharmacy or optician shop.....

      @@SheaJordan Sorry for bothering you again Shea but i got another question? In another video you said you have italian ancestry from your mother side and you also said that you "don't look like an italian" Is it because your are white and blonde? I know that in the Us many people believe that italians are darker than white americans. Do you think is it true? I'm italian and i think that at least in the north ,italians are as white as the "average" white americans.
      I love watching your videos are for me you are a huge inspirations because you managed to achieve two of my biggest dream: Mastering another language and working from home. Hopefully one day i can do it the same.
      Continua così

    Just tip for you about tech and laptops- in USA they are so cheap and almost for free, in EU they are much more expensive so better buy one there before you come here

      Well I don’t know if $1000 is cheap, at least for the laptop I need to get for all my editing BUT if you say it’s more expensive in the EU than I’ll still buy mine in the US anyway before I leave. Thank you!

    How is your boyfriend joining you? Is he also enrolling into the university??

      He’s still trying to find his own study program to get a visa. Otherwise US citizens are able to stay up to 90 days in Italy without a visa 👍🏼

      Hahaha I actually don’t plan on coming back very soon. I’m hoping to either extend my stay in Italy or travel around for a while after because yes I’m pretty much getting rid of everything here and leaving the US behind

      I’ve been waiting for 2 years to go to Italy, and I kept delaying my trip hoping COVID would be over. COVID probably won’t be disappearing anytime soon unfortunately :/ I have the 3 vaccines and always wear masks wherever I go (inside and outside). I’m doing everything I can to be safe and will continue to be safe even while in Italy! 👍🏼

      Glad you found somewhere you enjoy living. I personally am so much happier living in Italy.
